Problem is that for past 12 years DX09 was "the best" to the point that a lot of folks who even were not into 1/6 used pictures of DX09 when taking about Keaton instead of actual Keaton. Now ppl complain that new cowl (which is more accurate) does not look like DX09 😂
I must be crazy, but I prefer the head and face on the new one. The cowl is all wrong on the old one and it ruins it for me, regardless of the mouth sculpt.
The community is right for “making a big deal” about the suit texture because it’s COMPLETELY inaccurate to the film. They even added more texture from the prototype. But don’t worry they’ll fix it on the 3.0 in a few years. 🤣🤣🤣
MMS693 looks fantastic. Fun fact walked into a comic bookstore 12 years ago......DX09 and Snake Eyes on display. I am a Batman freak but ended up buying SnakeEyes on the account of articulation. This is one where patience paid off ahahahahahhaha kidding aside both are dope paired with the Batmobile.
Wow baby...I am all about head sculpts. So, I am torn on this one. I may have to just buy both now. That DX09 may actually become a super grail now!!! Talk about an Ancient Action Figure....
The new bloodied face plate is the only one on the new figure that legit looks like Keaton. Couple that with the eyes looking left or right and you're onto a winner.
I really feel like the face sculpts are the same, but it’s as if they stretched out the new one, making them wider because the new cowl was wider and that caused it to look less like Keaton. Hard to explain but the lips and everything looked the same, the new one is just stretched wider. No excuse for the texture (not sure why they went that route) body seems wider/thicker on the new one as well.
The face plate is definitely better on DX09 but the cowl shape on the 2.0 is more accurate. The DX09 cowl looks fine but it's too square, too tall, and the eye openings are the wrong shape. Also, if you look at side profiles of both figures' cowls, you'll see improved details.
You're right about the DX09 cowl. The side of the neck is same width as the top side. I believe the neck should be wider as it blends to the shoulders.

Funny enough, after having just watched Mr Mom's collectibles comparison, it looks like DX09's cowl is a little shorter. Of course, I'm being highly scrutinizing here. The DX09 cowl is a nice sculpt but the 2.0 improved on it noticeably. Now if we can just get better face plates. I hear Unreal Toys is working on one.

The '89 cowl was not as sharp and angular as you seem to believe. The DX09 isn't bad by any means but the 2.0 is better. Neither are perfect. The 2.0 needs more work around the nose and brows as does the DX09. Both of their face plates need improvement but DX09 is better. If you don't believe me, go watch Mr Mom Collectibles' comparison video. He does a side by side between the two figures and a picture of Keaton wearing the cowl. You'll very clearly see the 2.0 is closer. Sorry, but you and Brother Cousin are wrong on this one.
@ron5545 Look, the fact is. I don't give a FLYING F/^K about exact film accuracy casts. All I care about is how each & every iconic object was portrayed on film & I'm sure most avid '89 fans would agree. The cowl was always in the shadows in the film & his eyes were never seen due to how set back they were, plus the extreme shadowing. This is clearly evident in the DX-09. If you pose it with decent lighting, it shows the angles of the cowl (too sharp maybe) that were seen on film. The new 2.0 eyes are NOT set back therefore all the shadowing look of the cowl is lost. The mouth plates are TRULY ATROCIOUS & the eyes look nothing like Keaton. Don't ask me why but Keaton's eyes look greeny brown in the '89 film & the DX-09 nailed his eyes. The 2.0 is a horrific piece with the bugs bunny teeth looking more like Kilmer in the cowl. Go watch the film 3 times again. Look & take screenshots of the Keaton cowl in the shadows & you'll see it looks ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LIKE THE FILM. The only thing that is better on the 2.0 is the Cape, the articulation, & the utility belt design. I'm sorry, but the emblem is too small on the 2.0. Yes the tail is more accurate but the emblems black borders are too thick & there's not enough yellow in the emblem. When paying nearly $300 now for a new figure in which the original one is overc12 years old & looks amazing, you should expect the new one to destroy the old one on ALL LEVELS. But Hot Toys cheapened out again on old 80's movies, employing rubbish artists & proving they only care about attention to detail when it comes to modern DC, MARVEL & STAR WARS figures. Mr. Mom's collectibles which I watched twice, only shows the cowl comparison from side on. How about from front on...HIDEOUS 2.0
I'm totally happy with my DX09 but this is a brand new 2024 figure and I want it in my collection. That diorama base is the icing on top. That is the main reason I want this but on top of that it's Keaton Batman. 89 Batman is my childhood and it's 89 Batman so I definitely want it 😂😂😂💯💯💯💯🦇🦇🦇🦇🃏🃏🃏
My same thoughts "BrotherCousin!". I'm keeping my "HT DX-09".....because it looks SO MUCH LIKE MICHAEL KEATON! I do like the "more articulation" in the new re-release of the "89" HT MMS692 and your 693" . I'm going to wait awhile and see if I can find the "diorama base with the gargoyle" to add to my "HT DX-09!"....sort of a lite up-grade to this AWESOME "HT DX-09!!!". Put the new cape on the DX09 and you have a Winner (although it looks a bit short to me). The cowl + emblem on the MMS693 is an improvement but imho everything else looks better on the DX09. Also, Keaton is a small guy and the shorter height of the DX09 looks more accurate. A bit strange that the belt sits so high on the MMS693, revealing more of the body plate seam. Kind of sloppy and makes him appear even taller. Both figures have the wrong shade of yellow for the belt so that's a draw.
We have to get out of the mindset of "if somethings new it's better". This applies to figures, and it most certainly applies to music, movies, books, comics.. It's simple, the DX09 artist did a much better job with the portrait. Now whether this is because they're a better artist, or that Hot Toys gave them more time to iterate, who knows? But Hot Toys struck gold with the DX09 sculpt, whenever I see its side profile my minds ear always says "shields".

Will they though? It'll be better but they'll get another one or two things wrong to then justify a 4.0.

While the likeness still seems better, the new one really does point out how squished the face is on the dx09.

Are the V2's belt "capsules" spaced equally? I think the left capsule is near the buckle while the opposite is further to the right?
They can slide on the belt from I’ve seen in other reviews.

Your cowl take is COMPLETELY WRONG. DX-09 is already proven movie accurate. 2.0 is way too thin & not sharp or angular enough. 2.0 is HIDEOUS.
