@hankkingsley9300 - I disagree. Growing up I watched and rooted for both the Yankees and Mets. I am a Mets fan. Always have been. But I always loved watching baseball. So in 1970 watching baseball on channel 9 and channel 11. I would go back and forth. I would listen to Mets and Yankees games on the radio all the time when they weren't on television. So I knew as much about the Yankees team as I did about my beloved Mets. Honestly and truthfully, I thought it was really healthy. It wasn't until sportstalk radio that I decided that being a Mets fan was a better option. Because Yankees fans felt entitled. That wasn't the way I felt. They were a great team with great history but entitled. Nah...I liked being a Mets fan.

I love the original version as the best theme song in baseball. Yanks have a good one too but this is such an upbeat positive song that's got a great melody line , great composition, and notice what I think is a banjo or uke. It plays rhythm and is a rather complex part that drives the rhythm and cheer of the song. This is no run of the mill theme/fight song. The lyrics are of an older era yet still are inviting to everyone and positive. Cheers and as always "let's go Mets!!!"
Aesthetically, the original version is going to stand the test of time as the Classic, catering to kids to sing along, most "Mr Met-like", gateway to lifelong Mets fandom. The '80s version is kind of cheesy, super 80s style; it can only be appreciated, considered a favorite, if you loved the '86 team and their brash energy, listening to and watching the games, going to Shea then. That version was everywhere in 80s, into the 90s; so for me and most other Gen X diehard fans, growing up in the 80s, that version brings all the feels, a slice of our lives that we'll never forget.

Unfortunately, the 1975 instrumental and vocal versions weren't inluded on the original CD titled, "Meet The Mets. The Official Song Of The New York Mets", pictured above. That CD only features the four versions that I listed. I adjusted the audio levels to balance each song (the Jane Jarvis version was way too loud), then joined the individual tracks to make a continuous medley. If the 1975 versions were on the original CD, I definitely would have included them. Proud to say I've been a Mets fan since 1962. I suffered through all the early Polo Grounds/Shea Stadium years. Then 1969 arrived !!!
I do recall that CD. It was a giveaway-night at the old, Shea Stadium, in September, in the late, 1990s. I didn't go to that game and was disappointed that I couldn't get the CD. Of course, that was long before You Tube and people like yourself, who are good enough to upload that on to here! 😀👍 But, I didn't know the 1975 versions were not included....
