Dave, have you considered the possibility that We the audience have learned from our past mistakes regarding Ghost Busters 2016, and Star Wars, that given the media coverage, we may all take a stand against Captain Marvel on principle for their heinous messaging? All of the propaganda is following the exact same tactics those feminist films followed.
As you may not be surprised that the film may succeed, nor would I be surprised if it does not. Seeing what has been going on in social media lately, for example you sounding the trumpet about society at large, people in the central camp are waking up and saying ENOUGH is FUCKING ENOUGH. I know I won't go and see Captain Marvel.
BTW, go see Alita: Battle Angel if you haven't. It is a really pleasant surprise.

By Jack Butler "Carol Danvers isn't a hero, has never been a hero, and doesn't deserve to be treated as a hero. Why, you ask? Well, its very simple. If you are heavy into comics, as I am, you know the following about Carol Danvers. 1-She's an alcoholic who refuses to admit she has a drinking problem and who gets violently abusive and mean when she drinks. 2-Speaking of being abusive, she not only regularly beat up but openly cheated on her husband, who literally had to file for a protection order enforced by another superhero because he was afraid for his life. 3-She's a raging control freak who once threatened to literally murder a teammate for the "crime" of stating a problem with her admittedly flawed "orders" despite the teammate not actually being under her authority. 4-She's so arrogantly arrogant that she once attempted to pull rank on Captain America because she stupidly assumed his real military rank was "Captain" because its in his name, despite the fact that she's a lieutenant colonel who calls herself "Captain." (For the record, Captain America's actual military rank is Brigadier General; a bit higher up the ladder than Lieutenant Colonel.) 5-She once "punished" a single mother who refused to follow Carol's orders -- despite the single mother NOT being in the military or otherwise under Carol Danvers' authority -- by beating down said single-mother so badly that the victim needed to be treated by an Intensive Care Unit. 6-And just to make matters worse, she decided to apply said vicious beat down against the single mother, she did so right in front of the victim's seven-year-old daughter, no doubt traumatizing the child for life, just to rub the "punishment" in the victim's face. This act literally horrified Carol Danvers' teammates to the point that at least two of them resigned and swore to never work with her again. 7-She is perfectly willing to arrest and imprison people based on nothing more than the possibility that they might have done something wrong, despite a complete and total lack of any evidence that they ever intended to commit a crime, much less were actively planning on doing so. And once imprisoned, she sees no reason not to keep said innocent people in prison, since "better safe than sorry" is apparently more important to her than the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Amendments to the US Constitution. And this despite the fact that she's an active-duty Air Force officer who supposedly swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution. As one critic put it, "Its easy to forget the oath when you've become one of the enemies you're supposed to be fighting." 8-Made fun of a Holocaust survivor by saying, "he's like those liberal idiots on the internet who compares everyone he doesn't like to Hitler." And now Marvel is trying to take this piece of shit abusive bully of a garbage human -- literally one of the worst "heroes" Marvel has ever come up with -- and polish her up into their own version of Wonder Woman or something. Yeah, sorry, but no. There's only one character worthy of the title "Captain Marvel" and this ain't it. I don't care what the trademarks say. She's not worthy of shining Billy Batson's shiny gold booties."

    • @Loponstorm
      @Loponstorm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

@@acecopley1426 Stan Lee made good characters who were interesting not because of their gender or skin tone or how much people picked on them, but because of their actions, heart, and internal struggle.
Feminists don't do that, they focus on identity politics, and don't create relatable flawed characters. They make Mary Sue's who are always perfect and better than everyone else cause they were so OPPRESSED.
(while painting the world as if women or people of color are oppressed in modern society, when the opposite is true, white men are demonized for the tiniest things like SMIRKING while people of color get a pass for comparable or even worse offenses, and the legal system highly favors women)
Stan Lee made characters who struggle with themselves in some form and who's biggest obstacle that stands in their way, tend to be themselves, and only by overcoming THEIR OWN FLAWS do they gain the power to fight the Big Baddy.
There's many major differences between Stan Lee's vision and the vision of feminists who create typical feminist propaganda garbage, don't insult his legend with your bullshit of conflating the two as the same thing.

    • @acecopley1426
      @acecopley1426 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@Loponstorm I appreciate your good faith determination to debate this. But you are wrong.
Let's go with Philando Castillo - the man who was killed by police in Minnesota on a traffic stop. Prior to this tragedy Philando - a black man - was pulled over an average of 40 times per year. Why? Because he was a black man who had to drive through a white neighborhood to get home. That's it. I don't know what it is like to get pulled over 40 times in a calendar year. Do you? No - and his "black identity" is the ENTIRE reason why.
You argue that "identity politics" are wrong. What about this guy? He was only ever being pulled over because he was black. What is terrible about saying "this peculiar identity has problems in American society and we should solve them?"
THAT is what Stan Lee did. You can say "oh no, Sam Wilson was just a hero with a good heart" but the Sam Wilson in the comics was a Social Worker in Harlem and was concerned with the struggles of America's marginalized citizens - this was clearly shown to readers. I know. I read the comics.
The original Ms. Marvel was trying to succeed in publishing where women rarely succeeded. I know - I read those comics too. Rather then doing hard news J. Jonah Jameson wanted her to do recipes - you know, girl stuff!
When a specific identity faces a real challenge - then it is worth discussing without incels and Trolls bombing a website with fake reviews. All she said is that it would be nice to see more women and film critics of color. How can any reasonable person thing that is hate?

Brie won’t struggle, in any significant way, and she won’t learn a lesson. The only lesson she’ll push is that men are against her, and we’re actively trying to make her fail. You might have been able to make that point a few decades ago, but that hasn’t been an issue I’ve seen within my lifetime. I’m struggling to make a living. Marvel Studios knows that the Carol Danvers version of Captain Marvel has never been a popular character. This is why Marvel Studios waited until now and didn't include Captain Marvel in any of the previous Marvel films over the last decade. Marvel Studios obviously used the more popular Marvel characters to build their cinematic universe & win over support from millions of movie going fans. Marvel film fans know that Captain Marvel didn't earn a place for herself over the last 10 years within Marvel films to only now be included in Marvel Studio's Phase 1 story arc & epic conclusion in Avengers: End Game. I have no doubt that either in the new Captain Marvel film or Avengers: End Game it will be shown that Captain Marvel is the most powerful character in the MCU & I fully expect Captain Marvel to be the Marvel character that directly fights & defeats Thanos in Avengers: End Game. I also expect Captain Marvel to be made the new leader of the Avengers in Marvel Studios' Phase 2 of the MCU. If I am right, will the majority of MCU fans support this? Only speaking for myself, I will not. Take care.

It’s hard to judge when I haven’t seen the movie yet, so I can only go off what I’ve seen in trailers. It’s looks bad. She’s not likable in any way, so unless the trailers hid a charming personality, I don’t see how they can expect Captain Marvel and Black Panther to carry the Avengers going forward. I like Black Panther, but that movie was good because Killmonger was a fantastic villain. The MCU needs to bring in the X-Men and Fantastic Four quickly. They could get another 10 years of movies with them and Spider-Man easily. Move away from the Avengers side of the universe and focus on the X-Men. People want to see that core group made up of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Beast, Storm, and Rogue and Gambit, among others, in the MCU. Captain Marvel is terrible. Especially with what they’ve done to her in the comics the last few years (which is the version we are getting in the movie). She’s had 6-7 reboots in 3-4 years. Nobody likes her.

I think a trailer should bring excitement and make the viewer wanting more. I have grown up standing in front of the TV fighting along with Rocky. The trailer for Creed 2 was great. It woke my excitement for the old Rocky movies but also made me interested in this movie.
Disney has really pissed on fans and their history with characters. The way they handle Luke, Han and Leia in the “new” movies was just disrespectful. Guessing that the new Toy Story 4 will have Jessie in the focus while Woody stays home and takes care of the kids while the kill of Buzz to make room for a new female Mary Sue character.

The Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther and Ant Man and Wasp while have their own runs over the years were little more than back up characters or C listers but they used the same patented Marvel hit movie formula. Captain Marvel from the advanced press has veered from that formula and went woke. Marvel was bound to fail eventually, but this time it looks like they deliberately shot themselves in the foot.

I'm pretty sure if we watched movies from the 60s, 50s and even the 40s, we would find a few strong female leads in the lot and probably they would have much more compelling story than a mary Sue. It never will be. The feminist movement is so divided, they can't agree on what is Feminism. Alita, Wonder Woman, Black Widow, the Major from Ghost in the Shell, none of these were satisfactorily 'feminist.' If the character has curves, its anti feminist. If the character cares for children, motherhood, or shows feelings for a man, its anti feminist. If the character, in anyway, displays traditional feminine traits or values, its anti feminist. They're so busy checking their lists and demanding things, they're missing the point of escapism. EVERYTHING has to be a ham-fisted, childish moral and social lecture, or it isn't "good." Amanda Tapping has always been a favorite of mine, but sadly because she didn't demean her male costars and make them out to be literal idiots she will be ignored by the feminists.
I feel if someone can't be presented to be a strong character (male OR female) without having to resort to demeaning (or worse) the opposite sex (I can see the SJW's/Feminists fuming at the mouths now for my use of the word "opposite sex") then there is a serious core issue with either the writing, the character, etc. Your character must not be a very strong character if you have to resort to those tactics.
As I'm sure it's been stated before, if men were have this same attitude in movies (belittle the women, etc) it would cause an outrage, the end of the world wound be near, etc, etc.
And yes I'm aware of how women have sometimes been portrayed in the past (helpless, etc)..but that's really not a thing anymore (as is the whole male privilege thing as these days things are equal..you can't pay men more than women for the same job, etc, etc..but that's another story).
Anyway, I won't be seeing Captain Marvel at the theaters (I will buy it eventually on Blu-ray (used for far less money) at some point in the future but that will be months away).
Funny how feminists thing that men are scared/"insert your adjective of choice here" of "strong women"..that is far from the case. A "strong" women isn't issue..the issue is they choose to make them come across as a total opinionated b!tch (which btw, if a man did that he'd be called a d!ck, but they'll ignore that as it doesn't for their narrative). Women can be strong, intelligent and powerful without being a male bashing feminist SJW.

    Hi everyone,
Sorry for the long opinion and origin story but it takes less then 5 mins to read even if it looks so long.
I've written long elaborated comments regarding the Captain Marvel fiasco/PR nightmare. But first let me give a tiny glimpse in my history so you know where I am coming from. I'm in my early 50's and have been a comic book collector since about 6-8 yrs old and at the time it was just my reading and escapism pleasure. At that age what kid doesn't dream to fly and be a super hero?
Starting at 7=8 years old to my early tweens, I got more serious in my collecting just like people who collected stamps, sports cards and coins. I could add more collectibles to that list but I am sure you get the gist of it. In my late teens, I hunted collectibles that had already gained value $ wise and selected those to grow my collection not just for entertainment values but but now also more as investments to my collection. I collected from an early age up to the late 90's where and when I lost a big chunk of my collection due to a flood, I was so bummed out that I took a break from collecting. I resumed collecting till the early 2000's. Luckily for me, the part of my collection lost due to the flood weren't my highest items money wise nor my own personal favorites. I simply hunted down the ones I lost to the flood and continued on, looking for the big $ collectibles. My collection was appraised in 2001 to $53500 which got an immediate offer for that amount by the appraiser. An offer that I declined, instead I passed on my collection to my son as a family heirloom with a high $ value in 2012 which is now worth in the $75K's in today's market. I was glad to see my son see more than just the $ value of my/now his collection and he decided not to sell any till either it's a real must option due to cash being needed for an emergency or keep'em and be passed on to his own child as a family heirloom down the road which by then will have gained even more $ value (smart kid for a teenager).
Why this long summary before I address the issues at hand, to show that when it comes down to the history/origins and story lines up to the 2001/2002, I know my stuff sort to speak.
The successes of Disney/MCU are due to the top brass listening to the MCU fans and consultants that had a hand in every movies from start till now (which is where & why DC continuously fails). And their magic touch was that they stuck to the Marvel's characters as close as possibly to the comic book characters. And I was extremely excited when today's technology made it possible to bring my favorite heroes to the big screen. I've watched every Marvel movie in theater to get the best cinematographic experience as possible. Another of MCU's big advantage is/was, that they didn't bring PC, political views and all other labels to their movies. They understood that even though they wanted to reach a younger demographic, they knew and understood that my generation (Gen X) were the ones able and wanting to see for themselves their childhood heroes come to the big screen and in the process bring their kids to the theaters as well. Doing this not only attracted old and young movie goers but also raised their MCU merchandise items (like comic books and other collectibles available). Going to see a MCU movie with 2 adults, 2 kids is costly, you're easily looking at $60-$70 for a night out. Try getting this by insulting 40's+ old white men and see where it goes. Even a single 40+ yr old white men going to watch such movies is more than all other demographic put together because we grew up following those characters from an early age till today. I've stopped collecting since the early 2000's due to many reasons but mostly because I just wanted to add the high end, high valued comic issues and those are not easy to find and even harder to purchase because 1) they ain't cheap because the collectors who have them, know their values and are not easily convinced to part with them. After I gave the rest of my collection to my son, I was happy to see him pick up the torch and start collecting himself.
Now, onto Captain Marvel and the terrible fiasco/debacle brought on by the actress who portrays the main character. Not only did she insult the biggest demographic audience for such movies but she also doubled down on her statements and got support from the female director as well who openly said this was a feminist movie. Talk about adding salt to injury *sigh*.
MCU/Disney has gone off the reservation and brought in PC and feminism to a movie that people such as me would go watch for escapism, entertainment value and to follow up on the timeline up to Avengers End Game. Of course, also to feel like a kid again.
No movie is perfect, there were many things in past MCU movies that I didn't agree with but those were minor and had nothing to do with current political issues, religious beliefs, feminism, racism and so on, you get my point I'm sure. MCU movies were just movies we (40+yr old white men) just want to watch like when we were kids waiting for the next comic book issue to buy to add to our collection but also mostly because we loved our favorite characters and their story lines so much so, that we couldn't wait to get our hands on the next upcoming comic book, like watching a tv series that ends with a cliff hanger and make us wait till the next episode to know how things turn out.
Bottom line, I will not pay my hard earned money to go see a movie which openly states they have another agenda than to please their audience/movie goers who simply want to escape the political reality/divisiveness forced on us by all medias on a daily basis. I've watched many youtube videos on this issue and mostly by strong MCU loving females who see what's going on in the same way other people (men like me included) see it.
What worries me the most (with all he feminist bs aside) is, that MCU/Disney give Captain Marvel too much screen time in the upcoming Avengers: End Game. This Captain Marvel stand alone female movie is the first to show/grow Captain Marvel so we already know her more when Avengers 4 hits the theater. Brie Larson could not only ruin 1 MCU movie but maybe also 2, which would really piss me off to say the least.
The best thing that could happen with the Captain Marvel character would be to kill her off ASAP and have Rogue get her powers and move on from this Brie Larson/MCU/Disney fiasco. All in hopes that MCU/Disney gets the message to not bring in PC, feminism, politics in their movies/stories. And hopefully, this will end up being a learning experience/lesson for all other studios making movies to entertain us, to give us 2 hrs of total escapism from our every day lives.Because at the end of the day, all movie goers, no matter our differences, just want to let our imagination roam freely and for those 2 hrs, not be bothered with any hidden or open messages/agendas.
Do these ring any bells: GhostBusters 2016, Star Wars: The last Jedi, Solo a Star Wars Story, Ocean's eight ????
So, sorry for the long rant and thank you to whomever took the time to read me and to those, please feel free to add your comments, either if you agree or disagree with me, either way, I'd love to know the why's of your opinions?
Oh and who else agrees with me that the best cure for this fiasco is, to kill off Captain Marvel and have Rogue take her powers ASAP?

@@49ers1975 If they try to stay as close to the "Infinity Gauntlet" series as possible, it's normal to bring in new blood to fight Thanos. In the series, the Silver Surfer played a major role with Adam Warlock, which we heard of in the Guardians and I am hoping they will have him in End Game and maybe CM takes over the role of the Silver Surfer for the purpose the Silver Surfer played in the final battle. The issue with CM is, she's a C-list character in the Marvel Universe and has always been. Seeing MCU/Disney trying to bring CM to the forefront of the MCU to try and make her not only an A-list character but also more powerful than she really is, is simply a joke. There's an old Marvel comic issue where Captain Marvel can't even lift Thor's training weights (can't remember what # issue it was off the top of my head) but remember reading it. Like I said, I knew and expected MCU/Disney to bring in new characters because in the Infinity Gauntlet series, almost the entire Marvel roster is involved in trying to defeat Thanos. Not forgetting the most powerful entities ever created in the Marvel Universe who are also involved in that series. I know we won't see those in End Game and I'm ok with it because there's just no way MCU/Disney would/could bring those beings to life just to follow the "Infinity Gauntlet" series.
Thanks to a friend of mine, I watched CM last night from the comfort of my home and am glad because I wasn't going to pay a dime to see it. And in my view, it's a flop filled with propaganda and liberal agendas with tons of feminism (not the good kind). But after watching it, it confirmed my biggest fear, that being that Brie Larson might not just ruin one MCU movie but rather two because after watching it, I am sure that End Game is made around her to try and build her up for more CM stand alone movies or put her character on a pedestal above all our other favorite characters. MCU/Disney telling that CM is the most powerful character in MCU is a joke and actually insulting to me. Whomever is the guy in the upper echelon of Disney/MCU power decision making who's pushing Brie Larson on us and I wonder what is the real reason behind it? Is he another Weinstein and Larson is being pushed on us to stay quiet? Because as an actress in this movie, she proves she is absolutely bland no matter what powers Disney/MCU give her, they can't give her a personality.

When I was a kid I remember being a little annoyed that they replaced M in bond with a female character. I thought it was just trying to be progressive for the sake of it. After seeing Judi Dench act I was so happy to be wrong. Now I can't see anyone compare to her in that role because her performance was amazing. This is the important factor.

The reason CM will succeed is because of the people who say, “Yeah, it looks bad but i trust Marvel”, or, “It looks bad but it ties into Endgame so i guess i’ll see it for the after credits”. These people naively vote with their money and send the message that we are okay with bad movies and social justice politics crammed down our throats. Disney knows this. The audience that stands up for themselves is a very small minority.
It’s funny because my entire life, i never once was turned off by having a female lead character, or black character, or different species character, or whatever. A good story can make me empathize with a sentient toaster. It wasn’t up until around 2015 or 2016 that i started to have people telling me i’m a misogynist, a rapist, a sexist, a racist, a bigot, and all the good stuff, that i began to feel uncomfortable around diverse characters. When i see a female lead, i have to wonder, is she female just because, is she a female because it serves the story, or is she female because they are going to force feminism down my throat? And i now second-guess seeing movies with women. When i see a black character, i now think, “is this token affirmative action black actor, or do they serve the story?” Before social justice became a thing, i never would have thought twice. I never cared. I remember my entire childhood not even knowing that racism and sexism is a thing that exists. I always thought people were just people. SJW’s showed me otherwise. They told me i owe something to other people because i look different or was born different. They tell me i have privilege while they are the ones reaping the benefits of pulling the victim card every day. I don’t have any card. I never got a single thing handed to me free from anybody other than my parents. The world is not on my side. I’m 25 and flat-broke. I have dreams that are not achievable because i have no money. I’m waiting for this privilege to show up because i could really use it right now. Meanwhile, everywhere i look, free stuff for diverse people. Free scholarships just for being female. Scholarships for being black. Free flight training for women. Boys pay full price. Affirmative action sees to it that a diverse person will always get hired over the white person when all else is equal, sometimes even if less-qualified. So tell me more about this privilege thing.
Brie Larson won’t miss me. After all, i am a half-white male.

Good for you, I'm going to buy the blu ray.... probably from a bargain bin because I'm a big fan of the original anime and I've not seen a good live action anime adaptation to date, but I've got my captain marvel ticket booked because I've seen every other MCU film and want to see the other plot details that will carry over.
I remember people at work who went to see infinity war while their only other exposure was a handful of other MCU films (mostly avengers) and then they were bitching about not being up to speed on why thor was missing an eye, who half the other characters were and instantly disliking the guardians because they hadn't seen their movies. My OCD nature would hate to miss even one minor details like the revelation on who among the main avengers are going to be krulls, plus I've really like the de-aging process they've used because it looks a lot better than grand moff tarkin in rogue one. so i'm glad to see a young Fury and Coulson at any age back on screen. These are characters I definitely love so I want to see them in their early years, their prime! you want to miss out on that cause of some stubbornness, whatever dude, that's your prerogative and I hope you feel happy about it.

@@Omaru1982 Thats too bad, because Alita is the best live-action/CGI movie make of a manga or anime ever. Cameron is a true fan of the original manga, and it came out on screen; he also paid direct tribute to the anime with some specific shot choices done directly from the anime, and fit it into a two hour run time. I'm not going to weigh in on the Marvel thing, because I'm not really a fan of MCU anyway. At least you'll support Alita on blu ray, which is nice.

Any lover of comic books and powerful stories should support Alita instead of this tone-deaf and heartless socio-political pandering nonsense. Alita is utterly unique and mind-numbingly gorgeous (unlike Captain Anti-Marvel). There's a reason mainstream critics and media are review-bombing Alita : it doesn't follow their disgusting narrative of an idealogy only followed by cynical harpies with rainbow coloured hair.
Alita broke new ground and rose the ceiling for filmmaking. It was truly spectacular. There are only subtle allegory in Alita, which is how messages are supposed to told. If you care about a real story, with beautiful performances, then please go out and support Alita. It deserves love.
