Unless they are ultra-nationalist Welsh and Scottish people are OK with being called British, it's when they are called English they get upset.

no, he called himself Doctor Who instead of The Doctor because that is the characters original name. in Classic Who he is Doctor who, but by Reboot Who it became The Doctor. Theres even a few scenes in Reboot Who referencing The Doctor as Doctor Who

So, David Tennant was the 10th Doctor and eventually 10th regenerated into Matt Smith so david tennant left the show. Then at some point after he done this interview where he said "I'm Doctor who!" The interviewer said "not anymore baby!" This was because David was no longer the doctor however in the most recent episode (THIS IS WHERE THE SPOILERS START) the 13th Doctor regenated into David Tennant so he is infact Doctor who, this explains the caption saying he "played the long game with this arguement."
