I got nothing against cartridge razors, I used them for many years, but that 'Merica razor looks pretty darn good. Next time I'm in the market for a new safety razor, I might consider it as an option since it's cheaper than other safety razors on my list.

First shave with the Merica razor. First off the industrial look and feel are awesome. As for the shave, very efficient but also very smooth. I have course facial hair and I only needed two passes, wtg and xtg, to get a bbs shave that normally requires 3 passes. Very glad you reviewed this razor. I never would have known about it otherwise.

Damn...just bought Harry's refills at Wally World..4 for $9. Say they're made in Germany. I like anything not made in PRC. Single edge razors scare the bejesus out of me. I do fondly remember watching my Dad shave with them in the '60s. We had slots in the back of our medicine cabinets where you'd drop the old blades into between the wall studs. Always thought that was cool. Anyways, you've convinced me to take the plunge! Baxter out!

When I first started wet shaving, I used a hydro 3 cartridge razor Wilkinson sword and thought it was great, then I moved onto the protector 3 razor also by Wilkinson sword and hated it (it had wires in front of the blades so you couldn't nick yourself but meant the shave would be horrible) and then I finally leaped in and got a cheapo butterfly opening safety razor and absolutely loved it. And now I have the Percy nobleman safety razor which feels great

The razor is manufactured I believe by Yates Precision Manufacturing. They make some fantastic razors. The magnetic base on the handle is a really nice touch. The only cartridge I've come to appreciate is the Gillette Skinguard which seems you address most concerns with the shaving characteristics of a cartridge razor.

Same with the electric razor, irritation and not comfortable, even worse than a cartridge razor. Traditional wet shaving with a DE razor for me, please and thank you.

I made the switch 10 years ago. I’ve used a cartridge here and there in that time (traveling, just using the last few blades I had in the house) but I am over it.
The worst cut I’ve ever had shaving was with a Harry’s. There blades used to be super slick and it had the trimmer on the back. It slipped out of my hand and I caught it, and that trimmer blade cut my chin about 3/4 long and deep. It was terrible.
That ‘Merica razor is pretty sweet.

  • @brois841
    @brois841 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Found your video's looking up the Norelco OneBlade/Harry's. I trim, but shave maybe once per week from the jaw line down the neck. Would you recommend the Merica razor as a good starter razor? I don't really care about the cost as much as just a good (and safe) experience. Currently use cartridge razors, but as you've said in your video, end up keeping them too long, they end up pulling/irritating the skin and so on. If you have a good "starter set" recommendation, I'd be all ears. Again, cost of entry isn't a concern, just want a great experience. Thanks! :)

I've shaved my head since I was 18 at different points in my life. Started doing it again to save money from going to the barber. Since I was always wearing a cap I decided to shave my head again with a safety razor. I actually get less cuts with a safety razor than a cart. I do a 2 WTG passes I get good results I've never been able to go ATG even with carts. Since DE blades are so cheap I use them once for a head shave and toss them out.

Nice predictable comparison. The 'Merica blade gap is between the Rockwell 6C/6S R2 and R3 plates which would be a good setting for me. But I love my Rockwell 6C. The fact that it has six-blade gap settings makes it a better choice IMHO. But I love your enthusiasm.

I saw a TH-cam video of a guy shaving with an axe. I would not try this. I’ll stick with my safety razors. Shave wonderful.

Harry's is the best current cartridge on the market. Gillette price gouges. And safety razors aren't practical for your average guy. They're great for shaving enthusiasts. But for those of us that don't shave as a hobby there are better options

Harry’s is garbage compared to pretty much any safety razor.
I tried them for a while, the heads come unclipped from the handle (bad design), and despite the number of blades, cannot achieve the level of shave you can get from the average safety razor.

IMO the "Merica " razor head is similar the Marvel fine razor head . Check it and see for yourself, Oh by the way Harrys blades are terrible, they feel like old worn out blades I bought them at Walmart and get a refund.

Cliff Clavin useless fact of the day... 316 stainless steel is a version of SS that is more corrosion resistant.

The ‘Merica is obviously the cool brother with the hot girlfriend who’s doing pretty well and poor Harry is the other brother who’s just found out his wife is a slag.

I use Mach 3 turbo razor because I use it to shave my body aswell that’s the reason why I don’t switch to a safety razor.
Yes safety razors are most likely better (Never used them) and costs cheaper for the blades in the long term but it’s good for the people who only want to shave their face with them.
For face and body all together it’s best to stick with mach 3 or mach 3 turbo.
Would like to switch to safety razor but I don’t think they’re suitable to shave body with, also you gotta spend more time because you gotta be more cautious with them.

Harrys are not good. Too flimsy and the blade neck is not rigid enough.

Hey Supernoob. Believe us, (From The Wet Shaving Club) we picked the name 'Merica to spite those who use it as a negative term. We see it as a term of endearment! We use it as a badge of honor. 'Merica is where it is at, in our opinion.
