Truly interesting trip. Baku is far different than I thought it would be. I understand there are some open natural gas vents on fire somewhere around there. I only knew of Baku for I was reading up a few years ago about teaching English in the Republic of Georgia next door to Azerbaijan known as the Caucus mountains. That's awesome they were super friendly and civilized. I found most people in other countries to be friendly and generally awesome in taking care of me for it is in their ethos of patriotic pride and love of their country in showing it off to visitors. Nothing like the USA and Western Europe...

I think you had one big misunderstanding about our ethnicity and history behind it. Please, check it and consider it for future videos about Azerbaijan.
1. We are not TURKISH, we are TURKIC ! Turkish and Turkic are different things. Its like Bosnians and Russians are both slavic, but different in their own way.
2. We did not split up with them, as we have never been one country, whatsover! Azerbaijan had its own states, khanates and empires and in fact untill 20th century, despite our common roots, due to religious reasons (we were shiites, they were sunnites) we were deepest enemies :))) Only after 20th century, when religious identity weakened in both states, we start to ackowledge our common roots, and became closer.
3. Culturally, historically, we have a lot of differences. But of course, also we share similarities. Azerbaijani Turks are here from ancient times. Our ancestors were of hunnic, sabir, kipchak and oghuz heritage. In ancient Georgian sources they were calling us as BunTurks. We were growing by our own way, without ottomans or Turkey
4. And we never see them as our "parent" country :))) As I already said, historically, Turkic people lived in Azerbaijan way before oghuz migration to Anatolia. We just call Turkey our brother country. As there is popular saying among Turkish and Azeri people: "bir millet, iki dovlet", "one nation two states". So its not about parenthood, but brotherhood.

they are different than Turkish ppl.but, language is little different from what I heard.
@@ManofEthic language is %90 percent the same. But they write words differently. They have those strange "ə" letter for Turkish "e" they use "x" instead of "h" in Turkish. That's it. Also they have some really old Persian loan words that you only can hear from a Turkish grandma lol

Ooooh, watching this made my heart beat a lot faster. I've been in Azerbaijan twice the past year, and it has made a huge impact on me and my life. I went first time because of a concert, and the second time was mainly because I needed a timeout from my ordinary life and to go searching for myself. So Azerbaijan and Baku in particular holds a special place in my heart. I'm planning a third trip next year, but this place is with my every day as it symbolizes the search for myself and the feeling of freedom. Such a beautiful and fascinating country!

Oil money. Also the dictator there, or at least his father, was actually trained as an architect in university. Really paid off for Baku. Also Azerbaijan is friends with Turkey and has close econmic ties to the EU. As Turkey's economy has increased, so has Azerbaijan's.
@@RoScFan They put a glamorous facade with the oil money, but the vast majority live in slums. It's actually a very corrupt country with a high poverty rate.
