Awesome review! I'm planning to purchase one of these. I'm kind of torn. I like the clear vocals of the maxsound (and the fact that it has an aux in) but the bass on the boost is nice too. The fact that the boost can be eqed in the app is definitely a point in it's favor, though. Buoyancy is also a good feature to have if near a deep body of water and the boost also goes louder while remaining relatively balanced. Both have their pros and cons but I'm thinking for a travel speaker maybe the boost slightly edges out the maxsound.
for sure once you get over 65% i think its the boost for me. its much like the motion plus vs the motion boom, once you hear that bass its hard to do without it.

After watching some of your videos I now understand the differences between the SoundCore 3, the SoundCore Boost and the Maxsound Plus. However, which is your final recommendation? And if it depends on the EQ settings, how easy is it for me to copy your settings? Thanks. I've been loving the videos and look forward to seeing the dual SC Boost video.
Someone stole my soundcore select 2,, thinking of getting 2 upgraded maxsound plus, a lot of times I listen at low volumes, I have a motion boom, now that motion boom plus has my attention for a beastly portable, now I sleep with a motion boom behind my head listening to the Forest at Night Wild Jungle sounds circadas video, thats a good one for sleep, youll see a little rainbow and a tiger, best one ! When I take the canoe out on lake superior, I like taking the motion boom with me, that bass resonates well in the old Grumman canoe sitting on the floor, couldnt imagine the motion boom plus with those added tweeters. Your channel is soothing.
I remember when you had the Soundmax Plus for testing and you praised its flatter, more accurate frequency response but here you’ve gone for maybe a little bass boost, that’s fine it’s a matter of personal preference, I could listen to both speakers judging by your listening tests but I think I’ll now go for the Maxsound plus where the clarity and detail with it’s flatter frequency curve, I mix music on my laptop and it’ll still have way more bass response than inbuilt amp and speakers, the lack of an aux input on a speaker that has high Bluetooth latency unfortunately is a big thing for me as I mix with video and sound so yeah that’s what finally relegated the Boost for me.
of course all the speakers have some tradeoffs, no perfect speaker out there. for the music i listen to these days some deeper bass makes it more enjoyable. both speakers are good value 👍👍
Managed to get a good offer on A pair of Maxsound Plus (upgraded Bluetooth 5/USB-C models) for £55 and a pair of Motion Booms off Amazon for £126, still a few available as of today.
Yes the Maxsound speakers popped up in my browser literally seconds after I began checking out the prices online, I was a bit lucky with that - both are customer returns with a one year warranty so hopefully they’ll be ok, I’ll let you know when they arrive, the pair of Motion Booms for £63 each are Amazon Renewed from the official Anker store, I’d just watched your other videos on the Motion Boom so it was an impulse purchase based on your analysis and thoughts plus I read the comments from people who already own both speakers so feel like I already have a handle on how they will sound, I listened to all your videos through a pair of Shure SRH840’s which are studio monitoring headphones with a wide frequency range and a flattish response so hopefully I won’t be too shocked when I hear all the speakers for real.
The two Maxsound Plusses have arrived, yes £27.50 each, well they came boxed and still in the wrappers, both boxes said they were the Bluetooth models and yes they looked the same but in fact one is the USB-C speaker and the other is the Micro USB mode so I little annoying but then you’ve said you can pair v1 and v2 models in stereo and they sound the same ? They are both totally flat so have got them on charge.
Interesting comparison. Anker definitely sounds better at 80% and worse at lower volume levels with your eq settings. But that is adjustable as you mentioned. Both are actually nice although Tribit still has better clarity. But impressive low bass on Anker. As you said, matter of taste.
For the 80% sound test, that means your phone or laptop is at 80%? Or the speaker as well? In the case of the Tribit where there's no app, how would you know what volume the speaker is at?
I've watched many of your awesome reviews and enjoy your style. Ive come back to this video, as this is what made me purchase the soundcore boost. Now, i want something louder and from Anker. What would you recommend for outside garden use, whilst talking to loud friends and family over a bbq? Im confused and ive watched all your videos. The soundcore motion boom looks good, but you stated the newer soundcore motion boom isnt whst it use to be. Your latest videos showed the soundcore boom 2, which you said was in between the original motion boom and the boom plus. Honestly, i want a speaker that is somewhat louder, bass, as i listen to hip hop and blues, rock. Even lofi and atmospheric sort of background music as well. But not too loud that pisses off the whole street, which ive done with my guitar amps 😂. It can be very loud, but also sounds great if i put the volume down, that matches 90-100% of the soundcore boost volume without the drop in clarity or weaker bass. Warm bass is my cup of tea. Budget £130 (there's a few sales on Amazon). £60 for original motion boom but you sqid buying new may not be your awesome version, the newer boom 2 is £100 right now. Im so confused, but £130 is what im willing to pay. Please help Alan, i trust you and not Reddit that jump on the bandwagon and agree with everything the first person says. You're a true eccentric gentleman, like myself! Stay safe 👍🏼
@@alanrossreviewsRight, I looked at the uboom x and it's made with that reviewer who I won't name, in mind. I know you appreciate him, yet I give a nudge to you more. He's more hifi neutral, which is a great thing, if the bass is not left behind. The lack of personal tweaking, yet has options for an indoor and outdoor mode, is intriguing as long as it's not that fiddly. I can spare a few secs. I definitely will see your video on it. The early bird price is on the 8th release I believe. Filled the form. Anyway, what would be the soundcore version of that newly releasing speaker? I like Anker as a company, as they work. Not a fanboy, but I've bought their headphones, battery banks and of course the boost, which is an incredible little but punchy speaker 😏. Thank you for your help Alan 😊❤️
@@alanrossreviewsah right. The boom 2 plus looks okay, I'll wait when it's on offer though as £200 is too much, 5x the price of 1 boost. Max £130 for me. Rather pay ~£100 for a boom 2 and play it at 80-90% volume, even for outside use with noisy people. Do you think that's a good idea? From your review, you didn't seem to enjoy boom 2 plus as much even from the firmware update being a little better, but I'm sure the EQ tweaking to my ears, can be plenty for a northern musical lad like me. Do you think I should wait until the boom 2 plus goes on sale for ~£130 hopefully, or go for the ~£100 for the boom 2? . I've decided that the faffing around with the uboom x has put me off (I heard the firmware updates from the pc for uboom x which is not convenient if you ask me). Thank you Alan and stay safe ☺️
I cannot recommend the Tribit Maxsound Plus enough!!!!! I did all the research on affordable speakers and I went for the Tribit. It has exceeded my expectations in every way! I love it so much! The Bass is amazing, the sound is full, the battery lasts forever and it's so durable. Vocals sound perfect. It is flawless and I adore it! Get yourself a Tribit Maxsound Plus.
What about stormbox and stormbox pro. What use case scenario would you suggest them for? I want a speaker mostly for indoor use. Would maxsound be a better choice? Price difference between maxsound and stormbox is around 12 USD in my country.
Hello Allan. I truly love my Anker. Like you. I love the warmer sound. And deeper bass. Could you tell me what settings you recommend for 60 to 80 percent listening level? Ice noticed different EQ settings on different videos. Thanks
Max sound plus now has the upgraded eversion with type c and bt 5.0 which I just got so satisfied with it connects and play no need for custom EQ or Appts to tweak it plus has an aux in too..can be used for computer and tv monitor 😅👍👌
Hey Allan. Hope you are well. I love your videos. Love the comical way of getting to the point. I just bought a Soundcore Boost. Love the sound. I sometiimes notice a bit of distortion in the bass at half volume or sometimes higher volumes. It is song dependent. Can you tell me the EQ settings for lower volume listening and higher volume listening? i have used the videos for the settings is this ok? Thanks again
just lower the bass sliders at lower volume. yes when i first got mine it made some weird noises on certain tracks, couldnt say if it was distortion or processing artifacts but i get that less now after break in.
I’ve got the first version too, and agree it could do with more clarity and sparkle. Oluvs Gadgets did a great comparison quite a while back where he took all the covers off and it sounded much better. But you have to ask why they didn’t use a more acoustically transparent material in the first place???
@@alanrossreviews he is awesome... excited to hear how his tuned earfun earbuds sounds... close to reference sound... quite hopeful that it is gonna sound much better... he did a lot of comparisons within this size... the tribit was overall better back then but boost had more bass ... awesome stuffs ... now he is not into youtube

Greetings Mr Alan I would be grateful if you could review the soundcore icon plus and compare it to the sound core boost And if possible a comparison between soundcore boost v1 VS upgraded v2 Great job
Hola amigos.
what about the JBL charge 5 ....? is it available...? it will not be able to beat the motion plus in terms of mids and highs ... but maybe it will go deeper in the low low .... gonna be interesting 😋
Can you do a rewiev of tronsmart mega pro speaker 60 w and xdobo x8 plus 80w . and compare the sound and quality ,you do the best of the best testing and amazing contenet . Love your videos .And your voice.
Cheers from Brazil! I'd very much like for you to review the Xiaomi Mi Bluetooth Speaker (16w). It seems like a direct competitor for the JBL Flip. Thanks!
@Alan Ross Reviews The lack of aux input can be frustrating. Can the Soundcore Boost function as a USB Speaker? Some bluetooth speakers like Tronsmart when plugged in to a computer using a "data/sync" cable instead of a "charge only" cable allow the speaker to function as a USB speaker - no aux cable required.
@@alanrossreviews I'm not sure but Feb 2017 just seemed like a loooong time ago and the soundcore boost you are talking about was quite new I thought what with the USB-C, etc. I'm sure I've missed something here, so apologies :-) Lots of different but similar names :-(
@@ThibautMahringer owww yeah... I was a bit busy ... after watching the full video I now know this is totally a new upgraded speaker with the same design... little cute speaker packs some powerful punch ... I loved the design form factor of it ... but was muddy too much ... even the BT is 5 now from 4.2 real upgrade ... new champion because the bass will attract more people like the soundcore boom
Great job Allen as usual. What about latency I like to watch TH-cam stuff. is the anchor better with latency and does the anchor have a better battery life which is always important. 🤔ray
both bad for latency. boost has bigger battery but has deeper bass and goes louder which will reduce max battery life. a lot will depend on the tracks you play.
Hi Alan, trying to decide btw 1x Montion Plus or 2x Soundcore Boost. There is no tribit where I live. Not Party, just home listening and garden sometimes. Thanks
Hey m8, lovely review and the reviewer as always ;) Only thing missing on tribit for me is that little bass extension, otherwise its a godly sounding thing. I love the thump on the Anker, how do you reckon it compares bass wise to its bigger brother Motion Plus?
Alan - or someone who also has this speaker (Soundcore Boost) - would you please try it out with Windows 10 for me? With the 20H2 version I find that when I try to adjust the volume under Windows, nothing happens, but when I do the same on the speaker, everything is OK, the sliders also move on the screen (absolut volume works). Can you confirm this?
Same for me I love this warm bass on the Soundcore boost and I was a bit disapointed to not find it on the motion plus, but i can hear it is "bubbling"/distording (even with low volume) when music with strong bass are played with "bass up". It's ok with bass up Off but, no bass at all.. I have the 1rst version, did it gone with the 2nd version ? I'm not sure, you say nope ? hard for me to understand :p
soundcore boost sound so clear no distortion at all...But when you play heavy bass song, the back radiator will hit the grill which cause cranking noise...
Hi Ross l know another question if l have a budget upto £200 what Bluetooth Speaker would be good to listen to at low volume under 50%. Bass l am not bothered with but clarity l prefer. Only connected to phone. Thankyou very much. Love your wit.
I really was disappointed that the soundcore boom doesn't have an auxiliary input... I was surprised bc the motion plus has it. D-9 has it. In fact, it seems most boomboxes in that price range have it. How even the $18 midola t pro has an auxiliary input.
I have a maxsound plus before but I sell and buy storm box and I plan to buy again either maxsound plus or anker boost it is worth it have a anker boost?
Maxsound plus is little bit brighter but the soundcore boost is punchy. I like the vocals of maxsound plus but the low end is better without bargain in soundcore boost.
As the owner of the speaker from tribit, I will say: damn! it is too late now, but if tribit refused to obey again, I buy an anker boost :P depending on the conditions, sometimes I have to turn on an additional application in order to increase the bass enhancement, because tribit sounds not mature enough, better quieter, but I prefer it to sound fuller.
I am new to the BT speaker market.and looking at all these reviews..Can everyone chime in as to how and when this latency would affect the audio on videos and movies??? And what latency number is great>acceptable>bad ?? Why is this A/V latency not part of every speaker evaluation on any of the review sites??? I assume that streaming instructional videos [such as this alanross review], and music videos, and movies, would be a large portion of BT speaker use. Thanks @@alanrossreviews
The oddest thing about USB-C speakers is some speakers won't accept a USB-C PD charger and literally won't charge. The only way to charge them is a USB A - USB C cable
@@alanrossreviews I agree. It's just strange and annoying that companies won't put in the minimal time to allow their devices to accept USB C to USB C cables
@@alanrossreviews Wow. I didn't realise. I suppose it seems logical with the progression of everything electronic. Thanks for the reply Alan. Keep up the high standard. All the best.
@@alanrossreviews that's true. Tribit is quite expensive for me to buy though, so it's a tough decision. Amazon.de doesn't have one and buying from UK would be 52e+10e shipping + tax if its caught in customs duty
I expected it, the new boost sounds completely different than the old, only the bass is similar. Mids were pushed more on the old model, while highs were not that great, there was a boost (haha funny) after 10kHz but not enough because 2kHz to 8kHz was recessed, with that grill that didn't help... I managed to remove it without breaking the air seals, it's not pretty anymore, but I recovered a bit of high end which I like. Overall it was still bass heavy, maybe a little too much even if it's impressive for the size and price. However the old model had a bass up that actually added bass, without it it was QUITE flat. I kinda prefer the older one. Here mids are a bit too shy to my taste ! Still a good value to me. (But I still prefer Maxsound plus 😝)
@@alanrossreviews Yep, but both have their own qualities. Tribit have aux for example I don't think the boost is bad, but maybe what you said about how it's a old speaker resonate with me. I think it's tuning is neither modern or flat. I have difficulties to like it (both v1 and v2) as much as I used to in 2017. It sounds like an old speaker even if ultimately it's still good, especially in bass.
Hey Alan. The new Sonos Roam was announced today - looks like it could be a real contender for a portable, affordable, travel speaker. Do you plan to review it when it arrives in April? Cheers
Hi Alan! New subscriber here and a fan now. I just stumbled your channel when I suddenly need to make a sudden last minute purchase decision because of an ongoing online selling platform here in the Philippines 🇵🇭 I am an owner and long time user of Anker Soundcore Select. I got my eyes fixed w/ Anker Soundcore 3 but then you have introduced me to Souncore Boost and Tribit Maxsound Plus both of them so good on their own ways that your review ended up convincing me to get them both. Haha! Keep doing great reviews. 2 thumbs up, man. I am a fan now and I think you have woken up the sleeping audiophile in me ahahaha.
@@alanrossreviews Thank you! I've really learned a lot from your other reviews. I think i'm sticking with the smaller options for now as I am also watching out more regarding the micros. I think i'll get there and will have myself to also own a boom. Think that I will also be having a particular portable speaker depending on my listening situation preference sort of like that. Hehe. Cheers!
I'm also from Philippines. I owned an old 2pcs Flare and also my bro have a Motion+. Looking for good reviews to replace my soon to be retiring speakers. lol. My budget is 50$ for a single speaker 100 to make it stereo. There is an upgraded version of the tribit but looks like at 80% volume the anker in this vid sounds better but the anker is more expensive here in PH it cost around 80$.
Hi maybe you could give me a good advice, So here’s the thing I never used Anker or Tribit, but I’m looking for ‘the best’ budget portable bluetooth speaker for my taste. So here’s the thing I like movie/tv show music from Ramin Djawadi. I really like voices and instrumentals, but also old music (60’s till 80’s), I like to get the feeling as if the music surrounds me when I listen to it (I have a good set of headphones for this). I like music when it’s punchy or has a warm bass, but I don’t want it to be boomy or overruling the other sounds or voices. I also like clarity/brightness when listening to music (I want to hear some deepness; lows mids and highs must be recognizable). So here’s my question, which product of Anker or Tribit (or maybe there’s another product on the market) should I go for? Which one would you recommend?
hum, motion plus sounds better, 50 pounds better? well thats hard to say, but its a better speaker but also bigger. for me if you dont need the size of the boost then i would get the m+, but i would rather have the motion boom 🤗
you Always speak custom equalizer on motion+. I have tribit xsound go, i use poco phone which has custom equalizer for Bluetooth phone, and i use your motion+ equalizer on xsound go. dam xsound for such small size it bad asss. mind it i have mounted this speaker on my motorcycle. i just waiting for version 3 for maxsound plus with Bluetooth 5.3, aptx and 30 watt speakers as said by one of the support team.
ha! just one? im actually working on a video of 2 boosts against m+ and boom. 2 boosts wins the day for sure but one, well might depend on the volumes you play. m+ itself doesnt come alive till louder volumes.
@@alanrossreviews I am waiting :D I always liked soundcore boost's sound signature, there was no eq in first version...My doughter used it for very long time, now she has onyx 6...
@@alanrossreviews She also knows well about bt speakers because of me lol... She surprised about the sound of Onyx 6 and love this one so very much...She always says that also her friends like it as well...
I bought a Soundcore Boost in the recent Black Friday sales. Any deep bass in a track (D&B and Jungle were the worst offenders) would make a terrible rattling sound which sounded like the rear passive radiator hitting the grill. If you put on a tone generator and played a tone lower than 70hz it sounded like a machine gun even on 30% volume. Anker send me a new one that wouldn't stand on the rubber feet properly because the base was warped like a banana! Also, the volume of this new one was really low, no matter how much you cranked the volume of the source and all bass response would cut out at 50%. Sent straight back for a refund and have just ordered the Tribit. Really disappointed as the design and feature set of the Anker beats the Tribit in my opinion.
@@alanrossreviews Yeah Alan I think I got unlucky getting two duff units in a row. Had loads of Anker stuff before and never had a problem. The Tribit came today and wow, definitely a more mature, composed sound with a big improvement in quality the mids and highs but as you say, at the expense of deeper bass.
hahaha you got boost finally ... I don't like it ... you're not gonna like it because vocals don't pop ... sounds like under blanket ... but bass is nice ... let's see what's going on ... what the fk ... this one is upgraded... damn 😅
@@alanrossreviews hey can I upgrade mine ...? Is there a firmware that i can install to get the app custom eq support ....? eq makes difference sure ... please tell me if you know....
only because its against two bright sounding speakers, in the real world at 60% and over it sounds fine with a nice warm bass. here its muddy at lower volume because of my tuning, and my rule for my videos of one eq for all volumes for simplicity.

Stay safe 👍🏼
you might find the uboom x fits the bill. but its fiddly and you need to use oluv eqs. out on the 8th. i have a video coming soon on this.
@@Mr-Safology id say boom 2 plus

How come the tribit Maxsound plus is still up there with the best considering its 2 years old.?
Because tribit give value? If it was made by jbl it would be £100 and we wouldn't be calling it a classic.
I *think* your date of release for the soundcore boost may be wrong on your on-screen table buddy. Keep up the good work.

Nice Review 👍🏻 Curious about Tribit StormBox Pro ?

I'm not sure, you say nope ? hard for me to understand :p
if you mean the passive radiator hitting the grill then mine doesnt seem to have that issue.
Is it possible to make the Soundcore Boost sound brighter like the Tribit Maxsound Plus using the equalizer settings?
but then you lose the whole point of the boost, you cant make it brighter without losing the bass
soundcore boost sound so clear no distortion at all...But when you play heavy bass song, the back radiator will hit the grill which cause cranking noise...
yup! there always these issues just keeps a speaker from being as good as it could have been, frustrating!

I really was disappointed that the soundcore boom doesn't have an auxiliary input... I was surprised bc the motion plus has it. D-9 has it. In fact, it seems most boomboxes in that price range have it. How even the $18 midola t pro has an auxiliary input.

The oddest thing about USB-C speakers is some speakers won't accept a USB-C PD charger and literally won't charge. The only way to charge them is a USB A - USB C cable
yeah but remember usb-c is just a connection, not how they talk to each other.

Yeah i never heard the v1 but this v2 has a trick the tribit cant match and thats tws. This really does seem a speaker people are split over.
@@alanrossreviews Yep, but both have their own qualities. Tribit have aux for example
I don't think the boost is bad, but maybe what you said about how it's a old speaker resonate with me. I think it's tuning is neither modern or flat. I have difficulties to like it (both v1 and v2) as much as I used to in 2017. It sounds like an old speaker even if ultimately it's still good, especially in bass.
Im just judging it for the size and price. Who do you think is best in that area?
Hey Alan. The new Sonos Roam was announced today - looks like it could be a real contender for a portable, affordable, travel speaker. Do you plan to review it when it arrives in April? Cheers

Hi Alan! New subscriber here and a fan now. I just stumbled your channel when I suddenly need to make a sudden last minute purchase decision because of an ongoing online selling platform here in the Philippines 🇵🇭
I am an owner and long time user of Anker Soundcore Select. I got my eyes fixed w/ Anker Soundcore 3 but then you have introduced me to Souncore Boost and Tribit Maxsound Plus both of them so good on their own ways that your review ended up convincing me to get them both. @@alanrossreviews Thank you! I've really learned a lot from your other reviews. I think i'm sticking with the smaller options for now as I am also watching out more regarding the micros. I am also looking at the Xiaomi 16 watts around 30-40$.
Hi maybe you could give me a good advice,
So here’s the thing I never used Anker or Tribit, but I’m looking for ‘the best’ budget portable bluetooth speaker for my taste.
Do you think is it worth spending extra 50 pounds for motion+ over Boost?
hum, motion plus sounds better, 50 pounds better? well thats hard to say, but its a better speaker but also bigger. for me if you dont need the size of the boost then i would get the m+, but i would rather have the motion boom 🤗

Why did you say that "up to 40 KHz" for the Soundcore Boost is "an absolute joke"? To my ears the Soundcore sounds muffled.
i explained in the video.
For me tribit xsound much ok..and its price for today..
Really disappointed as the design and feature set of the Anker beats the Tribit in my opinion.

only because its against two bright sounding speakers, in the real world at 60% and over it sounds fine with a nice warm bass. here its muddy at lower volume because of my tuning, and my rule for my videos of one eq for all volumes for simplicity.
