I saw this beautiful BEAST at Reno/Stead a few years back. Chatted with the owners. What great people answering all my stupid questions. IMPRESSIVE in person.
Jim Moss built this in a garage. 50,000 hours to build. Bigger engine 10% bigger wing and vertical. Wider gear stance, than the original QED. Hence the name " Super QED" Jim Moss died weeks before it first flew. It's now for sale for $ 900,000
These are seriously my favorite planes. They look like you just strapped wings on an oversized engine lol. I have a Matchbox toy of one thats painted exactly like this one on my tv stand as I'm watching this video. That's the closest I'll get to owning one. 😂
Beautiful build. Engine choice may have been the best and most economical available, but it almost seems like an aberration to have anything but a P&W radial in a Gee Bee. The Wrights had good power-to-weight, but a much less pleasing exhaust note, what I call the Wright Thump. Hornets of 900hp are not very common today, and the equivalent P&W engine hp-wise would be the R-1830 which is a two-row engine which is unlikely to have fit in the application.
I remember first seeing this in a book about planes when I was like 7, my dad was an aviation enthusiast, and got me into it, and the first thought I had was why is it so fat, because I was so used to seeing propellor aircraft like the A6M, P-36, P-51, and so on, even though the P-47 was fat, the Gee Bee to me was next level fat
Surround sound gave me radial chills! Love it!
What a unique looking aircraft, Jason. Thanks for capturing it on video, and for providing the story of this jem, as well.

It now belongs to the Mid America Flight Museum at Mt. Pleasant, Texas. It’s currently being restored to airworthiness at their Urbana, Ohio facility.
This looks like a two-place cockpit.
Love the T-28 engine ever since I flew one.
You can sure hear those wires singing at speed. Heard them also in another flight video
That's El Chupcapbra in the first Planes movie

Hey Jason
Another great video.

Yoooooooooooooo. A Gee Bee 😱😱😱😱😱. Is it still flying or did it just fly that day only?
Здравствуйте. Спасибо за видео !!!
I can tell that the Gee Bee features a three-bladed propeller.
🇬🇧Imagine getting a ride in that ❤🇬🇧
