    Old tom peel sessions in the 80's. turned me on to Extreme Noise Terror and Napalm Death. That was the turning point for me. No turning back. Im 57 now still playing extreme music. Many bands over the years. Cheers on the Spermbirds!!!

      ENT and Napalm Death are certainly excellent. Peel had the right idea about music alright. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Awesome listening to your story, lots of mentions there that were part of my journey as well… Public Enemy, Thrasher Magazine, Spermbirds, Anthrax… your name it’s in the hat!!! Thank you for the support my friend, have a great week. Cheers

      Thanks Joaquim! I hope you’re having a good time in Europe. Watch out for slippery stairs 😝 I left a lot of stuff out from this cause otherwise the video would’ve been over 30 mins long. Thrasher magazine introduced me to a lot of bands as did many skateboarding videos. You and I are around the same age so no wonder we have lot of the same bands that shaped our taste. Thanks for hosting the contest brother. Take care and cheers!

    If you have your record in a protective cover, you don't need to put the vinyl behind the sleeve. You can keep it in it's cardboard sleeve. It's not going to rub or wear if it's in a poly protective cover. That way you can look at the back artwork without taking the vinyl out. I use resealable sleeves so the vinyl is more secure and keeps dust out.

    • @DrOktober

      Thanks for watching and commenting! Yeah I know but my reason to store them like I do is to have a quicker access to the record itself. When I play an album I usually take everything out from the protective sleeve. I sit down and read the lyrics/admire the album artwork etc. cheers!

      Hey Shaun! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I miss getting mix tapes from friends, was the most fun way to get to know new music back then. That incident at the stairs was a bit scary but can laugh at it now. I survived with just a few scratches. Thanks for watching brother! Cheers

    First and foremost I’m glad to see you survived that fall on that suicidal staircase lol! Holy shit that frightened me! Your English is far superior to millions of Americans born and raised with English as their first language 😂. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Your English is outstanding! It always makes me laugh though when ESL folks can use second language profanity like it’s their first language 😂. I’m the same way. I believe it most important to learn how to use vulgarity properly when learning a second or third language. Great video. Aside from Beck, those are some heavy genres. Nice to hear about your music journey and it’s always heartwarming to hear it involved family influences. Cheers
    I just subscribed to your channel.

      Thank you for the nice comment! It’s so true that whenever learning a new language, it’s best to start with bad words hahah. And also numbers I’d add. I live in Hungary currently so I’ve learned some Hungarian. You get pretty far by just knowing the numbers and mumbling vulgarities😂 Those stairs scared me! I wasn’t even aware how close to the edge I was…😬 I was lucky. Thanks for watching and subscribing. Gonna do the same now! Cheers

    Love me some Middle Life Crisis Rants! Also am jealous of that Limp Wrist tee! I don't think Beck ever put out a bad record. "Scumdogs" is still their best. "Maggots, MAGGOTS, maggots are falling like rain!" Your Dad has great taste! I still consider the people I used to tape trade with as good friends. And we still talk to this day. You and Vinylnaut introduced me to wonderful Finnish music like Terveet Kadet and Tikerieri (sp.)? How's ol' Finntroll doing? Cool journey! Kippis!

    • @DrOktober
      @DrOktober  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can’t think of a bad Beck album either. Tape trading was the best, Tommy and Low Noise Jason Skilz have made me few tapes so that’s nice. My dad had awful and good taste hahah. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers

      Yeah man! I didn’t see those two steps were wet. I was trying to pay attention and not look what im shooting but still managed to fall on my ass. Better mine than that statues arse hahah! My wife can’t watch the clip cause it was such a close call. Mix tapes rule and I miss them too. Couple of friends in the VC has sent me a few which is very cool. I should start making those again now that I have a fully functioning tape deck. Cheers brother!

    Interesting stuff Mika. I bought that Public Enemy album day of release, still got my vinyl copy. I’m a few years older than you, so I was a big hip hop nut by then & already had the previous two by P.E I remeber finding it dissaponting, I think I’ve played it about 3 times!. I can never quite remember how I got it into Husker Du I think The NME & Melody Maker kept mentioning them. I remember going to a second hand shop called Weasles records in the red light district of town I was about 15 & this shop had New Day & Metal Circus on the Holy Moly wall for £7.00.. ( that was a lot for a second hand record in 1986, pretty much all records were £3.00!) I bought both & was just bouncing around my room when New Day ended! I had everything within a year!

      Hey Harris! I don’t remember if I mentioned it in the video that the PE album is also the very same copy I bought back then. Was quite fresh album still I think. It was my introduction to PE and loved it, even though I was more of a metal head and a rocker at the time. Maybe Bring Tha Noize helped a little hahah. But my favorite tune on that is still to this day Shut Em Down. The beat is so heavy. You should give it another listen mate. Looking back now, it was a bargain for the two Husker albums. If New Day Rising song doesn’t get a person excited then this person has no pulse 😉 cheers mate. Thanks for dropping by

    Never been a Beck fan, but your description of Colors intrigued me, so I checked it out. Hmmmm, might be something I will check out more. Lots of killer stuff in your history. Very cool.

    • @DrOktober

      Hi Jeff! That Beck album is definitely different from his earlier stuff. He done that lofi alt indie rock blues stuff but also more easily accessible stuff, like this record. I usually don’t like this kind of music but as I said, Colors grew onto me pretty strong. I had to leave out some stuff out from my past just because the video would’ve been too long (i.e. Megadeth, Dark Angel). Thanks for watching! Take care. Cheers

      PE rules! I like all albums by Beck. But this one is slightly different from his other records and I think he pulled it off on this one well. I ve read there’s a lot of criticism towards this album, and I at first didn’t like it much either but it definitely grew on me.

    Oma musiikkimatkana alkaa pahasti näyttää hyvin seniililtä: rockabilly -> hardcore -> thrash/black/doom etc metal -> iskelmä... tai kai siellä jokin sivupolkukin oli, mutta vaikuttaa siltä, että ikä on tehnyt tehtävänsä ja elämä alkaa olla ohi...

    • @DrOktober
      @DrOktober  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nooh ei sitä koskaan tiedä minkälainen musiikkivirus iskee ja sitten mennään taas haha. Rockabilly tuli mulle vasta siinä reilu parikymppisenä ja ei siitäkään genrestä kaikki iske. Mutsi ja faija piti huolen siitä kun kuulin niin paljon suomi iskelmää nuorempana että aina tulee ihottumaa nyt jos kuulen joitain biisejä haha. Piti tästäkin jättää jotain pois muuten olisi tullut liian pitkä video.

    • @TommysVinylnaut
      @TommysVinylnaut ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DrOktober Hah hah... Rockabillyssä mulle toimii 50s ja 70/80s kama. Tämä retrorockabilly ei ole iskenyt - toki psychobilly oli iso 80-luvun puolivälissä. Rockabillyä sai kuunnella automatkoilla, mutta punkille tuli täysi stoppi heti alkuunsa. Ei TK kelvannut... Miksi? Kuvailin eilen omani ja se on ulkona perjantaina... Laitetaanko Bat&Ryyd LP VCLT:nä pakettiin? On ehkä kauheinta ikinä (oli jo silloin aikoinaan)... Kerran yritin kuunnella, että ei tämä niin huono ollut. Oli se. Käsittämätöntä, että ne heittää vieläkin keikkaa...

    • @DrOktober
      @DrOktober  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TommysVinylnaut No perkele unohdin tietty mainita pari suomi punk bändiä esim juuri TK jotka kyllä iski heti mulle. Kun kuulin Mullon Liian Lyhyt Sänky niin oli kova juttu. TK oli mulle mielenkiintoisempi bändi koska kaikki laulut eivät olleet saarnaamista ja sodasta jne. Tietty hyvä sanoma se mutta silloin halusin enemmän kuunnella lauluja kaljan juonnista, tytöistä ja hyvän ajan vietosta. Tai tyhmistä jutuista haha. Bat ja Ryyd LP? No vois sen heittää puiden sekaan kun seuraavan kerran grillaa.

    • @TommysVinylnaut
      @TommysVinylnaut ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DrOktober Jep. Tk:n linja poikkesi muista aikalaisista... Menisi grillauksetkin pieleen, jos B&R levn sinne laittaisi. Parempi siis hillota sitä kaapin perukoilla, etteivät muut altistu sonnalle.
