Great reaction, JM; thank you for responding to the request and caring so much about the music and your fans. Your intelligent, witty, and heartfelt commentary always makes me smile. I'm telling all my old Vet brothers down at the Pub about your channel and to give it a look, like, and subscribe.
The beautiful thing about live performances like this... Every note must be heard in the players mind, felt in their soul, before their fingers will ever be able to play those notes with the same feeling/passion/expression. It always amazes me how us Humans get together to create such incredible sounds.
I grew up in Tucson Ariz. Cowboys were everywhere back then. I still own 10 pairs of western Boots and 12 western Hats... As Willie Nelson said.... "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys, They Still Are It Seems".
Great songwriting. Great performance. As teens, we would drive around with a Marshall Tucker Band tape playing and us singing along. Long Hard Ride is like an 18-minute-long instrumental. You could drive fast to that. Altogether great music in the 1970s.
Doug, the vocalist is a helluva singer. Always felt like he was underated. He has a great range and his tone is really nice. And I've always loved Toy's guitar playing. He plays some really distinctive sounding licks. You would enjoy their songs Bob Away My Blues and 24 Hours at a Time. They have several albums that are flawless from start to finish. For some cool New Orleans flavored music you need to react to The Meters. Check out their song Fire On the Bayou.
You heard him do "Now That The Magic Is Gone" live... This is how Joe became the Legend he is today... Joe Cocker The Letter in live 1970 MAD DOGS & ENGLISHMEN
"Heard It In A Love Song" I ain't never been with a woman long enough For my boots to get old We've been together so long now They both need resoled If I ever settle down You'd be my kind And it's a good time for me To head on down the line Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Can't be wrong I'm the kind of man who likes to get away Like to start dreaming about tomorrow, today Never said that I love you, even though it's so Where's that duffle bag of mine, it's time to go Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Can't be wrong I'm gonna be leaving at the break of dawn Wish you could come But I don't need no woman tagging along Always something greener on the other side of that hill I was born a wrangler and a rounder And I guess I always will Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Can't be wrong
RIP: Toy Caldwell 🔥💔🎸U R Missed This was such a great reaction to such a bluesy tune. I love this band they're a great band that has done their state proud. They are from Spartanburg, South Carolina, this is beautiful stuff, bro. The flute wasn't an instrument that was used to often, and yet they were used more commonly in the rock bands from the 1960's and 70's. Bands such as Moody Blues and Jethro Tull are two more bands that come to mind. Here's another artist that you might like to check out. I'm sure you'll know the name Elvis Presly. But other than knowing his name I imagine you've probably never heard any of his music. So, I thought Suggest a live performance, if interested. I like that you don't feel the need to interrupt to much or at all to get your reaction out. It is much appreciated and a new sub for me. That's the way to do reactions bro.
It’s a funny thing, I’ve heard these songs from this era for decades & can sing along word for word, but if you asked me to identify any of the artists I couldn’t do it. Watching these reaction videos is often the 1st time I’ve seen any of these guys, lol. And I’m lucky if I know the name of the band, much less any of the players! I just never paid attn to the radio DJs when they announced the songs. Doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the music, I just never delved into the people who made it. 🤷♀️😄
Hey My Friend... If you/family ever want to visit Up-State N.Y..... you have an Open Invitation to come take a seat at my Favorite Seat in my House.... You know the one. You get here and I take care of everything else needed. Have Another Classic Day.
'Southern Rock' is misleading because one of the great things about it is that it embraces so many music genres such as rockabilly, rock, blues, country, jazz, R&B, folk, gospel, bluegrass, etc.. The theme of this song is common in Southern Rock...it's echoed in the Allman Brothers Band's song, "Ramblin' Man" but the treatment is quite different. You can see the roots of this in Hank Williams country Cajun-flavoured song, "Jambalaya" crossing over in Fats Domino's French-Creole R&B. I think that Jambalaya is a fitting description of the tasty mix that makes up Southern Rock...
So YT blocks studio versions? Those are usually the best cuts, too. The flute and keyboard solos are my favorite part of the studio cut; I feel like the song loses a lot without the Classic Country/Rock piano sound. I still hope you find a way to get 'Fire On The Mountain' posted.
My favorite Marshall Tucker Band song by far (and I don't care a lot for country music in general). You need to read the lyrics to this one. You feel nostalgia for your history with your grandma, and when you read the lyrics you'll have two things to make it special. Love your reactions always. Thank you.
Great reaction JM, thanks! As long as we're in this genre, you should check out "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" by the Charlie Daniels Band! I think you'd get a big kick out of it. The entire performance is amazing (link below)! ✌💙✌ The Devil Went Down To Georgia (live) - th-cam.com/video/wBjPAqmnvGA/w-d-xo.html

JM is simply The Best at what he is doing. In 4 years I've never seen any better.
A huge hit played often on FM radio stations in NYC during the late 1970’s!’s
This is my favorite song by the Marshall Tucker Band.
Mine too by far!
My fav from these fellas.... "This Ol' Cowboy"

One of my favorite dongs of all time. Saw them with the Outlaws in Pitts at 3 Rivers stadium in 1984. Absolute Legends.
Love me some Toy Caldwell ❤
Love the new background sir!
Know every word to every one of their songs.
This band was so much fun live. . . really enjoyed the reaction. Thanks for the great memories! :)

I got to see them in 2018 before the world stopped. They KILLED.
Needless to say, they're a lot older now (aren't we all?)

Love the reactions brother. Really iteresting comment about zydeco connections. Yes, Marshall Tucker is just pure somehow. much love brother
You also reacted to one of their first hit songs from the early 70s, "Can't You See" what that woman, she been doin to me...

"Heard It In A Love Song"
I ain't never been with a woman long enough
For my boots to get old
We've been together so long now
They both need resoled
If I ever settle down
You'd be my kind
And it's a good time for me
To head on down the line
Heard it in a love song
Heard it in a love song
Heard it in a love song
Can't be wrong
I'm the kind of man who likes to get away
Like to start dreaming about tomorrow, today
Never said that I love you, even though it's so
Where's that duffle bag of mine, it's time to go
Heard it in a love song
Heard it in a love song
Heard it in a love song
Can't be wrong
I'm gonna be leaving at the break of dawn
Wish you could come
But I don't need no woman tagging along
Always something greener on the other side of that hill
I was born a wrangler and a rounder
And I guess I always will
Heard it in a love song
Heard it in a love song
Heard it in a love song
Can't be wrong

acadian?
BTW... some of your videos are reversed. Flipped over making it appear they are left handed guitarist. No real harm, just sayin'
The album is much better.
