I just Did a Baking soda rinse and ACV rinse for the first time this week.
I see very contradictory information out there, but I do feel the way I did it worked (possibly better than the way you did).
I say this because I read one place that it is bad to mix the acv and baking soda, because the reaction that takes place nulls out some of the benefits of the soak. Not 100% sure about that, but I do know that it cleaned and freshened my hair VERY well when i did it like this and it removed most (if not all) build-up (And thats from someone who started with beeswax)
I used:
Baking soda
Witch hazel -->thayers witch hazel with rose petal -> from target
lavender essential oil
orange essential oil
peppermint essential oil
and hot water
for the first soak, 10-15 minutes.
then i used
ACV

for the second soak, 10-15 minutes.
Bruh...you're supposed to SOAK😂😂😂 that's the 2nd time I seen you do that lol. 15 minutes. even people who don't use products like me come out with murky water.
Blue Marley I soak for at least a good 30 minutes because mine are super long, maybe that's why it isn't affecting the build up like it should be, because her not soaking and scrubbing at them while in the solution.

Some suggestions from a fellow loc queen: The mix should be part ACV and part water the pH level of the acv is too acidic for the levels of ph on your head so dilute it or you’ll have to follow up with a shampoo (either way I think a shampoo after is necessary), soak for a while longer, the sink seemed small, so maybe buy a bowl and try it in the bowl in the bathroom. Also I’m thinking that you don’t just have buildup but maybe mold, (yea I know that sounds disgusting but remember that dreads have many strands of hair inside!) so with that I suggest no more air drying your locs or just towel blotting, blow dry every time your locs are in a clean and soaked state. Especially the length of dreads you have, it’s more prone to mold. Hope you try it and find a solution!

I had mad crazy love from co-workers at work. After two days of palm rubbing my hair started to dread to the point they was able to see. Is it just me but the lady's love a Man with locs? I had them turning heads with all types of smiles. A week ago they was like what the hell to what your name lol

To get a better clean with the ACV, don't dilute it with so much water next time. Also to prevent build up try making your own gel with flax seeds and aloe vera

YABOI PH .....soooo agree!!!! I don’t have locs, but I use liquid black soap in my hair because I go to the water everyday and the damage from the chlorine and constantly washing my hair in the shower, takes a toll to say the least. That black soap shampoo, I think it might be charcoal, really takes care of all the damage.

I Always use backing soda or Apple cider vinegar i never use shampoo it's bad for hair.

yeah but many professional told me that vinegar can be bad for your hair/scalp if you use it too much
sniperrrish well it cleanses really good so using it every couple days is gonna make your hair idk dry i guess. Use it every week or more.

I notice your hair gets messy at the roots since your locs don't go all the way to the roots, how many weeks do you usually go before you need to reloc aka retwist your hair? pro tip: I recommend buying a cubby that you can use to lay your head back on while you're laying down and washing your hair. (similar to what they use in barbershops) It's a lot more comfortable.

i use hot water and fresh lemons
@Teisha Misunderstood at one point i had a lot of buildup in my locs and the boiling lemon water removed the buildup and the smell. Now i do the lemon water rinse every 2 months and i found that black vanilla leave in conditioner from Carols Daughter keeps my hair from being dry. I sometimes use lemongrass oil and rose water, It took me a while but i finally found what works for my hair! If you do the lemon water rinse make sure you squeeze the lemons thru a strainer! One lemon will do and think of it as dipping braids! I fill my bathroom sink with the boiling water and dip closest to the roots as possible!

holy shyt!! ya I clean my hair with fresh lemons, CIT them in half and squeeze! also I do a little salt water rinse when I go to the beach!! that's how I freshin my hair.. does the acv stink...? my bf wouldn't want me to use it if it stinks

When I was 9 years old I wanted to cut my hair my father said no. Girls are suppose to have long hair. My hair was down to my waist, heavy and curly. So i went ahead and shaved it bald. My loctician takes about 20 mins to retwist my whole head with an hour under the dryer. It takes me 2-3 hours to retwist my own hair and about another 1-2 hours to dry with a blow dryer. Buuuut...I save $80 every two weeks so it up to you if it's worth it.

I dunno how I got here, I don't have dreads but here I am.. I just came to say that Dawn dish soap is used on animals to remove oil from spills so while I don't think washing your hair with it daily is wise it wouldn't kill it. Would strip all the oils though (both good and bad).
Also you're getting build up from daily life but also the product and not removing it completely.. I feel like that is the reason.
