    these robots are bigger than 15 x 15 cm and they even have not lego parts!

      The size limit for this competition is 12"x12", or ~30cmx30cm. I can personally guarantee that every competitor was running a clean operation, with pure, unadulterated LEGO.

      The majority of these robots are built in a workshop the day before the contest by convention attendees. We use a very basic program so that minimal adaption is needed for varied robot designs.

      I understand that you had only little time to build the bots (and to modify a basic program) - but if you attend to such a competition you should be prepared, shouldn't you? ;-)

      Of course. Those that bring their own pre-built robots are prepared, and typically have much more advanced programming. Those that attend the sumo workshop are likely to have little to no experience with Mindstorms/Technic, let alone programming, and understand what they're getting in to and how well they're likely to perform against those with more experience.
