I have never, ever, taken my dog’s food away or disturbed him when he’s eating. I leave him alone to eat his food in peace, and he has never shown even the slightest hint of aggression around food.
Very interesting with your two dogs. One of mine buries her bones and then wants the ones belonging to the younger dog who understandably is less than happy. Any advice really welcome.
Either separate the dogs completely or when she starts to bury the bone you bring her inside leaving the other to enjoy in peace. If you keep doing this she will stop burying and enjoy too.
I have been having problems with this! I have been dog listening for about 18 months... and have seen success in other areas but this remains concerning. Our dog growls and barks when we come even remotely close to him while eating. Even walking into the room is a trigger. We used to have his bowl in a separate quiet room, but he would end up not even eating, but guarding the food and the room, so we moved him into the kitchen. Any thoughts? We do try to eat a piece of food prior to giving him food.
