    I've been fishing Pennsylvania for many years. Like 50. I use a double surgeon knot on my tippet materials. And only a sixth turn improved clinch. They don't fail me. You're so pretty bomb-proof

    John, it’s good to see you at home and out in your element. You have a knack for explaining and describing the elements of hunting and fishing. I recall back in the mid eighties, while under your expertise, I learned to hone the art of reading and running technical whitewater; based in large, on your natural technical skills and ability to communicate. You should put together some more instructional videos on the craft of fly fishing. Enjoyed!

    Just would like to comment that you might be sitting down in this video but you haven't been sitting on your duff the last 30 years. You don't need a third hand, either, when you got a mouth as ambidextrous as yours. Great video, but one has to watch it several times to get the drift of sorts. It's the lengths that are very specific. You've got it down, so It's very worth while information that you are sending. I have never used an indicator, nor have I ever fished nymphs very much. I really like surface action, but realize I'm missing out on a lot, so this video gives me some very good information to utilize. Thanks.

    Brand new to fly fishing, this was a fantastic tutorial. I had no idea THATS how you have multiple fly's going at once. Very cool. Does this work with a nymph and a streamer?
    Or maybe an emerger with a nymph behind it?

    This is a great video. I'm relatively new to fly fishing and sometimes it hard to decide how to rig a line from top to bottom. Some of the reviewers here are pretty unpleasant people. Many ways to skin a cat and most of them aren't "wrong" because someone else says there's another way of doing things. Just subscribed to Blackfoot River Outfitters and look forward to more great videos. One question: what fly line were you using? Thanks!

  • @Blain27
    @Blain27 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's a good idea to use one otherwise you won't really know when the nymph is being inhaled by the trout. Artificial flies are quickly rejected by Trout. Nymphing is a fishing by sight approach since you can't feel it in the rod. Without the indicator you'd have to pay attention to the end of the fly line.
    However, once your skills have been developed you can fish without the indicator. But even very good fly fisherman use an indicator just because it makes you so much more efficient.

  • @whizkid777
    @whizkid777 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @blackfootriveroutfitters
      @blackfootriveroutfitters  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can certainly just tie a dry fly to the end of a leader and go fishing. Don't get discouraged. This particular video is describing a technique that takes more set up time than the single dry fly method.

    What's the advantage to using a fly rod when fishing weighted baits like nymphs? It seems like it would be more effective to use an ultralight spinning setup. I fish small, tight streams in the southern appalachians and it's hard enough to cast dry flies with my fly rod.

    • @ThatSB
      @ThatSB 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No way youre going to cast a nymph anywhere near as far with a spinner set up. Nor will you be able to watch or mend the line like you could with fly line

    Not as practical as a 9' tapered leader ending in 4x, especially in smaller streams. I add about 2' of 5 or 6x depending on conditions and nymph being used. Yarn works well as an easily adjustable indicator.

    Well the first place you'll want to begin is by returning to the fourth grade. Ask your teacher to help you learn to speak English; e.g. ask the teacher what punctuation is, and how to spell basic words such as "leader" and "though". Once you speak and read English, you can do a google search and read some articles to answer all the questions you just tried to ask.
