    In most European countries it is mandatory for all drivers to create a “rescue road” when traffic comes to a stand on a highway. All cars move as far right as possible, except the cars on the left lane, they move as far as possible to the left. This improves response time and saves lives

    Just a little advice. If you come upon backed up traffic like this its best to kill the lights and sirens and drive down the emergency lane.
    If they don't notice you they wont freak out and block the whole highway.
    It's unconventional but generally wont break any of your protocols or laws so long as you maintain some minimal emergency lighting.

    • @Josephdivemontana
      @Josephdivemontana 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Carter iys actually our local protocol to do just that. Too many lights and sirens can be confusing for people. We also stick all the way to the left unless it's not possible.

      Pamela Schramke If he would have come the opposite way of the highway he wouldn't go through such traffic. Take a close look at the end of the video, there is no center divider.

      Angelo,
      While its a nice idea and could work well its also dangerous.
      Look at all the people unable to do something as simple as pulling to the right.
      People would have no clue what to do.
      Imagine little old grannie with Alzheimers going head on with a firetruck.

    • @Carter-dv4hz
      @Carter-dv4hz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Pamela,
      Unfortunately American law states that vehicles must pull to the right when an emergency vehicle is approaching.
      This is due to the fact that faster traffic is generally on the left hand side. Pursuits are safer when passing on the left.

    • @pamelaflirtyskunk7698
      @pamelaflirtyskunk7698 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Carter Thank you. I've been driving in the USA for many years now. The left shoulder SHOULD be open if the law was followed. However, an accident on the interstate is far different than on city roads. If EVERYONE moved right as they are supposed to do, the left shoulder would be open. It did not help matters this fire truck was attempting to drive down the middle of the interstate. That's actually not how it's supposed to work either. If people used their brains, they'd have stayed in their lanes and left the shoulders, or at least the left shoulder open.

    Common sense and logic would tell me that if there was a motor vehicle accident on a busy freeway, then the traffic that was travelling on that freeway would have nowhere to go. This is called coning to a complete STOP. Unless fire trucks have developed wings enabling them to fly, then the only advice I can offer is.... keep taking your blood pressure meds

    Commercial vehicles who do not make every effort to align themselves properly: on the spot $5000 fine to the business owner for FIRST OFFENCE, $10000 for second and so on. Individual drivers loose their licence after third offence. Companies have vehicle impounded after third offence. All it should take is a photo with a date stamp and GPS info, uploaded to relevant traffic authority.
    The only acceptable excuses could be a catastrophic breakdown of the obstructing vehicle, or an medical incident involving the driver, or if the driver is already under instruction from a police officer or emergency personnel
    I have some sympathy for domestic vehicles not sure of what to do when boxed in, but professionals are supposed to know what to do.

    Why don't you just drive down the hard shoulder? like what is it with America's rules? is it not advised? against the law? like what? In the UK. If traffic is like this, you'll have the emergency vehicle, police, ambulance, fire, coast guard, doesn't matter, they'll be rocketing down the hard shoulder. Full lights sometimes sirens. They get through SO fast. It's never a thing in the UK to have the emergency vehicle try and push all the others into the hard shoulder and personally from all the videos I've watched, it works a lot better over here in the UK the way we do it. Only time in the UK this happens is if there is no hard shoulder or if the hard shoulder is 'reduced' so can't safely fit a vehicle driving down it, then you'll have something similar to this where they try and go down the middle, but yeah, normally, pop down the hard shoulder, bam your there.
