    Great video Doc! Agreed, Shiro doesn't look great in this comparison.

    I bought one because of Nick's review and mine didn't have the voids in the carbon fiber. However my spare parts did not include a spare pocket clip so I sent an email to CKF's customer service and received one in 3 days. I would suggest you request new scales for the one in hand. This knife is a work of art.

    I always wanted a Shiro but man they're just out of my price range so I have a CKF Makosha in route I picked up on the secondary market for only two bills preowned with all the original stuff should be here this week and I'm super excited to get it in hand. Awesome video thank you for confirming my decision!

    Really excellent how they give you spares for all the small parts of the knife. And even included extra overlay scales on this one. It's really going above and beyond.

    Stunning knife, one of my absolute favorites in quite some time. One way or another I will eventually own this knife. Not entirely sure about the history or reasons behind it, but Russian knife-makers know how to create the most aesthetically amazing knives in the Community, bar none.

    That’s an unbelievable value compared to Shiro. I was always “meh” about CKF but this vid really put them on my radar

    Super cool knife, very impressive. I just ordered up a CKF “Switch” Knife colab with Tuff Knives Geoff B. I’m hoping it looks and feels as awesome as Eugene K says it is in his review of the Switch Knife. Great video, love your channel been with you from the start..

    I'll have to check Nick's review. I respect his opinion as much as yours. Oh, and that Subvert. I don't know why, but it has grabbed my attention and not just because of the bright Orange.

    It's nice the extra bearings they give you are captured. Their proprietary 3-row bearings it comes with may be smooth, but they're a serious pain to deal with.

    • @cyphersuit1
      @cyphersuit1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why is that?

    • @mikehoedle5276
      @mikehoedle5276 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I picked one of these up I also bought a 100 count of backup ceramic bearings (for something like $12), because I knew I'd lose one or two here and there throughout the years of maintenance. They're 1.588mm and really easy to find online. Yeah, if you're not an experienced disassembler it can be a chore, but once you do it a few times it's easy enough to deal with.

    Awwww man.... I wish CKF didn’t do such short runs. I know it’s for collectibility, but dang it, as soon as I decide to save up for one, they’re gone...

    • @Stahlwerk88
      @Stahlwerk88 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The irony being that with all the extra screws, clips, scales, bearings, etc they provide with each knife, they could just as easily have doubled the size of each production run instead, haha. Otherwise, I feel your pain. I don’t own any CKF knives for the same reason that, as soon as I get the money together for one I like, it’s already been discontinued for six months... bummer.

    Really looks like a nice piece. It has some aesthetic similarity to the ZT 470.

    You should definitely contact them about the voids, they have excellent customer service from my experience and I’d imagine they’d send new ones out

    Great review. Thanks! In part based on it, I just got a Sukhoi 3. Everything you said, holds true for mine, apart from the problem, fortunately. But now I need to decide whether I’ll keep it. My problem is that between my Shiro F3R and Sander Barbus, I have a lot of what this knife offers. I’m not giving up my F3R, so I have to determine whether I’d really ever carry the Sukhoi over those knives.
    It absolutely is great for the price. What a blade! And that zirc/Ti backspacer! And I’ve never seen a lockbar reflected with such elegant symmetry on the show scale. Great construction. Impressive action. There‘s really a lot to like here.

    12:00 I really, really like that handle design. That 'wave' work at the bottom of the handle (detailed at 7:14) is beautiful. EDIT: The size? I like large folders.

    The one I got had unfinished CF milling, scratches all over the place, and voids like nobody's business. Sucks that everyone else is apparently getting great examples, because mine was ass. Wanted to love it so badly.

  • @Mrredness

    The backspacer is just gorgeous and how good is the sound on deploying the blade hitting the cf stop pin, never heard anything like it

    Manufactured in china by Kevin John, a well known cloner. marbled carbon fiber will ALWAYS have voids. its near impossible to avoid it. you can fill them in with epoxy and cf dust, but... it will have many voids under the surface. so while your suggesting voids are bad, indeed they are, marbled cf will always have voids. if you have regular cf with voids that is low quality cf.
    the mrbs iirc is bought from the guy who makes the shiro mrbs system. i believe you can read it on the CKF website. or just ask CKF for the info.
    i do want this model, but not for 455. if it were 300-350 id buy one. but not for 400+

  • @praetor47
    @praetor47 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    oh man... how i wish they did an 3.5 or something at ~3.5" (and 8-8,5 total) 'cause this is just too big for me. truly excellent work and great review. you got yourself a new subscriber! :)
    fakedit: would the Holt Spectre or a Cherbukov (scout? mini russkiy?) fit those specs?

  • @4ta023
    @4ta023 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love mine, the only thing I didn't like was the tip of the carbon fiber at the end of the handle, its not lined up very well and sticks out with very slight small sharp points instead of lining up with the titanium section a little better, could have been a little more seamless. Other than that its an amazing knife for the cost.

    Russians love them some big knives, don't they? The blade is gorgeous, I have to say the Shiro is nice, but it's not top 10 for any production I've owned knife. Happy this one started at a more realistic price point than some in the past, the amount of parts is borderline nuts. The milling lines on the CF is really nice, but the gaps are _so_ 2016. I definitely prefer the overall lines of the 3.0, the previous one's blade shape was a bit off. Shiro is top $ for a production knife, certainly. If budget was a concern, I'd grab one! The CKF SSE was a miss, but this certainly looks like they nailed it.
    [edit] almost forgot, I see #150 on the blade, is this a run of 500, 250 or?
