    It seems like I’ve been getting more and more questions lately about passing half guard from all levels of experience. These are the two half guard passes that get me out of more difficult half guards than any others. And if you’re still dealing with quarter guard in the process, I show a good way to clear it and a slick back take option as well.

    Eli, maybe you could some videos where you do 3 moves of the day and you working through them in an active roll. A lot of these moves work great in static but hard to hit in active rolls.

    Eli. You are once again the master of jj. They taught us how you get out of top pressure but I kept getting over taken. I will try this especially the roll one by sitting up

      One last question. For the ones you presented, which one has the highest probability of hitting?

    Man the one where you place your head to the opposite side... Such a small detail that makes a world of a difference. I cannot wait to try that. I always stick my head under their chin . But I do not like doing it to my students of course. But anyone else is open again hahaha. But I like this one a lot better because it allows you to keep your chest lower and flatter on top of their chest since you are extending your body a little more with your head reaching to the floor. If you put your head under their chin you are limiting where you can reach to. This causes you to leave room between your chest and their chest. This gives them room to move your version keeps them flattened out and vice-versa. I know it is an old video but I obviously missed it back then. Or I might have seen it andi don't remember.

    was rolling bjj for a year until one purple belt told me an a-ha! moment
    everything in bjj starts with the armpit underhook
    if you can get underhooks into opponetns armpits, you can do like 80% of escape or submission moves, w/o that underhook, its much harder to have any control
    1. always better to have your holds on the inside than outside
    2. fight to get inside underhooks before attempting a move

    JESUS crafted curriculum and technique I do Judo and half guard passes are extremely important because the guys can use them to break the action on groundwork to escape pins and submissions thank you for a fundamentally sound and simple pass you are very wise in your work may GOD bless you ✝️

    Tried these and got swept haha 😂 the minute I tried the foot on knee thing you mentioned to kick my leg out it was perfect time for them to tighten up and just roll over... given I was like 240lbs and he is 300lbs+ and stronger

    Really useful the second technique 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌

  • @brianklauk88
    @brianklauk88 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    For the second pass, the waterfall pass, we usually place the elbow on the ground on the opposite side of and snug to the head before starting the leg walkup. Is there a particular advantage to using a cross-face and deep lat grab instead?

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It just depends on the energy of the bottom person. I use both and find I usually use this one more based on whether they are trying to turn in, up or replace guard or play deep.

    • @willbibbee338
      @willbibbee338 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think your more likely to find movies where you cringe because a single jujitsu technique would've saved someones life. Like some basic mount escapes. My dad and I will just look at one another and shake our heads when a movie character could just trap and roll to escape mount.

      The series “The 100” gets me every time. These guys are experts with swords, spears, daggers, and firearms, but if you put any kind of choke, even the basic two handed strangle, they are done for.

    Eli. As always. Thanks so much. I can’t wait to try this in practice. On a side note. What in your opinion are other good submissions to aim for as a white belt. I’m getting good at getting to Kimura and half way decent to getting to umiplata. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it doesn’t matter so much the submission as just getting good at recognizing opportunities and not being too obvious when going for them. I think attacking the neck is important too at all levels.

    • @mrrob5851
      @mrrob5851 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Knight Jiu-Jitsu recognizing the opportunities is important I agree. That’s why I asked about submissions to learn. I recognize when I can get Kimura and umiplata very well. And the neck. I’m always setting up lapel chokes for that whether it be my lapel or theirs. I live to use lapel guard. But it won’t be taught because I was told it’s advanced. But I’m not told to not use it. But your advice is always appreciated. I’ll study more ways to attack the neck. Thank you sir for taking time out of your day to answer me.

    Is this an advanced half guard pass when taking back

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on how you define “advanced.” The principles are simple, but the difficulty of execution is contingent on the degree of training. It’s also tricky, so it is inherently difficult for someone to defend without a good knowledge and awareness of the move.

    • @stuubby266
      @stuubby266 5 ปีที่แล้ว
