As a current faculty member of the voice faculty at FSU, I can say that this group is reflective of what these girls do BY THEMSELVES. They have no faculty conductor, but do it ALL on their own. This is not a class for credit; many of these young women are taking applied voice lessons, and some are music majors. All are held to a very high standard at this fabulous music school. But what you see is the result of THEIR dedication, not someone leading them, or guiding them, or whipping them to do it. That's what impresses me. Not many young Americans are that driven, that passionate any more. Thanks for letting me rant! And I'll claim as my own students the one in the middle standing up and the one just right of her. Great job, ladies!
Sherri - I am the CEO of The Vocal Company and on behalf of my company, I thank you. All of the groups at FSU surprise us on a regular basis. Please send our sincere thank you and congratulations to your entire department.
"Not many young Americans are that driven, that passionate any more." And even fewer these days. This motivation is hard enough to find in one individual. The fact that they all pulled together to do it as a group is even more special.
To all the haters: that lead singer is my older sister. I am so proud of everything shes ever done. She doesnt think shes all that or anything, shes getting into the music. For someone as passionate about music as she is, along with the rest of the AcaBelles, singing is like theatre. Like playing the part of the song. Think what you want. But I am so incredibly proud of her and the rest of the AcaBelles. Ive been listening to her sing for as long as I can possibly remember, going to her high school chorus concerts and just watching from around the corner to her practicing. Shes worked for this and its still not what shes all about. I love you Sissy, you're great and Im proud to be your little sister
Alex, tell your sister there are many of us who find her to have incredible talent. Love how these ladies put this together!! Watched it multiple times in a row!
A friend sent the link to this song and as I was listening and watching your sister sing, I said to myself "wow, besides having a beautiful voice, she has an awesome stage presence. She is star material." For this reason, I was a little surprised at the few negative comments. Being in the public eye is not easy. ;)
I still watch this 8 years later and it gives me GOOSE BUMPS! These girls are amazing singers!! Love this so much! The harmonies are absolutely incredible!!
Jim Wat the bass assist is an octave higher. At 1:20 you can here it. The one at the front is hitting those lows. The assist can't. She struggles at the octave above
People don't understand just how hard it is to get this many people in harmony at once..especially in a Capella. There are a few hiccups along the way here but overall this is a VERY beautiful version. Very well done ladies.
Except for certain parts of the songs she appears to be doing the beat by herself. Which is way cool! The beat is so crisp and clean she must be "miked" well!
This is absolutely beautiful. Better than the original version. The leader has a gorgeous voice, and I have some serious eyebrow envy. I agree, the beat boxer killed it. She is amazing.
It's so great that a lot of you have critiques on their performance. I know when they put this up, they were thinking "Man, I hope we get some awesome feedback from random anonymous people on the internet. They know everything."
awsome! As a drummer (both in and out of the highschool band) I appreciate the single girl keeping the beat. I'm always amazed at how they stay on beat and never loose breath.
I just saw Moulin Rouge, the Broadway tour, and was reminded of how much I loved this version of the song Royals when I first found it 9 years ago. I heard this version first (before even knowing who Lorde is) and this is still my favorite. Genuine, sincere and on key. Fantastic! thank you... and thank the rouge for reminding me~
Boy, do I miss those days! I'd seriously be in Acappela choir again as an adult and not get paid penny for it! That's just how good it feels to be a part of this, personally. Beautiful voices ladies!
The facial expressions for the lead singer is everything every man loves about every woman. They're something we'll never be able to capture and it's impossible to create on demand, so we cherish it every time they come around.
Try change the speed to 1.5x, sounded quite awesome. Even if the words sometimes might merge together, it gave the track a little more up-tempo dance rhythm :)
Where you press play on the right side of the video. You click on the second icon that looks like a gear named settings. Then you select speed, 1.5 and enjoy the video again but with the speed change.

Great talent..intriguingly 'simple' video and yet anyone that has ever tried to produce a video understands how difficult it is to make something so compelling. Kudos ladies..each and every one of you and all that participated in the planning and making of this video. Please consider selling a recording!!!
Not only is the singing wonderful - emotional, evocative, and technically brilliant - but whoever their musical 'stylist' is, is a master of the art, to have teased apart the song and set it to so many more voices and parts than the original!
In general, I'm finding that I like covers of this song more than the original. This is a great arrangement, well performed. Not sure why the words "us" and "buzz" come out like "ice" and "buys" in the chorus, but maybe that's just a Floridian affectation. :D Keep up the great work, ladies...
I love this video! I was thinking about this very video just yesterday because it’s been a few years since I first watched it. Great job! I sang in an A Capella choir in high school. It was and remains one of the best experiences in music in my life and I am now almost 65 years old. These women are amazing. What people don’t realize is that it’s pretty hard to sign in multiple-part harmonies with no instrumental back up. Add to that the voiced percussion, and it’s even more difficult. Hard to believe this has been on TH-cam for 10 years. I hope all of the women are happy and healthy.
Personally, I think this is a noteworthy performance. I have no clue who that lead is in this performance she has a superior voice. This is what I want to hear when I listen to female vocal group. Bravo.
This morning in Good Morning America they showed a few seconds of this this video. I'm not kidding, but since then I've watched this video no less than 20 times. Had a chance to listen to Lorde's version... sorry, maybe I'm biased but I take this one by far. Good job!
Hope you ladies give us some more of your melodious blend of voices which is astonishing without any instrument accompaniment save for the rhythmic beat from time to time

The best cover of "Royals" I've heared so far. You have an own way of performing and that's what makes it quite interesting listening to you. Thumbs up!
The girl doing bass needs more recognition I don't think people realize how hard that is as a female.
Yeah, she kicks ass! Damn :)
there 2 girls...not just one xD
Cordelia Townsend righttttt
Double bass. And for reaching a C3, that's deep for most women, and both drop it like it's hot. Hahahaha

FABULOUS! And what I love most is the style of the video....everyone dressed down, and let the voices be the stars. Looking forward to an album!
The best cover of "Royals" I've heared so far. You have an own way of performing and that's what makes it quite interesting listening to you. Thumbs up!
