in my headcanon it’s like a spider-verse thing where if you lose one (peter parker and barry), the universe will correct itself and create a new one (miles morales and wally west) with similar “canon events”
@@epicdogeplaysthat is how the flash works but with one difference. That difference might explain this. Memories can pass via the speed force. When Barry is possessed his mind is sent to the speed force. But a speedster can posses a speedster. So Barry could be dead and his mind is mixing with Wally. That makes it kinda like reincarnation like the hawks
@@maxalaintwo3578 The thing is, there were definitely costumed heroes active before Batman in the DCAU: Doctor Fate, El Diablo, Spy Smasher, probably Wildcat... so that's kind of a moot point, whether Barry was ever the Flash or not.
@@davebrown2056 Doctor Fate sort of has a primordial role though. And El Diablo and Wildcat aren't superpowered (at least not much,) so the escalation of stakes still doesn't occur after Superman
I like the idea that barry was canon and just erased himself from exsistance, due to causing time paradoxs. Maybe this could have been explored if we've gotten a FlashTAS starring wally.
that or Barry being around before Bruce was Batman, then Wally wearing his suit just made people think they were the same guy (that or Bruce still knows but just doesn't say anything).
This can explain the personality. Dead speedsters minds return to the speedforce. So his mind could have mixed with Wally. In a sudo reincarnation. Thus some personality traits pass on. And why Wally works at the crime lab is he feels something is off
Maybe it’s a Spider-Gwen situation, where Wally got the lightning+chemicals treatment INSTEAD of Barry, hence Barry remains an ordinary forensic scientist.
I mean, it kind of seems like that is essentially what happened with Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner in STAS. Kyle just happened to be closer when Abin Sur died in the DCAU, so despite knowing Hal Jordan is real in the DCAU due to his name being visible on a fighter jet in the Kyle Rayner STAS episode, he never got the ring.
Headcanon: Barry fought Thawne to the end of time and instead of becoming the bolt of lightning that made him the Flash he and Thawne became the bolt that chose a new Flash(Wally West) while also erasing them from existence and memory. Wally was a huge flash fan but with Barry being erased Wally is only subconsciously inspired by him and basically lives the same life he once did. Idk terrible explanation but ya lol nice video!
I like the idea of Barry predating Wally as the Flash because I love both of them and having Barry exist, even if he's dead, really helps make this Earth seem more developed and gives you feeling of a longer history than what he got to see
I like Barry being in the DCAU because it adds a level of tragedy to his character and gives him a nice little bit of extra emotional connection with Batman.
"He is _gone_ now, this _Flash..._ Barry Allen... gone saving more than one universe from more than certain doom... he has died fighting for what he believed in... and thus he died... without regret. Though his death is unknown to all but one, he will be _mourned..._ trust us, he _will_ be mourned." - Crisis on Infinite Earths #11
Love the idea that there was a Crisis or Flash/Reverse Flash battle that took Barry out of canon, for all intents and purposes. In this iteration of the world, Wally was just always the Flash. Or, like in New 52/Rebirth (where everyone forgot Wally West) everyone has simply forgotten Barry. It’s kind of sad.
I think in the end, I think it’s just nice for Wally to get some recognition out there at such an early time for a lot of kids watching comic shows. It gives them a different flash to admire and can lead them to wanting to see him and the other flashes.
That doesn't work. Because before they never stated the Flash's name. So this might be the first time his name is mentioned? And he hadn't cartoons since like superfriends or his solo shorts. So any flash before wouldn't have gotten much exposure.
I really love the idea of Barry Allen in the DCAU, I’m personally a Wally fan myself but looking into extended lore and storytelling is a huge passion of mine. This is definitely a binge worthy channel and I can’t wait to watch more of this channel. Greta video good job. Love the work!
I like to think Wally is probably about the same age as Nightwing, and was Kid Flash in his mid to late teens around the same time as Dick was Robin in the BTAS era.
Would be nice if MAX cancels YJ and brings back a couple of final seasons of DCAMU with maybe a season long arc of Crisis then leading into a season long One Minute War arc. I would subscribe to Max in a NY minute for that. Though they'd need to find a good sound-a-like voice actor for Bats.
@@phatmantv Nah, we need YJ it's some of the best DCAS's outside of the DCAU, it would be cool ngl if we see a DCAU Flash Movie, that briefly shows Jay and touches on Barry a lil bit through out it. But we are ofc getting a Crisis movie next year so who knows since it is Crisis, they will defo bring heroes from through out the Multiverse and maybe in it we see DCAU Barry before his death, and we get his death in the movie running on the treadmill.
@@omega9270 I agree, i we need a lot more YJ content the stuff they are doing with Vandal Savage makes the character more threatening, and has done him in a way better way than any projects ever, and his deal with Darkseid wow is that fucking good. But i agree we need a DCAU Flash movie etc.
@@phatmantv Yeah, it defo needs a Trilogy to succeed in the best way possible, also i treat them equally since they're some of the best DC content we've ever had, and since DCAU's TV Side is long ended i'd say keep Young Justice going and let DCAU have more movies imo. James Gunn treats those as Else Word stories.
I always thought that Barry existed in dcau continuity only as "Wally's uncle" and that kid flash's costume from the museum belonged to impuls, who's just around there. We could see him in that teaser to Justice League series so clearly someone from the production team wanted him to be in this universe, plus impuls was a kid flash for a brief period of time in the major comic continuity.
Remember how Flash almost got lost in the Speed Force in the Unlimited season 1 fight? Maybe Barry also got lost in the Speed Force and it messed with reality a little? I dunno. Just a random idea that popped into my head at 23:50
Fun fact: one of the gravestones actually says the name "Jay" in the justice society episode, so, yes, the streak is basically confirmed to be Jay. I love the idea of Barry having been a thing, having been the Flash before Wally. It would help explain why Wally goes so far for everyone, he's trying to fill Barry's shoes but doesn't feel like he ever can.
I always figured Jay and Barry were already secret speedsters pre Batman, that already hung up their boots and cowl by the time Superman and Wally appeared.
Honestly, I really like the idea that Wally just took up the mantle and mostly wasn't letting people know that there was a change of hero. Nobody knew that Barry had died because neither of them wanted people to think that their hero could be killed.
@@animehair05silently88Probably, if Wally was Flash in the main universe then they probably would’ve had that stick for the Justice Lords universe, and in the show itself from what I remember seeing in J’s Reviews’ video on JL Season 2 (I still haven’t watched the show because I’m terrible about procrastinating for no reason), I think Lords GL and Hawkgirl talked about Flash in a way that sounded like Wally by saying it feels like any second he’d zip in and joke around or something which is more of a Wally thing then Barry (despite what some writers might have you believe) since Barry’s sense of humor is more of a dad humor thing, saying stuff like “back in a flash” while Wally’s humor is maybe more along the lines of Spider-Man I guess, plus there’s also when Flash tricked Lords Batman into thinking his heart stopped and he was dying making Lords Batman freak out and free him in a panic which he might not have gotten a reaction out of Lords Batman like that if his Flash was Barry, if the main Batman could figure out Flash was Wally then I’m sure Lords Batman could do the same so if Barry had been Flash in that universe then Lords Batman might not have cared as much if he knew Flash wasn’t the same Flash he knew and that he and the League went evil over his death
@@LucasHopkins2006 I think they would have cared just as much because they didn't care that it was "wally/berry" it was this universe's flash So I like the idea that both universe's berry died but the other universe didn't have a wally to step up and fill the void and maby thier berry was killed and other made a sacrifice. It would also explain why batman stops wally from sacrificing himself later on not wanting to go through that again
I really like the idea of Barry existing in the DCAU. It gives a sense of history and depth to the universe. Even if I also prefer Wally to Barry overall.
Tbh I kinda like the idea that Barry and Thawn did have some big fight prior to the DCAU proper that retroactively erased their existence, so people only remember Jay and then Wally (or just Wally if we’re being super canon here)
If it helps to prevent your impending aneurysm: Impulse did change his name (and costume) to Kid Flash in the comic books around 2005. There's really no reason he couldn't have done the same in the DCAU.
Another great vid! I like the idea of Barry being there but I think it'd be fine if he wasn't, or if he was but got erased and changed the timeline slightly.
My particular head canon is that since the heroes didn't really know each other that well until de JL cartoon, Barry could have existed and died saving the universe, but nobody mentions him because nobody knows there are two separate Flashes (except Batman, of course, but he doesn't mention it out of respect).
It would be nice to know with certainty if Barry did officially exist at some point in the DCAU's history, but I guess when you love and enjoy Wally's Flash that much you never really have to think too hard about it if the JL series itself doesn't. Like with a lot of the DC heroes the STAS episode "Speed Demons" was one of my earliest introductions to Flash as a 90s kid who couldn't have the most access to the actual comics at the time, and apparently it was always Wally in that episode anyway, but then it's always interesting to learn about the characters who had carried the same mantle in comics prior. Revisiting the 1990s live-action series of The Flash for the first time in recent years I have to admit I wasn't immediately used to seeing a more mature Flash after such a long time of knowing Flash as our loveable goof Wally in the DCAU, but then you can't exactly say that "Barry's Flash is always more serious" after some of the stuff Ezra Miller's Barry does in the new Flash movie (his younger self in particular).
I like the idea of Barry existing and having Wally as Kid Flash and then Barry and Thawne fight and end up being erased from existence with Wally witnessing this, then the universe semi-restarts with the universe itself making up for Barry missing by combining elements of Wally and Barry together and lastly Wally is the only one who remembers Barry and continues on as the Flash in this new continuity.
QOTD: I love the idea of Barry Allen in the DCAU! I honestly believe there was a CoIE in the DCAU and things like Hal switching in for John, or the hints of other Flashes. My headcanon is that the CoIE happened after BTAS (explaining why suits and such changed and fixing the Robin timeline issue), and that similar to what happened in Rebirth that the constant time traveling in JL-JLU caused some pre-Crisis stuff to "come back" and memories of things that couldn't have happened in post-Crisis continuity exist because of cracks in Hypertime. Also Red Hood is now a thing... thanks, Crisis!
I personally like the idea of Barry existing It fleshes out the universe that there are heroes out there who came to be and fell Plus it adds a bit to Wally
I definitely like the idea of Barry being in the DCAU, even if it's just bread crumbs here and there to get fans wondering. Wally's reaction to Batman's "death" seems like a good indicator that Wally DID lose someone, most likely being Barry
I don't mind that Barry has been unseen in the DCAU. The universe worked best with their own unique continuity. Just like how Tim was a Tim/Jason hybrid well before btac.
I like the idea that Barry existed in the background, and that Batman saw him in the same light that he does in the DCAMU. Impressed by his fast and efficient work in Central City, so he holds Wally to that same standard on the JL team. Great video guys!
I like the idea of Barry existing, cuz its very wholesome imaging him training Wally on how to become Flash kind of like a father figure to Wally, teaching a kid to ride a bike
i think that instead of a version of the Crisis, maybe the DCAU had his own version of the Zero Hour event instead, that also would explain the absence of Hal Jordan,Hal was possessed by Paralax tried to use all Green Lantern corp powers to went back to the beggining of time and rewrite reality, but in this version, Barry sacrifice himself and trapped Hal and Paralax outside of time using the speed force, since they were pulled out of time, the timeline self rewriten as this characters never existed since they are outside of time, that would explain why Jonh became Hal for a short period of time when Chronus was messing with the time, maybe weakning his prison, and later when Wally does the Infinite Mass Punch to defeat Lex and vanish into the speed force, could be Barry inside of the speed force helping him come back making a rift so the League could pull him back into reality(and also the explanation of why only Wally remembers him) ,and we could use this to explain all that inconsistent comics and products of JL and JLU,maybe they happen before this version of Zero Hour happen and the cartoons are the rewriten timeline???
Great theory. Just going to point out that Parallax was retconned into being a separate entity after the nature of GL's powers were changed from "whatever the wielder wants, but it can't affect wood/yellow" to "turning the light of willpower into tangible objects or energy beams and flying really fast", meaning no time travel and Zero Hour doesn't actually work. But I like the theory.
@@samueldimmock694It doesn’t make much sense to say Zero Hour doesn’t work because of the Parallax retcon when the book that make that retcon in no implied that was the case. Zero Hour was still very much canon after the Parallax retcon. Also, it's not like Hal as Parallax singlehandlely rewrote reality to his liking, he did it with the help of Extant, who also have vaguely defined reality warping powers. And I reckon that, in the build up to Zero Hour, there were several scenes or Parallax and/or Extant killing time travelers and stealing their powers, so what you're saying about Parallax didn't really aply in the first place.
@@pedrovallefin8406 Okay, maybe I was wrong. I didn't actually read Zero Hour, so I shouldn't have been so confident. My bad. But saying "zero hour still works after the retcon because it's still canonical after the retcon" doesn't seem like a good argument to me. It implies that comics never have plot holes, which is not really how comics work.
@@samueldimmock694 To be completely honest, I read Zero Hour so long ago that I can't be certain of what I said either, I speaking out of pure memory alone. But what I meant wasn't that "Zero Hour still works after the retcon because it’s still canon". The entire point of the Parallax retcon was to handwave Hal's crimes away by putting blame on a separate entity. It would be too blatant a plot hole if the retcon make the events it's trying to clear Hal off imposible to happen in the first place. For all his faults, most of Johns's good work (meaning, the pre-New 52 books) are build on past continuity and his run in Gl in particular is cemented by connecting several unrelated events of previous Gl stories together. Like Eon, who along with Parallax and the other emotional spectrum entities, are so over-powered in part to justify Zero Hour. Of course, I would have to reread Gl Rebirth and Zero Hour to be sure of what im saying since that was also a long time ago, but eh. That's a little too much reading just to answer a TH-cam coment. But I thought I should mention it anyways, just to clarify things.
I like the idea of Barry just being his uncle and living a normal life with Iris. I also like the idea of Barry being erased from everyone’s mind in the speedforce kinda like they did Wally in the comics
Always been more of a Wally West fan, but if Barry did exist than I’m more than fine with it. Especially since that would mean that Wally wore that awesome Kid Flash outfit
I do like Barry being this behind the scenes character that could have existed. It adds a depth to the world that makes it feel like things have been happening before we start the show, and will keep happening once it’s over.
I like Barry being canon, honestly I was always on board with him being in STAS and dying in between for Wally to become Flash in Justice League. Awesome video James!
I don't think this is the case in most media, but in my head it would make sense that even in an endless multiverse, each individual universe has their own diverging timelines (back to the future style). So maybe the DCAU's supplemental materials that don't quite fit into what we saw on screen are actually just different timelines where events are just *slightly* different.
Personally my favorite flash is Wally so I’m beyond okay with him just being the flash, but I love the idea that either Barry retired and doesn’t want to deal with it anymore or that he died as it builds more character for Wally
I think it's cool that Barry could've existed. I like the idea of Pre Crisis versions of the DCAU. Like OG Black Canary, Red Tornado, Barry, and Hal were all on that team or something.
I always thought that the reason why Barry doesn’t show up in the DCAU once is because Barry stays dead after the dcau’s version of crisis on infinite earth.
I still think Barry Allen being the Flash from the Superman cartoon makes sense. I like to think he sadly died between STAS and the JLU Series, with Wally taking over as the Flash.
If Barry was the original flash and Wally fought alongside batman with him, it would explain why batman is so protective of flash. slightly different than his relationship with robin, he's more of an uncle or godfather.
I really hope you guys see this comment, because this joke you did at 1:54 was too relevant to me. Let me explain: Recently I got sick and passed most of my time binging this channel and also re-watching Justice League (thanks to this channel making me want to). When I grew too tired though due to my sickness, I'd have plenty of nights and naps where I deliriously rolled around trying to sleep -- you know how it is -- and the two things I found myself listening to to try lulling me to sleep were a TH-cam video of calming ocean sounds, or albums of one of my favorite bands, Rammstein! So now seeing this joke about "soothing, sleepy sounds", Rammstein, and on this channel... it's like it was written specifically for me a couple weeks ago. Anyways, thanks for reading, and thanks for all the entertaining content.
I like the idea of Barry originally being the flash but due to events with the reverse flash messing up all of the cannon he can only exist inside the speed force which is outside of time. Lets say he arranged events so that wally would fill his place with his csi job and the mantle as the flash. The reverse flash and barry tampering with the timeline explains why this video was so hard to make.
What if no one knew flash’ identity because he just started being a hero.(Barry Allen flash). But then Wally teamed up with the flash as kid flash and very shortly Barry’s flash died. So Wally then took the mantle of flash before anyone noticed Barry Allen’s flash died. So that way it looks like the flash didn’t die (people wouldn’t lose hope). It would explain why no one talks about Barry Allen as the flash in the animated series.
My headcanon, based on nothing in the actual DCAU but more on the comics, is that Barry retired to the Legion time period (30th or 31st century, whatever it is on a given Tuesday) with Iris after some battle with Thawne had him wind up there. From there he left Central City to Wally (possibly originally from Keystone City like the comics, but it's not important if he is). Wally, not feeling totally worthy of taking Barry's position (despite his boasting), continued to operate as if the original Flash never left which is why he was so protective of his Secret Identity even up until Starcrossed. It'd help nicely tie together some non-quite-canon by DCAU adjacent stuff like Earth-12 and Jay's appearance in the tie-in comics, since Wally's trying to pass himself off as Barry to people who don't know them so it going from Jay to him as the second Flash works there, and Barry wouldn't be in the Speed Force yet by the Beyond time period if he's still alive 1000 years in the future. Plus it ties into Impulse's original, where Barry had kids in the future and his son had Bart who traveled back in time to be helped by Wally. Just fun little idea for where Barry could be (and how he could show up for the Flash Museum opening through time travel).
What if Reverse Flash actually drained Barry to the Speedforce or erased him from history, so that's why no one remembrts him and there is no hint that proves he ever existed, but Wally remembers because of his connection to the Speedforce ?
i used to roleplay specifically this version of the flash/wally back in early 2014, and i had this very same conundrum when attempting to connect the pieces together. it really boils down to the overarching theme of a barry-wally fusion, as like you mentioned, there's quite a few DCAU cartoon characters who get this treatment, something completely unique to the DCAU that actually gives it some charm. (just don't ask what marvel and DC were doing in april of 1996.) as a result - i simply boiled down to what i liked for "flash" rather than "wally", and just gave barry allen a normal life with iris, and the note that he was someone wally greatly adored, thus privy to his flashy secret (that throwaway 'uncle' line.) i did comb through pretty much every piece of available DCAU and tangentially adjacent media at the time, and came to the conclusion yeah, there's just too much in the tie-in comics that throw out what the cartoon had previously established, it was more trying to sell the overall idea to both barry AND wally fans but SEPARATELY. every one of these tie-in comics seemed very focused on 'how much of the mainline DC timeline can we sneak in here to try and merge the comic's relevance into the cartoon', such as characters like kon-el showing up for a day only to be mysteriously wiped from the timeline (though there is an unused design somewhere for a STAS 90's kon-el, if my memory serves me right) you can even see this in a more recent "we are definitely b:tas continuity" run where they ... just straight up said jason todd existed separately from tim to sort of... squeeze the element of death in the family trauma ... that was already present in tim's story? speaking of, the beyond comics are also super notorious for this. at some point it really becomes less coherent and more corporate saying "oooh, look, we're dangling your fave in front of you like a shiny set of keys." your video really gave me some new thoughts that i probably agree with more than the beliefs about it i held over a decade ago, though, and i'm so happy that someone else has finally recognized how absolutely horrendous it is to explain!
I Personally Think That Thawne Is Responsible For Barry's Absence, Like, Thawne Actually Managed To Succeed In Erasing Him, Which Caused Everyone To Forget He Ever Existed, Minus Wally (Due To His Connection To The Speed Force), Who Changed From His Kid Flash Suit To A Mimic Of Barry's Suit, In Honor Of His Fallen Friend/Mentor But Ehh
I have always just felt like they made Wally that universe's only Flash and I was always good with that. Having Barry just forces the need for so much more explanation that the universe doesn't need
It's astonishing to see all these people in the comments talking about Wally as the "lesser-known" Flash. Wally was the Flash for more than twenty years. His name was used for every adaptation of the character in that time. Even when the comics did multiverse shenanigans, Wally was always the name of their Flash. Barry has only resurfaced in popularity after Flashpoint, because all the modern material is heavily based off of New 52. So thinking that Barry is the "true" Flash and Wally is a lesser-known one means you're either very old or very young.
I think it would have been a welcome addition if Barry had been included in the DCAU in a more concrete way, but like you said, Wally was my first Flash and therefore he's always been _my_ Flash.
I always thought it was Barry Allen in the justice league animated series until I saw a comment that said “wally west does care about his villains” saw a few more comments about someone else also thinking it was Barry Allen the whole time but he doesn’t care about his villain’s as he didn’t think they can be turn evil to good. So I went back to the episode where Batman reveals their identity by their names and he says “wally west” and he also shows his orange hair when he takes off his mask. Pretty shocked it was Wally west the whole time. Now makes me wonder if he’s actually faster and stronger then Barry Allen, Wally west has done some pretty incredible feats in the animated series.
I haven't even watched the video, but I figured, a while ago, that it was actually Barry Allen as the Flash in the episode Speed Demons of StAS. Since Wally West is mentioned and shown to be Flash in Justice League, and Unlimited, I like to think that Barry Allen went missing before JL started and Wally took on the role. Not to mention, the outfits are a little different.
While my favorite Flash is Barry, you can make an argument that Wally is the best Flash (I’m referring to the DC comics versions). Which might explain why the DCAU chose Wally.
18:51 And DCAU The Question is actually Young Justice Wally who lost his powers, went insane and put a tiny bit of bleach on his hair to become a strawberry blonde.
I love Barry Allen’s flash, but I would rather him not be a part of this canon But speedsters are immune to retcons. This gives me a theory. Wally may have some lingering memories of Barry Allen. Thus making him believe he was alone in the crime lab when Barry was there as well. This might also explain the merged personality and job choices. Due to the temporal ripples from Barry’s sacrifice Barry no longer exists. Wally knows something is wrong and that leads him to work in the crime lab. It is a time echo. And a phantom memory interpreted as a calling, a memory from another speedster. And this would explain the costumes. He created the yellow one himself, but those echos made him update it. And would answer all the other media as exsisting pre- sacrifice, the timeline with Barry Allen. But every choice has a million outcomes. So the two universes split. One where Barry lives and one where he was forgotten. This is the story of Barry Allen.
I do like the idea of Barry existing at some point in the DCAU, and then Wally taking over. In the comics, one of Wally’s main motivations was always living up to his uncle’s legacy. And while that motivation goes largely unsaid in the DCAU (other than in some of the tie-in material you mentioned), I like the idea that throughout it all, he’s just trying to make Barry proud.
A CRT TV has a layer of phosphors that gets hit by electrons to create the picture, and in turn, positively charges the screen. Then it shocks the shit out of you when you least expect it.
I like the idea of Barry having existed. But my personal head Canon is that the the DCAU flash is the young justice wally after he disappeared at the end of season 2. He might even have memory loss. This gives me closure for young justice wally and a decent explanation for no Barry in the DCAU.
Similar but a little different to what one of the top comments said. I like the idea that thawne hated Barry so much he decided to erase him from the timeline resulting in himself being erased too
I personally like having Barry be somewhere in the DCAU. I just really like imagining about what the dynamic between Barry and Wally could be like in the DCAU.
I personally love the idea of Barry having existed at one point. It really fleshes out the DCAU world more and builds up the mythos of the characters and gives more weight to Wally being the Flash, as he's carrying on the legacy of Barry.
@14:05 CRT literally translated to Cathode Ray Tube, which is essentially just a ray of electrons being shot at the screen creating the images we see. The obvious side effect of this is excess negative charge being collected onto the screen leading to the pesky staticky nature.

Idea of Barry being lost and forgotten due to Reverse Flash is genius and would make a really good DCAU movie.
I actually thought that it was Barry the whole time in justice league unlimited

Reverse Flash did it on Batman Brave and the Bold.
The Return of Barry Allen...

This is DC; not Doctor Who. 😅
Cool idea though
In my head canon, The Superfriends fought the Anti-Monitor in their own Crisis, which resulted in the birth of the DCAU.
Then we had an unseen Infinite Crisis that gave us the DCAMU pre Flashpoint 😂

@@epicdogeplaysthat is how the flash works but with one difference. That difference might explain this. Memories can pass via the speed force. When Barry is possessed his mind is sent to the speed force. But a speedster can posses a speedster.
So Barry could be dead and his mind is mixing with Wally. That makes it kinda like reincarnation like the hawks
@@ked49
In that case it would actually be a Transmigration
And not a Reincarnation
They are similar but not the same
I like the idea of Barry existing because it furthers the idea that this is already a universe where a lot of important events have happened
I kind of like Batman starting everything off in this universe though. Some far-off Flash shenanigans taking place sort of undermines that
@@maxalaintwo3578 The thing is, there were definitely costumed heroes active before Batman in the DCAU: Doctor Fate, El Diablo, Spy Smasher, probably Wildcat... so that's kind of a moot point, whether Barry was ever the Flash or not.
@@davebrown2056 Doctor Fate sort of has a primordial role though. And El Diablo and Wildcat aren't superpowered (at least not much,) so the escalation of stakes still doesn't occur after Superman
@@maxalaintwo3578 Well, a human who got one superpower in an accident is still low stakes compared to an alien with a bunch of superpowers.
@@davebrown2056 when his villains are time travelling reality changers, I'd be hesitant to call that "low-stakes."

@@omega9270 Tomorrowverse Crisis may be good, but doubt it. It needs a trilogy, but I really think the DCAU was better than the YJ verse.

Or that yellow costume was Wally's first costume just like how Batman has multiple batsuit
Hmmmmm...
Do we know that the justice lords' flash was Wally West instead of Barry Allen
@@LucasHopkins2006 I think they would have cared just as much because they didn't care that it was "wally/berry" it was this universe's flash
So I like the idea that both universe's berry died but the other universe didn't have a wally to step up and fill the void and maby thier berry was killed and other made a sacrifice.
It would also explain why batman stops wally from sacrificing himself later on not wanting to go through that again
I really like the idea of Barry existing in the DCAU. It gives a sense of history and depth to the universe. Even if I also prefer Wally to Barry overall.
Better an imaginary Barry rather than no Barry at all ⚡
Tbh I kinda like the idea that Barry and Thawn did have some big fight prior to the DCAU proper that retroactively erased their existence, so people only remember Jay and then Wally (or just Wally if we’re being super canon here)
If it helps to prevent your impending aneurysm: Impulse did change his name (and costume) to Kid Flash in the comic books around 2005. There's really no reason he couldn't have done the same in the DCAU.
Another great vid! I like the idea of Barry being there but I think it'd be fine if he wasn't, or if he was but got erased and changed the timeline slightly.
100% wished his sacrifice only prevented him from ever becoming the flash, but still being alive and well
Big fan nigga

I personally like the idea of Barry existing
It fleshes out the universe that there are heroes out there who came to be and fell
Plus it adds a bit to Wally
I like the idea of Barry and Eobard deleting each other from existence.
That batgirl mousepad at 9:51 is crazy
i think that instead of a version of the Crisis, maybe the DCAU had his own version of the Zero Hour event instead, that also would explain the absence of Hal Jordan,Hal was possessed by Paralax tried to use all Green Lantern corp powers to went back to the beggining of time and rewrite reality, but in this version, Barry sacrifice himself and trapped Hal and Paralax outside of time using the speed force, since they were pulled out of time, the timeline self rewriten as this characters never existed since they are outside of time, that would explain why Jonh became Hal for a short period of time when Chronus was messing with the time, maybe weakning his prison, and later when Wally does the Infinite Mass Punch to defeat Lex and vanish into the speed force, could be Barry inside of the speed force helping him come back making a rift so the League could pull him back into reality(and also the explanation of why only Wally remembers him) ,and we could use this to explain all that inconsistent comics and products of JL and JLU,maybe they happen before this version of Zero Hour happen and the cartoons are the rewriten timeline???

I was very shocked that the Flash was actually Wally West instead of Barry Allen. Which did explain his behavior.😄
I think that Barry being in the DCAU while it would be cool, kind of takes away from Wally’s story in a few ways.
Awesome haha
I love the OG Speedsters fit man. Something about that helmet is sick
Barry paradox’s himself by turning into the lightning bolt that turns wally into the one and ONLY flash
the ad was so fast i couldn't even react, and before i knew it i watched the whole thing
(just don't ask what marvel and DC were doing in april of 1996.) as a result - i simply boiled down to what i liked for "flash" rather than "wally", and just gave barry allen a normal life with iris, and the note that he was someone wally greatly adored, thus privy to his flashy secret (that throwaway 'uncle' line.)
i did comb through pretty much every piece of available DCAU and tangentially adjacent media at the time, and came to the conclusion yeah, there's just too much in the tie-in comics that throw out what the cartoon had previously established, it was more trying to sell the overall idea to both barry AND wally fans but SEPARATELY. every one of these tie-in comics seemed very focused on 'how much of the mainline DC timeline can we sneak in here to try and merge the comic's relevance into the cartoon', such as characters like kon-el showing up for a day only to be mysteriously wiped from the timeline (though there is an unused design somewhere for a STAS 90's kon-el, if my memory serves me right)
you can even see this in a more recent "we are definitely b:tas continuity" run where they ... just straight up said jason todd existed separately from tim to sort of... squeeze the element of death in the family trauma ... that was already present in tim's story? speaking of, the beyond comics are also super notorious for this. at some point it really becomes less coherent and more corporate saying "oooh, look, we're dangling your fave in front of you like a shiny set of keys."
your video really gave me some new thoughts that i probably agree with more than the beliefs about it i held over a decade ago, though, and i'm so happy that someone else has finally recognized how absolutely horrendous it is to explain!

Ah yes, the best Flash and my personal favourite hero go all time.
That super strong and super naked bit brought me BACK, I forgot all about that show until I looked it up thanks to you.
Thankfully you are in the minority with that.
Santa is fast. He just burns all his speed for the year in one night.
I like that Barry might of existed off screen it gives a bit more depth and history to the DCAU

I’d recommend…the video!
While my favorite Flash is Barry, you can make an argument that Wally is the best Flash (I’m referring to the DC comics versions). Which might explain why the DCAU chose Wally.
Also the fact the show was coming out while Wally was the main flash and Barry was dead in comics
18:51 And DCAU The Question is actually Young Justice Wally who lost his powers, went insane and put a tiny bit of bleach on his hair to become a strawberry blonde.
Did bro just trick us? 1:05
Yeah..
Barry Allen & Hal Jordan are like the DCAU's versions of Jay Garrick & Alan Scott.
I love Barry Allen’s flash, but I would rather him not be a part of this canon
But speedsters are immune to retcons.
I like the idea of him existing but I just wish that we saw him in the universe for at least a phew episodes
“That’s metal… in ya lungs!” Really got me!!😭😭😂
I do like the idea of Barry existing at some point in the DCAU, and then Wally taking over. In the comics, one of Wally’s main motivations was always living up to his uncle’s legacy. And while that motivation goes largely unsaid in the DCAU (other than in some of the tie-in material you mentioned), I like the idea that throughout it all, he’s just trying to make Barry proud.
That transition to the ad was amazing though
A CRT TV has a layer of phosphors that gets hit by electrons to create the picture, and in turn, positively charges the screen. Then it shocks the shit out of you when you least expect it.
I like the idea of Barry having existed. But my personal head Canon is that the the DCAU flash is the young justice wally after he disappeared at the end of season 2. He might even have memory loss. This gives me closure for young justice wally and a decent explanation for no Barry in the DCAU.
"Just don't go looking into his relationship history"💀💀💀
that segway to the sponsor was the cleanest I've seen on TH-cam ever
Similar but a little different to what one of the top comments said. I like the idea that thawne hated Barry so much he decided to erase him from the timeline resulting in himself being erased too
10:40 The mouse pad!
Bro that was the fucking best sponsor transition I have ever seen in my life
