- Character dining is a fun addition to your vacation -- but should you go at Disney World or Universal Orlando? Molly is headed to have lunch with Mickey Mouse and dinner with Spider-man to find out! We're doing a side-by-side comparison of Hollywood and Vine at Disney's Hollywood Studios and the Marvel Character Dining at Islands of Adventure to see what character meals are like at the two theme park giants.

I wish they would do a Harry Potter character dining experience. Imagine eating a buffet in the Great Hall and talking to nearly headless Nick or McGonagall
It’d never work, the actors are too iconic to have a random character actor be paid $18 an hour to impersonate them. Disneys princesses work because for the most part they’re a cartoon brought to life.
It sounds a great idea, but it’d be so hard to pull off well, that it’s for the best they don’t try
At first I thought it wouldn't work, but the Marvel character meal seems to work and those actors are pretty iconic 🤷 I dunno, maybe I'm dreaming too hard lol
@@shaaaatingggi think disney did this just fine with Rey from Star Wars. I’m always amazed how much the cast members who play her look like her and even sound like her. Im sure there’s Harry Potter look-a-likes who could do the parts justice. I’d definitely be willing to overlook a few differences to have the experience! Especially characters like Hagrid (obviously using disguised stilts) and dumbledore would be pretty easy because they have very mimicable ways of speaking and the facial hair will disguise a lot of difference between the actors.
It’s a great idea, but if I’m remembering things right, there’s a ‘no characters from the books being played by team members’ clause in the contract. Allegedly, she didn’t want Harry and most of the other named characters showing up in the parks as meet-and-greet characters, which is why you get the train conductor, the Knight Bus conductor that’s not Ernie or Stan and other miscellaneous characters who aren’t named in the books or movies.
The lady doing Rogue is spot on! She is awesome!
I love the story that Alan tells that he thought Molly was out of his league. As a dorky guy, I can so relate. I hope he talks more about this even though its personal. As I got older I learned to just go for it and do what you want. I found many jobs and many former ex girlfriends by just saying "eff it" and do it. You guys are the best!
Yeah, I would love to hear more about their relationship, I think mixing in a little personal life content with the rest of it is just fun and makes it seem more authentic and down-to-earth.
Let them have their private lives. Geeze people. In todays world there are too many nuts out there that’ll end up stalking them.

Super heroes talk so obviously it’s different anyway, BUT: universal character dining seems REALLY cool and more personalized bc the characters can engage on a deeper level and focus on what the guests bring to the convo. Of course Mickey & friends are magical!! But i wasn’t expecting universal to actually bring it when it comes to character dining!!!
I am just so amazed at how witty and quick u are with talking to each character I get tongue tied and nervous😊. Then u are able to explain the food and eat ur awesome. Love ya Moll

All the Universal face characters were putting their whole mutantussy into these interactions and I’m living for it.
okay Universal has a way more personal and fun character dining experience than Disney. The thing that's awkward about Disney is that unless you have a speaking character that swings by, it's hard to read the costumed characters and that might be tough for someone who is a little bit more shy to start off a conversation.
That Spiderman was truly epic- he cracked me up every time you talked with him.
Both experiences look fun. The quality of the Marvel costumes between Avengers Campus at DCA and Universal is huge
I love seeing Universal and Disney side by side without "picking" what's better, and seeing the different strengths. I love them both, and I feel so safe in the space you've made to love them both!! Your character interactions are always top tier.
We love doing character dining even without the children because you’re exactly right I can see 4 to 6 characters had an air conditioning meal and not wearing a long line in the parks. Please keep doing what you’re doing. Absolutely love all the contents would love to see more character dining. Maybe you show me one that I don’t know about
The Universal character dining is so FUN. Molly's patter is top-tier, and I'm so glad she showed up ready to GO. So good.
Here is my TIP that makes Hollywood and Vine the BEST character dining at WDW - go later! I have been many times and if you go in the last couple of hours that they are open, you will get the best character interactions you have ever had! They come to see you 3 or 4 times, the last couple of times I have had mickey sit down with us at the table (and even keep messing with my dad who wasn't paying him attention, I've had Donald come and ask for my autograph and keep coming to take pictures with me and on and on, and that kind of stuff has happened the last 4 times I've went to review it and the last couple of times I went to just be there with family and friends!

I so love your character interaction. Gives me loads of ideas for when we go. Interesting as we were wanting to do crystal palace but as 2 adults were feeling a bit self conscious! But then we are also British so that may be it 😂
We went to the Princess breakfast at Akershus in Epcot as 2 adults and the Crystal Palace breakfast and I will say it’s way less awkward at Crystal Palace because they are in full costume lol

Molly, not that i think you're hurting for ideas, however, would you ever make a video that entails video recording in the parks (i don't think i've seen this subject before). I'd love to know some of your tricks and tips.... your recording of Rogue is epic. How do you record up close so well and not have a cast member focus on the camera? What discussion(s) do you have before recording? I'm assembling for my "home movies" (not to be posted) a recent Disneyworld trip and i wished i'd have talked to the camera more.....things i'll fix with voiceover. Wondering about your vlogging approach and choices for certain equipment. Thx for reading & considering. I think it would be unique because i watched lots of Disney TH-camrs before traveling but didn't see anything near this subject.
The interactions with the marvel characters look alot fun
When you guys started MC, I thought I'd only tune in for your Disney content but I gotta say I've also been loving the twitch streams. Maybe because I'm the same generation as you, but every time I tune into a live stream I find myself laughing super hard. Keep up the great work. Cool to see a different side of you guys and discover you have independent opinions and perspectives on life that aren't awful, which is super rare these days.😄😃

A favorite interaction I had with Spiderman at Universal Orlando was after a week at Disney... we told him where we'd been, and he said "Oh, my other boss!" and joked about the situation, highlight of the trip as a lifelong Spiderman fan with nostalgic memories of Spiderman at Universal who also loves the MCU!
I had no clue how much food variety was at either of these spots and they both look amazing. The Marvel interactions though??!! I need to go on my next Universal trip!!!!
So if Alan ever quits his day job, he should be a comic book Marvel Character. He would be awesome at that!
I was thinking that during the Spidey encounter! Of course Alan’s too tall to be Spidey, but the vibes are right.

I love this video!!! The throw down videos between the parks are the best. Id also like to see a “winner picks dinner” outside of the parks… maybe someone plans date night near the parks… sometimes we’ve been on vacation and we need a break from the Disney bubble

Mulan had been added to the Akerhaus breakfast, which when open the princesses go around quite a few times. We still go every time we're in EPCOT as it's my now 21 yr old daughter's favorite restaurant.

How about adding a character dining/staycation review at some of the Good Neighbor hotels? I've often wondered what it would be like to break the Disney Bubble (sort of) and still see and interact with characters.
We LOVED our Hollywood and Vine dining experience. We saw Mickey and Minnie each 4-5 times and they spent a ton of time with our kids. I guess it can vary depending on how busy the restaurant is when you go? And we thought the food was better than expected for a buffet. Enjoyed your reviews!

h my goodness, thank you for this video Molly!! I didn't realize that Universal has a Marvel character dining experience. My grandson is all about his Marvel characters so I will have to make this a must do when we come in October!!! Now to get his father to start showing him the comic book versions of his favorite characters. LOL.

It would be great for a Spiderman/Princess comparison but I would like it from 1900 Park Fare which I think isn't open yet. Love all your videos. It was meh. Getting a private pic with Michael Myers and the mummy was awesome but the food was very subpar given the price
In regard to not coming during busy times, I realize everyone is different, but I am very thankful my child does so well in school because I do take her out of school for the week that we go so that we can go during the less busy/crazy times. It just makes it so much more enjoyable.

Awesome Video! I think I would like Disney better just because I don't know all the characters at Universal - you always do a great job talking to them. I doubt I would take the boys to a character breakfast because they are getting older but we always loved the pooh characters in disneyland at breakfast and get into the parks early
Now that the buffet is back at Hollywood and Vine, it kind of looks better than I expected! I went when it was a la carte and thought the food was good, I just wish I had more. I'll have to go back and go at it again! I've only been to Universal 2 times (RIP Shrek 4-D), and I HOPE they have a Dreamworks Character Dining Experience, who doesn't want to eat with Shrek and pals?! I'll have to do the Marvel Dining Experience sometime, looks fun!

Off the top of my noggin, Seuss Landing characters vs The Simpsons vs Toy Story Land vs Galaxy's Edge 9r something along those lines. The X-Men characters were especially funny and I don't know them either.
We had the best experience at Hollywood & Vine in January! Our server recommended the teriyaki tofu, even though none of us were plant-based eaters. It was fantastic!! Worth trying!
