    Excellent explanation of coil splitting. Alot of people confuse coil splitting for coil tapping... in further detail, a coil split is grounding the signal at the start or finish of one coil keeping the other one "on." Usually the south coil gets grounded while the North coil remains active. And since the pickup using still in phase, the hum is still canceled. So its got the single coil type sound without the noise.

    • @Juanter
      @Juanter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the case of this pickup since it's two hotrails it pretty much just turns one of the hotrails off and you get no actual coil splitting lmao

    I have seen these on eBay but past over them thinking how crazy 18K. But now having heard your review I definitely want a couple of these! Thanks for the review. The link to the wiring diagram that you put in one of your replies is no longer valid if you have a new link I would appreciate your posting it. Thanks again.

    These are great pickups for the money, way better than I expected. I put mine in the bridge position. I'm going to add the dual rail humbucker by Fleor into the neck position and add new push pull pots to split both pickups. More rails... more metal!!

    • @Juanter

      Indeed, people like to put cheap pickups down but you can get really great sounds for cheap nowadays

    I used this humbucker for many years, but then I decided to switch to a custom one from a well-known local master and I was disappointed. Therefore, I want to put back the four-rail, although it costs 10 times less than branded ones.

    Got mine through musiclilly for the bridge spot = killer. Also have switches for phase reverse and in series/parallel with hot humbucker bridge.
    Bass can can lose some calrity dependgn on effects selections, but my bridge tone has a tone cutout switch also, so with both pickups selected I can always fix tht up as wanted. I can go from death metal to mellow jazz, what with effects.
    Best bargain ever and the first on one of fhtree different cheap quads that acted right.

    • @Juanter
      @Juanter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is certainly a great pickup and more than just a metal monster, as you say with the different wiring options you can get a lot of tones out of this one

    That sounds awesome! I actually just dropped my guitar off at Guitar Center and told them to install the quad rail for the neck pickup since the Black Winter pickup sounds awesome at the bridge.
    Edit: I got it back today, and the quad rail in the neck position sounds exactly like the S/D bridge pickup.

    about the screws: the "normal" thicker ones are M3 (3mm diameter), while the others are M2 (2mm diameter). Not so uncommon, they are present in kind of like 30-40% of the humbucker-equipped guitars.

    I have a specific issue with my quad-rail, which is the same one you show: While hot waxing it, the middle magnet fell. In the hurry, I put it back, but now I am doubting if I put it correctly and not out-of-phase. (It snapped in pretty tight, I have hard time to remove it ). Any tip on what is the correct position for the middle magnet, or how I can verify it is ok (I do have a compass I can test with)

    • @Juanter
      @Juanter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well, they are different beasts really, the MusicOne Dimebucker copies were just straight up high gain metal, really nice gain management without being fuzzy or spiky, the FLEOR humbucker is the one i'd say is better, really nice sound, versatile as hell and really nice sounding coil split. This is definitely the hotter, if have a guitar that won't chug, it will with this, it sounds great for metal but it has the versatility of being two humbuckers in one basically. Depending on the osunds you want
