- Video by Adam | On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, around 3 a.m., a fatal accident occurred on Manhattan's FDR Drive near the 71st Street exit. A white Tesla, reportedly traveling at high speed northbound, struck a guardrail and burst into flames. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle upon impact. The female driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 26-year-old male passenger was transported to New York Presbyterian Hospital - Cornell Burn Unit in stable condition. The incident led to significant traffic disruptions, with the FDR Drive closed for several hours as emergency crews worked to extinguish the fire and clear the scene. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
I'm a firefighter in Alabama and we once responded to a Tesla car fire on the interstate that required over 30,000 gallons of water just to extinguish it due to the lithium batteries that were almost inextinguishable. I've never had to battle heat like that before and I hope I never do again. We ended up having to bury the vehicle until they were able to come back and remove it again due to the high likelihood of it reigniting. Real talk.
Sounds like incompetence. 😂
❤Elon Musk cuts corners,
as we know.❤
Electric cars are dangerous and 99% don't understand the dangers of a Lithium Polymer battery fire. I fly racing drones and when one crashes in the wrong way they burst in to flames. Charging them is also a dangerous time especially if you do it with too many amps.
Wow ent that something that sound like a very dangerous vehicle to drive
You don't use water to put out an electrical fire geniuses
I really hate when interviwers ask the stupidest questions. "How do you feel about folks that maybe seriously injured in this crash?' Well what the hell do you think?! What would you be feeling if you saw a car going 120mph and heard a huge boom with fire spurting all over the place with individuals not opening their eyes or severely injured?? Clown!
Yes. Some questions should not be asked. I wish to know if this kind of interviewers went to college or any kind of institute? They sound dumb when asking this stupid things.
@ Nah their just a rando idiot with a camera. No real self-respecting and respectable reporter would ask such absurd and rudely disrespectful things during such a tragic time as this. :(

I thought the same.
Same. Sometimes it's deliberate as, someone crying or distressed on camera sells. It's despicable.
That homeless guy is really well mannered and offered condolences to the family…but I bet people pass him by every day and look down on him because he doesn’t drive a Tesla that he can speed into a wall.

@ should’t you be writing letters to Washington or something?
For cars that don't use gasoline, Teslas sure seem to burn to a crisp when they're in an accident.

It all depends on who the driver is. I go around turns at 110mph in my Tacoma, and don't have a problem.
Not being disrespectful but any car driven at high speed and striking a guard rail has very good chance of causing a fatality
Nope. Plenty of high speed crashes into guard rail footage on the web to prove how wrong your statement is.
@HecNoReply28 He said a good chance, not automatic.
@@NoReply28 it all depends on how the car hits said guard rail this car must have just hit it at the right end to compromise one of them batteries and then you get thermal runaway and that's what you have for an example look at Paul Walker

This is why fully electric cars are dangerous. Once they catch fire, putting that shite out is extreme challenging. Burns hot and looooong!
They catch fire less than 1/10th as often as gasoline fires. Don't think the flames were the problem in any case.
@ Uh yes they were, firstly your statisics are sus and the batteries are highly flammable and the fires they generate are extremely hard to extinguish. Secondly, your comment didn’t make much sense
An absolutely destroys air quality
Sometimes battery fire needs couple days before it is safe and can be moved.

There was a guy who drove his tesla off a mountain to off his entire family and they all survived. He's sitting in jail now.
@ Oh yeah, that's the reason. I guess you're right, because there is no way than another vehicle can crash into a Tesla and cause the fire. Tesla's are immune from any other collision except from people that are unfamiliar with the high torque of the motor. Brilliant reasoning, Sir!
