It saddens me that our great British institution the pub, is being driven out of business. Nothing like having a few beers, a meal and most of all face to face communication, another g8 review DJ 👍👍
Evening Darren, maybe it's me. I have never believed that you can find proper fish'n'chips in pubs or cafes or restaurants. It's got to be a chippy, old-fashioned chip shop. However, you have changed my mind. That really looked the business 😊😊💕I used to drink in the Black Friar about 30yrs ago when I was working in Fleet Street,never ate there not so much as a sandwich. But think I'll treat wife and son tomorrow ❤️😋😍❤️£20 is pretty good, bit of a bargain. Make sure you get a good home for Daisy, she served you well. Allan&Family

The Black Friar Public House was my usual workplace haunt late 1990s to late 2000s. Used to work across the place called PUDDLE DOCK as part of a very large accountancy firm. It is so gentrified out but was spit and sawdust decades ago. Drinks were cheap then and our work colleagues had so many Friday early evening pre-weekend drinks. There was a very different work culture then. Please also visit Doggett's Coat and Badge whilst in Black friars.

Best of British fish and chips, east coast deep sea fish with Linconshire potato's chipped, the staple of the nation. ❤ No restriction during rationing during the War.

I used to work near the BF and spent many evenings in that fine boozer. I cant get excited about fish n chips - it is what it is, but i do love reviews of historic London pubs so thanks a mill DJ.

Turn left out of the Blackfriar and walk towards Cannon St / Bank, take the second left and try the Cockpit pub. Good boozer! Same wedge type building.

What a coincidence! I was reading about the Black Friar pub earlier today, Interesting read, apparently it was poet laureate Sir John Betchamin who lead the campaign to save the pub in the '60s .

I just wish that restaurants and pubs would cook fresh cooked chips instead of frozen. I live in Canada and its rare to find a place that does. It makes all the difference as I rarely eat fries/chips but when I have them, I enjoy the meal so much more

Cor your gonna miss that bit of haddock ,, my misses does make me a cracking tillapia fillet battered and chips which imo is just as delicious ,, and it is fresh cause we bring it live in a carrier back from the market

Mate you need to get to Anstruther or Mallaig for great fish and chips, ive tried all these and not a patch on Whitby and Whitby is not a patch on aforementioned

Darren, you obviously love London and have a deep affection for its history and many amazing places. You say you are going to really miss London so surely you are just making things worse for yourself by going to all your favourite locations. Wouldn’t it be less emotional and much easier to leave for Thailand if you just forgot about London and headed off to Thailand as soon as possible? I’m sure you’ve made your mind up to go but aren’t these farewell visits making it harder and more sad for you to leave?
As someone speaking from 17 years experience with Thailand , having lived there 6 months in a row and built a small villa there and been married to a thai and lived in the uk with her the last 16 years , I can confidently say Darren is at the stars in their eyes stage ,, he’s old and wise enough he will get through but nothing anyone says will change his mind or even think any other way . One month is very little time for the natural probs to kick in , like they will do ,, the unrelentless heat , he’s got March April May coming up , the 96% humidity where you shower put clean clothes on come outdoors again and rinse and repeat , the endless supply of mozzies and the daily slaughter 65 odd I believe now on the roads , the cravings you get for your western food tastes etc ,, it’s funny but after a while you kinda , well I did anyway end up wanting the things you originally wanted to get away from 😂
Your in for a shock when you go to Thailand if you go to the robin hood in pattaya you will be paying less than £10 the chips are fried in beef dripping

Lovely old pub there. Fish and Chips looked magnificent, was eating it along with you even though I have just had a curry. Sad not to see you on the bikes, but hopefully you will get a Thailand version of Daisy Duke so we can enjoy the rides once more.

I no this is about london. But please do not pay 1000 pound for a visa i no it is your money but first visa bank account should be about 25000 thb. My friends and i use an agent in Jomrien i will be more than happy to take you there when you come over

Live your vids and super jealous your retiring in Thailand and not me ! I’m heading there at 55 also.
