I'd rather own this than anything new made today. So achingly beautiful. When car manufacturers and automotive engineers knew how to build cars with style and class. 😍
I'd say that Studebaker was the single greatest American carmaker. True, not near as luxurious, but it definitely made a larger impact while being just as well-built.
This model is a fastback 2-dr sedan. Very good looking; it has pontoon rear fenders instead of the bathtub look that was to come. That blue interior is the best I've seen.
Yes, these are fantastic classics! Just gorgeous! It is with a wonderful new owner in Colorado. He'll show it and also participate in CCCA CARavans. Couldn't be better!
We have a 1947 Packard Super Clipper Club Sedan at our Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo, California. I love it! It's my dream car. I always enjoy driving the car.
I can't get over the arguments in the comments section . Nice car , Nice to look at , The Snobs are arguing about the Swan on the Hood and talking about it's not worth that much compared to other models . It's about the car not an individual's expertise .
Im trying to locate my father's last Packard he died in 95 in Worcester Massachusetts. He had a completely restored Pink 1947 Packard coupe. Not sure model I was only 9 at the time. But he had it lowered with mooneyes wheels pinstripe designs on the trunk. Shaved handles etc. Car was rotting in a field when he purchased it for 400$ I'm gonna locate his old title or look through all the paperwork I have from the car and hopefully try to locate it. Would be a dream to see if it's still alive or still in condition my father brought it to.
I am probably more a Packard man than anyone on here. BUT, I am not such a Packard snob as you who calls someone a name because they use an interchangeable name for a hood ornament. I just felt the average person would relate more to Pelican than the lofty sounding real name. Geez, whats your problem? You get some kind of thrill insulting others, says a lot about who you are.
Not a Pelican Jackass. You don't know Packards if you think it's a Pelican. LOL I have a Large Packard collection and don't have any Pelicans. This car was restored in great condition. Someone did a nice job with the paint and interior, even though this year isn't worth much. Lucky to get 25 K
+Frank Dunbar I hate to tell you this but you don't know shit !!! If you think a Pelican and a Cormorant are the same bird you seriously need to go see a psychologist !! For a start a pelican is three to four times larger !
You and Charlie don't know shit either. Packard called it a pelican, not a cormorant. It was always intended to be a pelican. Pelicans have heraldic significance, cormorants don't.
'47 Packard Clippers are worth a lot. The downward pricing (though rising) starts with the '48. '47 Packard is the last year officially (for what that's worth) recognized as a "Classic."

Packard called it a pelican. Some thin-skinned people don't like that they did, but they did. They much prefer to falsify history so they can call it a cormorant. That's just silly. Wikipedia says 'There is no consistent distinction between "cormorants" and "shags"... ' Would they feel the same if they had to call it a shag? Probably not. Shag doesn't sound nearly as elegant as cormorant.
It's a swan. I own a packard. If you don't know, then you just don't know. It's up to our generation to teach. Not to degrade, but to teach the beauty of these cars.
@@aaronlovell6026 If one looks at the various iterations of the bird, it's clearly never a pelican. I agree that it looks somewhat like a swan but the wing shapes are wrong for that fowl as is the bill. The author of "Hood Ornaments and Automotive Mascots" describes it as more of a cormorant and that certainly fits well.
One of the best American Auto's Ever, bar none! So stylish, and refined for the era! A dreamboat.
I'd rather own this than anything new made today. So achingly beautiful. When car manufacturers and automotive engineers knew how to build cars with style and class. 😍
Needs a pelican, but what a magnificent beast! Miss the Packard, a car that made America great.
Beautiful car. Love the old Packards. Thank you.
You can't name 3 cars more beautiful than this. Packard was the greatest American car maker bar none.

Magnificent!

This car was replaced by a design often called a "Pregnant Elephant."
Absolutely stunning! The most beautiful blue I have ever seen on a car
Packard was the Rolls Royce of American cars!

Harry Clark I know kind of a rude question, but, what did it sell for if you dont mind me asking?

You should look at the 1948 convertible packard in red. You can't get a more beautiful vehicle than that. It's like art on wheels.
Why would you sell it it's wonderful car nice to see people restore these forgotten classics

I wonder if Ford stylists had something like this in mind when they designed the Edsel grill but got it horribly wrong.
Wow, beautiful car. This was a factory body style??
Yes it was.
Last year they did the zeppelin headliner.😢
