I am his fan from Malaysia. He did it so well! listening to his British accent encourage me to learn more and practice more English. Plus, the moment that he say he choose agriculture and farming as his main subject, make me think this man is brilliant. Uplifting farmer among Asian country is rare yet very meaningful.

    Native soeaker from Australia here.
Interestingly his "accent" changed during the interview..so its clearly something he's been practicing but it isn't quite fully integrated yet. Also there are a few influences in there..a bit London a bit of Southern UK a bit of Australian influence too. Overall though if i close my eyes I'd say he was probably a Euorpean who'd lived in the UK for a long time. Good job!

He's multitasking coz he needs to translate from Indo to English in his head and then maintain the accent. That's usually the case when one is not a native speaker of a language. My opinion, tho.

Hello there. I am a British guy living in Bali now for 14 years and interestingly I have a BA Hons in Speech. His accent does have some British Characteristics, and his use of vocabulary at times is quite British ( He has a British turn of phrase ), but in terms of the Lilt ( the sing-song nature - the musicality ) of his accent, it is more Aussie. Overall he is an interesting character and his English is excellent, by the way. But it's a stretch to call it British. It sounds a bit Home Counties office worker vibe every now and again.

I don't really think pronounciation really matters honestly. I've been living for a year in Nottingham, England, and can't help but notice many Britons pronounce the exact same word differently. A British friend just told me yesterday, coming from London, she struggled to understand people in Nottingham talking bcs of their different pronounciations and slangs. So why highlighting an Indonesian who's never been to the UK for not pronouncing the words exactly as you know how they should sound, when the British themselves have different way to pronounce words? Come on! 😅

How impressive, I have been living in UK for nearly 16 years and I am working at local school as a Teaching Assistant but I haven't and I don't think I am going to have the British accent.
I have 2 boys 14 & 9 yo and their accent is British as they're born here, sometimes I don't get what they're saying. 😂 when I asked them to repeat what they're saying and they think I still don't get it, they will say "never mind Mom"😅 puyeng pala emak 😂 ( aksen Betawi mah ane bisa dah..pan waktu kecil dulu dikelilingi ma orang2 Betawi)
Nah waktu tinggal & kerja di Bali jadi manager Sogo selama 1 tahun, saya gak bisa ngomong ala orang Bali padahal staff nya orang Bali . 😅
Lidah kalo sudah dewasa umumnya sudah kaku sama aksen bahasa Ibu & lingkungan tinggal.

His accent I feel is closer to the southern counties in England, such as Hampshire and Dorset (more towards the eastern side of it), as opposed to a London accent where if you are familiar with the Jamaican way of saying things, you'll understand what I mean. Though if I met him in person I probably would've thought he was born and raised here.

What is an accent but simply the courage to speak? We could be given a thousand years to live to learn to speak just like them, but have you ever wondered why they spoke like that in the first place? As long as you are behind, you are a follower; an imitator. If you are in front, then you lead, and whatever you do is new. You are you, and whatever you do is still English, essentially.

The minute I listened to him talk, I know he must have lived in Australia with the derivative Cockney accent (London/South area). People who have never lived in the UK, wouldn’t know what British accent sounds like because there is NO Such thing as “British Accent”. You could listen to Scottish people talk, and you would never associate their accent with “British”. Geordy, Liverpudlian, Mancunian, Yorkshire, Brummie, they don’t talk like that, and it won’t be associated with a “British” accent for people who have never lived in the UK long enough to have their ear fully “trained”. So to say that this man speaks in “British accent” is very shallow, to say the least.

    • @squaredcircle2011
      @squaredcircle2011 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

It's just a broad term used to describe any accent from that particular region, by people who cannot name the specific accent. Everyone knows that there are regional accents within the UK, America, Australia and every other large country. If you were to hear an African speak English, and someone were to ask you where you thought the person's from, you might say they're from Africa because they have somewhat of an "African accent" but because you're not entirely sure which country specifically, you wouldn't be able to pinpoint the exact accent. The whole world loves the various accents from the UK, is it really that horrible to use the term "British accent"?

He actually sounded like some of the older generation Greek/Cypriots of London that I meet! If I closed my eyes, I would say the speaker had learnt English in England as their second language; the accent is unusual and changes a bit while he talks. To a native English speaker such as me, his accent is like nothing that exists anywhere in Britain. It sounds comical and forced.

I'm also confused as there is no British 🇬🇧 accent. There's many different accents that come from different parts of the three countries on the island 🏝️. There are many English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 accents and then there are Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and Welsh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 accents by the fact they choose to continue speaking our language but there's no single British 🇬🇧 accent.

Oh wow, this is actually pretty huge. The average Javanese have a very VERY heavy and thick accent, especially when compared to the other accents in the country. They're basically the Scottish of Indonesia. And that also means that the accent + English isn't the best combination as it can make it a bit hard to understand them. But this man managed to be almost completely full on English accent. That's really cool!
Also, this by no means I'm making fun/trying to demotivate Javanese/anyone with thick accent from learning English. The fact that you guys are learning it is already a really good thing. Remember, Prophet Muhammad said to keep learning. So don't stop learning it. Much love from a half breed (Sunda/Jawa) who grow up and lives in Depok ❤️

generally people who speak English in Indonesia either with local or american/canadian accent. so to hear an Indoensian speak with so called Brits accent make them amazed. i've never been to UK at all but i caught real Brits use various accents, e.g. Jamie Oliver vs Daniel Craig vs heston Blumenthal.

I also know someone else, a guy from England who is married to an Indonesian and she also has a british accent when she speaks English.
