Barrera was at his tiptop prime at this point of his career. Coming into this, he defeated Johnny Tapia, Erik Morales, and Naseem Hamed. All of them were the top dogs of the Division. The last two mentioned were undefeated and Barrera dented their records. Barrera at this point was the King of the Division. Pacquiao was unknown at this time. But on this night a superstar was born.

I remember watching this fight randomly one late night. it was being shown for free in the UK. I had never heard of Manny and I became a fan instantly.
Same. Internet was a niche thing back then so I was just randomly switching channels out of boredom and watched this fight. Became an instant Manny fan.
@@Incubator859 Ironically I had the internet back then as well ha ha, I used to stay up super late on my PC, but always had something on the TV next to it as background. This fight was one such occasion of finding something to watch.
Yes indeed bud, I did the exact same thing! Didn't have the channel it was shown live on. But the next night I think it was, probably a Sunday, I accidently stumbled accross it on BBC2 or something. Was absolutely mesmerised. 😮 🥊
I was a filipino 12 y/o during this fight and I dont know Manny at that time. I was rooting for Barrera because i'm a fan of him but after this fight I instantly became a Pacquiao fan.
Similar to me. One day in the afternoon the replay was shown on TV, I thought to myself, is this the same Barrera that beat Hamed? I was a bit confused. Became a Pacquiao fan instantly. After further research, i realized I saw Pacquiao fight before on Tyson/Lewis undercard that night.
I love dela hoya's big smile there, he had no idea that small guy will retire him in the future 😂

He was treated unfair in the 1st round, but he didn't make a fuss out of it. What a man.
The intro was enough to make a grown man cry . Pac-Man the 🐐 was embracing it all and just smiling. 🥹 San Antonio fans were blessed tht night and didn’t realize a legend WAS IN THE MAKING . SOUTHEAST ASIA favorite boxer of all time 💯 🇵🇭
Who else in 2024 is watching?
Remember that guy behind Pacman during introduction, Murad Muhammad, the former promoter of Pacquiao, who stole Pacquiao's money? Maybe if he could see the future, he would have earned more money by staying loyal to Pacquiao instead of doing foolish things. Regret of a lifetime.
I like how the crowd changed from Barrera fans to appreciating the young superstar. Great to see a performance like this being applauded.
Not really. There were some Pacquiao fans cheering from the start but were drowned out by the Mexican’s boos. After Pacquiao TKO’d Barrera, the only thing remaining is the Pacquiao fans celebrating and the Barrera’s fans stunned in silence.
They were booing midway through because their red-hot favourite was getting battered. Complete silence from then because they knew he was a shot duck 😂

Indeed. Pac fired back though, and that is what matters in the end 😎
Manny is not dumb at all he even reply the headbutts
barrera tried to cheat but paid the prize dearly. no respect for that kind of act.
Even this fight is enough because it's 1 sided fight in favor to Pacquiao, but Pacquiao give chance Barrera a rematch, Pacquiao humblely said "I became popular in US because Barrera give me an opportunity to fight me, so I give him a rematch too if he wants a rematch"

Do y'all realize how crazy PACQUIAO is to do this? Man really made his name knowm in his opponent's territory. He humiliated Barrera not just by outboxing him, but also by forcing Barrera's corner to stop the fight, IN FRONT OF THEIR OWN CROWD. How hard this must be for them. Legend.
How hia brother stopped the fight and hugged antonio and cried was a manifestation of his immense love and protection for his brother..

Barrera was 29 years old (prime) when this fight happened and Pacquiao was 24 (young) but the speed and annihilation by Pacquiao was too much that Barrera looks like a 40 year old fighter. This was Manny's first major step to become a legend. Incredible...
This Barera Paqiauo first fight is the best for Manny he said so and l agree. With all the cheating and the refere's mistakes and condoning Barera to push down Manny's head one time Manny has to hold on to the legs of Barera. Aha! At the middle of the fight Lawrence woke up!! Its hard to comprehend how exceptional of condition Manny is in. His speed and power were just on another level. For him to just take apart a great fighter like Berrera is just incredible at that point in his career!
I just watched a video of Manny talking about this fight. He said he practiced boxing 36 rounds for this match, so after the fight he wasn’t even tired
Power is fine, just not on another level. His speed is on another level though.

Prior to this fight, Pacquiao spar 36 rounds every sesion. And the result is vissible, from the start of the round till it ends, Pacquiao's pace and rhythym did not change. Draining his opponent while sustaining damage, Pacman in this time was an unstoppable beast that no one can compare of todays boxing generation.

I watched this fight live. I remember...what in the world could stop this tornado of a straight left hand and body movement - I had never seen anything like this in my life. Like...what is this guy?!?!?! Amazing. And Barrera was a freak. A king killer, a monster of awesomeness, reduced to getting beaten so badly. Wow. Just Wow.
As Manny said before this is the most focused and most prepared his been in the fight, the hardest training he had, doing 32 rounds of sparring every day up to the fight and his most favorite fight of all. This fight catapulted him to be a superstar. GOAT

Nope. Manny received this fight 2 weeks prior to the fight. He was just a replacement opponent of Barrera. How can he be prepare for Barrera for that little time? Anyways. Manny is always ready to fight. His most prepared fight was when he fought Morales for the 2nd time.

57:50 this made me tear up as a kid. I was celebrating manny's victory with my bro and my dad but when I saw this I was saddened to see marco antonio's compatriots cry seeing his loss. Heart breaking
I love to watch this moment again and again this is the pacquiao megafight that every filipinos loves to watch every fight.that every single Pacquiao fight its discipline us filipinos and feels happy.
In all of Pacquiao's fights this was the most dramatic. Pacquiao was a heavy underdog and the arena filled with Barrera fans. Despite all the odds against him, Pacquiao put on the performance of his career, beating the Lineal Champ and then a legend Barrera by TKO in the 11th round. His trainer jumping into the ring to stop the fight, crying and hugging Barrera was Iconic.
He was a bigger underdog in the DLH fight, Id say that was more dramatic
@@DensDaPens probably true if you look at it at popularity. It was dramatic in the sense that DLH was the biggest name in the Sport. But if you look at it at achievement, Barrera was the Ring Lineal titlist at that time and Pacquiao then was relatively unknown to general viewers. The corner waving the fight was so epic that it's like a scene you only see in movies. You can hear the Mexican fanbase crying after the fight.
The Morales rematches were pretty emotional and vital in maintaining himself as a top tier contender. Marquez 2 was a awesome victory too.
Pacman already made a name for himself. He was the IBF champion. Everyone knows it was againts Ledwaba where Pacquiao was the heaviest underdog and put on a dramatic performance while being totally unknown to the point where the announcers didn't even know how to pronounce his name!

Barrera gave pacman an pportunity. Thats how new legends are born. New guys are scared to give the young ones an opportunity and thats why boxing is stalled at the moment

the ideal age prime of most legendary boxers was at their 29-31 yrs. old, but Manny still challenges those top great boxers in their prime even younger and older than Manny's age, and yet became the greatest boxer of his era beating those legendary boxers unimaginably and seem's like a fairytale or dream fighter who defeat the top champions in every division he could climb in boxing.
