  • written on the heel: a southern idiom meaning "meant to be"
Written On The Heel is a documentary exploring what it means to be a person under the trans umbrella living in the southern region of the U.S.
This is my first attempt at a documentary, originally filmed for my Fundamentals of Digital Filmmaking course in the spring semester of 2020 just before our campus closed due to the rona.

Great video! I cannot imagine Elaine’s pain of losing her children and grandchildren. For me I cannot risk that, and prefer to deny myself and what I want so as not to take that risk. I will be Lyra inside, and never let my children go. My prayers are with you Elaine and hope they will “see” you one day.

Elaine is such a wonderful brave and shining Lady; she impressed me a lot, even if i am ftm and born in the 70ies in Hamburg. But this Woman is really something.- Telling her story with a smile and so warmhearted. WoW! May her children and grandchildren realize after all, what kind of special great & lovely beeing their Mom and Granny really is. I would be so pleased and proud to have her in my family! Hugs from Germany.

Food for thought for Christians: Jesus told us to love others as He has loved us. That’s first and foremost. Jesus never called anyone an abomination. Read the red words of Christ. We aren’t the judge, we are only called to love. Be like Christ and love.

I'm a Christian and am also a trans woman, When I first came out I was told God made us male and female, what is between our legs proves it.Look at that verse it says God made us male and female, but it doesn't say how God sees us as male and female. I was puzzled so the best thing to do is ask God how He sees us. He took me to Samuel, God says this Man judges the out side but He sees the heart, in our heart soul, and mind is where we are male and female. Those people who point to what is between our legs have a problem, intersex, they have vaginas and testes, penises and ovaries, a vagina and a penis, or nothing at all. That leaves them with a problem. All of us who are made different or make others uncomfortable God made us this way for a reason, so people can learn to love like God loves.

My lifestyle is outside the “norm” ( sexually, my physical appearance and religion) …My family is from the south. I’ve lived all over the USA. In my experience living in rural areas is the issue. Living in New Orleans, Atlanta, Charlotte and Nashville felt just as safe and accepting as my times living in NYC and SF.

I'm so used to hearing stories about trans people from the north or more accepting parts of the world. I hear about how accepting their families were and I resent it so much, as much as I hate to admit it, and as much as I don't want to feel that way because I want to be happy for them (and I am, but it's simultaneously jealousy and being happy for them). As a transmasc guy, my family would disown me in a heartbeat and will someday most likely if I decide to medically transition, and I will likely have to leave my state (I live in Florida) to ever find true acceptance for who I am.
It's so unfair. It's the most lonely feeling in the world knowing this is the reality. That I'm going to lose everything for something that wasn't my fault and be forced to start from scratch. It's so intimidating that I consider giving up sometimes. But hopefully it won't ever come to that.
I envy people who have an accepting environment. At least I'm not the only one.

So true. My nephews and niece know I am gay and seem fine with it but in that household they never say anything about LGBTQ+ unless it's a gross gay joke. Sadly, I suspect that my oldest nephew is gay. I think his overweight and living at home at his age has uncovered an accidental new gay niche in the South. His mother and everyone else knows but does not ask. They realize he has no other choice and so they think they leave him safe in his silence. So in the same family members I see hatred and love for their son and brother. And I live next door and have no answer that fits this place and time yet. Thank you for more Southern perspectives

Hebrew sex designations with terse defintions:
    Zachar, male.
    Nekevah, female.
Androgynos, having both male and female characteristics.
    Tumtum, lacking sexual characteristics.
Aylonit hamah, identified female at birth but later naturally developing male characteristics.
Aylonit adam, identified female at birth but later developing male characteristics through human intervention.
Saris hamah, identified male at birth but later naturally developing female characteristics.

Sex Difference in Christian Theology: Male, Female, and Intersex in the Image of God
    by Megan K. DeFranza
This book is a wonderful, merciful, rigorous theological discussion.
Please forgive me if this story is considered inappropriate within this context? Whether anyone considers themselves christian or not, may I please include some extra nuance to your conversation? I have no intention of attempting any kind of evangelization in my contribution, I would however like to supply some extra dimensión to the discourse. To advance some concepts I would like to present some quotes.
    First:
Isa 56:4-5 KJV 4 For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; 5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
    Second:
Mat 19:11-12 KJV 11 But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. 12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
    Third:
Act 8:26-40 KJV (The baptism of the eunuch which I consider too long to be quoted here.)
I would love to note first that the term eunuch in these quotes seems to be defined by the Lord Jesus himself to include intersex individuals (eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb). Unwilling (some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men) and willing (eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs) individuals appear similarly defined.
May I also note the quote (unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters). I am aware that original Hebrew literally is translated "a hand and a name" greater than of sons and of daughters. I am, however, quite intrigued by the implications that eunuchs are given recognition separate from sons and from daughters.
I consider myself to be a eunuch (trans). I am not exactly a son and not exactly a daughter. I have a woefully masculine face and physique but I am definitely not a son (AMAB MTF post SRS (GCS)). Therefore I do not fit in sons' spaces or daughters' spaces.
I have immersed myself in the philosophical, psychological, political and theological literature and media for a significant portion of seven decades and conclude that I am physically, politically, perceptually and theologically non-binary. Psychologically, I have identified as female since the age of two or three but diligent discipline discouraged any hint or discussion of my feminine identity or behavior. My ideal puberty would have included hormone blockers until a legally acceptable age to begin HRT and GCS (SRS) and then as nearly normal womanhood as attainable.
In actuality, the diligent discipline has induced my voluntary celibacy and perception that I have been insidiously gaslighted and have a subtle incidence of complex traumatic stress disorder by the dismissing, ignoring, denying and suppressing of my gender identity.
I hope my comments and the quotes are discovered to be beneficial. I pray that nothing is found to be triggering because my intent was to be somehow loving, compassionate and empathetic to each and everyone. If you have deigned to read this entire comment, thank you much!

@Alfonso 2Ti 3:16-17 KJV 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Rom 2:1 KJV Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
Rom 2:4 KJV Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
Rom 2:11 KJV For there is no respect of persons with God.
Phi 2:12 KJV Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
1Jn 1:9 KJV If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

@Alfonso Our Father in heaven created us and our Lord Jesus has fulfilled the law for us and made himself the perfect sacrifice for us and no one else has earned the right to judge. Please don't presume to know my lifestyle. My lifestyle is purely platonic and II depend moment by moment upon His mercy salvation and cleansing and love. For me there is no other hope.

1Jn 1:7-10 KJV 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

It made sad to hear these individuals refer so many times to Christians in such a negative way. I’m a Christian, and I know that Christ opened his arms to all! We are taught to love unconditionally. Jesus practiced inclusivity not exclusion. My Bible says that we are neither male nor female, and neither Jews nor Greeks, but we are all one in the love of Jesus. It also says that if we say that we love God, but hate our fellow man, that we are lier and the truth is not in us! Anyway, just to let you know that I live in NC and I know lots of people who support you!
