With speaker cable, you very quickly encounter the law of diminishing returns. There is no way a 3000 dollar set will be 10 times better than a 300 dollar set. It's simply conspicuous consumption.

I used 10 gage stranded copper power cord from Home Depot. I tried those expensive flat cables and they did sound better, less power drop. I achieved the same sound quality with the 10 gage cable, using high quality banana connectors. If anything give the 10 gage power cord a try, you maybe suprised.

Very interesting my question is if your speaker manufacturer is using a specific brand cable to connect your crossovers to connect from your Hub on the back of your speaker to your tweeters woofers Etc why would you use any other brand to connect to your amplifier it's almost in Defiance wouldn't it be that it would best be served if your speaker manufacturer using a particular brand of cable to internally wire the speakers for impedance Distortion Etc you would use that same brand of cable to connect the speaker itself to the amplifier. So that you are not defeating compatibility 19 gauge wire say internally, but then you decide to put a 12 gauge wire connected to it so I would think you would want compatibility among the internal cabling to your external cabling to your amplifier. Your thoughts?

I'm faced with a non-ideal set up in a new apartment. This likely isn't a long term living scenario, but I want to set up my system while we're here. I need something as long as 30 feet. Do you know of any options that could fit that need?

I don't get it: you say you're gonna choose the cheaper ones because you value your budget more than the extra 5% of perfection the expensive ones offer... but then you say that you still own expensive cables... so why not use these, if you have them?

The extent of the effect probably depends on the elements of the chain.
I have seven types of speaker cables. My system sounds different with each one.
The effect of the speaker cables on the sound is greater than that of the connecting cables (between DAC and amplifier).

From the Audio Research Ref 150SE manual:
    Important
Use the best available speaker wires and interconnects. Audio Research cannot emphasize this enough. As better components and systems are developed, it becomes increasingly important to avoid the limitations of inferior system interconnections.

most amps etc I've seen recommend 14 ga wires not $ 200 a foot stuff, just copper wire. I'm using 10 ga now, used 14 ga 'monster' type for like 2 decades no problem but thought it was getting funky, at least visually. the standard wire gauge per length of wire run factor.
I have had problems with ' banana plugs' from E bay ( nakamichi brand ) breaking. irritating.
