There was an earlier diss trac called Flick of the Wrist. The manager actually told Roger to stop breaking drumsticks, while hitting the drums, because they couldn't afford to buy more. The band was living in tiny flats, and Mary's salary from Biba was paying the rent for several years, while the managers were buying luxury cars from the money they took from Queen's predatory contracts. John being turned down for a loan to secure a home was the final straw with Freddie. And yes, in concerts he does do a "reverse bow" as a direct message to their former management.
This trac resulted in the band being sued, but in filing a suit against Queen, it became very public exactly who this song was about. John Reid, Elton John's manager, became their new manager and helped get them out of their contract and the financial mess they were in. 3 years later the band was able to take over their own business with John Deacon overseeing their financial interest. They parted with John Reid on good terms. The scene in the movie with Freddie throwing him out of the car was pure fiction.

Legend has it that when Freddie "mooned" the audience during live performances, it was directed at this manager (you can kiss my a** goodbye). I love Freddie!

And the moral of the story is: Never piss off Freddie Mercury. It was Queen's manager who was totally ripping them off. Queen had two or three hit albums out already and the band members were still making minimum wage and the manager was driving a new Rolls Royce. When the band asked for money for John to put a down payment on a home, they were told there was no money and that they actually were not only bankrupt, they owed money. Queen almost disbanded at this time due to the financial issues but they managed to get a new manager and turn things around. Thanks for reacting to this song.

John Deacon approached Norman Sheffield (the manager).....for money to buy a house...the manager said no...John broke the contract....Freddie said that John saved them (John became their financier....and he was also the baby in the band).....the manager’s name is not mentioned in the song...but Norman knew it was about him....he tried to sue the band and failed😁......that’s why in live performances Freddie turns his arse to the crowd as a reminder to Norman of what he missed out on...as we know the band became global stars🤩

"You're a sewer rat decaying in a cesspool of pride" might be the most vicious line ever uttered. You have to listen to this on the album just to hear what follows this song. I'd love to see your reaction to it.

"Liar," by Queen, live. Queen is always best served up live if you can find it. Bohemian Rhapsody, Who Wants to Live Forever, and Princes of the Universe are best on video. You are carrying me right along with your great reactions. It's has been fun watching you go from, "What am I watching, to a true Queen fan!

When Norman Sheffield died in June of 2014, Queen's official TH-cam page released the song on their channel of September of 2014. Brian May and Roger Taylor most likely did this as the last middle finger to rub salt in the wound. That was 100% intentionally done on purpose.

Nothing grates more with me, than people who constantly blow their musical claims out of all proportion! Best guitar solo ever, the best drummer in the world ad nauseum. One thing i've almost maintained after 46 years though, is my belief that there is no better opening track to an album than this verbal assault to another human being. This might not have worked had Freddie just ripped into his victim with no consideration for erudition! Without cursing, this couldn't have been a more direct kick to the gonads if Freddie had tried. Couched in some of the most literate poison one can imagine, the lyrical strength had yet to reach such heights, and set the bar for many future flights of poetic precision! After The Beatles, nobody else came within a country mile than 70's Queen!

The four Queen genius musicians did it GOOD! Roger on drums, John bass, Brian's guitar ripped it up and Freddie's lyrics tied it up in a truth the world would know for sure. Then came Freddie's lyrics and composition of Queens "Bohemian Rhapsody" and Queen was on it's way to all kinds of success that continues even this 30 years after the tragedy of HIV did-in our magnificent Legendary Freddie. But we're holding on to him and them - Legends all!

Probably the 1st ever diss track! Even the music is angry. Freddie was mad because their manager at the time was ripping them off & wouldn’t give newly married John get any money for a down payment on a house. Brian was uncomfortable doing this one. Love it!

Roger said Freddie was angry about the money but it was more about not being respected
They signed a bad deal,Trident were more like middle men
Freddie had two hits but no royalties
They had no royalties for 3 albums
They got a lawyer Beach(later became their manager) and a manger John Reid (75-78) they got them out if the deal and direct with emi who gave them a huge budget for their album night at the opera (bo rap)
Shefield their ex manager tried to sue them in doing so made everyone know who the song was about!

Yes they were broke in the beginning and then got out of that. Thankfully the bass player John Deacon was smart as heck and took over their money issues getting them the money they should have been getting for their hard work and success. Whew Freddie and the whole band were angry when Roger noticed their management head bought a Bentley but told the band Roger couldn’t break anymore drumsticks as it was too costly. Of course these artists made a killer song with their fury instead of resorting to violence 😊.
