it doesn't make sense that a word like Aurora is copyrightable. there are many instances of the word being used for names of various things in different cultural works, like a spaceships game named Star Citizen having "Aurora" being the name for a small entry-level single-person spacecraft.

Super fascinating. I often watch 'kids cartoons' and figure that one person had an idea, ran with it, and there's the show. Thanks to the dedicated fanbase of MLP we can see how much work, time, effort, discussion and changes are made to forge what the creators hope to be a hit. Let's not kid ourselves though, MLP FIM is lightening in a bottle. Even if they 'get the band back together', I don't believe they could match how special this series was and is. So glad we got 9 seasons of this

Okay so the cut ideas for season 9 intrigue me the most. It seems like they had a more sympathetic idea for as to why Discord does what he does throughout the season, but they don't seem to have fully fleshed it out. This idea of "ascension" seems to have been completely forgotten about by the time the final two parter was being written (unless I missed something). The whole elements of disharmony thing could have worked and the whole idea with Midnight Sparkle was somewhat interesting, but it ultimately falls flat. Maybe they could have gone at it from the angle that without harmony there is no magic or something? Therefore undoing the need for there to be an anti-magic element. As much as I like the student six, having the elements get passed on to them would have been a weird choice. Despite me liking them, I feel like they did not get as much time needed to develop. All of the episodes focusing on them were with them as a group and there were very few episodes that focused on just one or two of them. We had a Smolder episode and a Yona episode in season 9 but that's about it. Imagine if we got more episodes like that in season 8 as opposed to stuff like "Non-compete Clause" and "The End in Friend"? Mini rant aside, the fact that the student six are not as fleshed out as they could have been would have made this passing down of the elements feel undeserved, as harsh as that sounds. As for the whole idea with the Mane 6 becoming the literal embodiments of the Elements of Harmony, yeah the way it is explained is kind of silly. I guess they wanted to do something similar with the mega evolution style thing they did in the season 4 finale or just flat out bring it back. Either way, the whole "level up" thing just came off as very silly. These were just early ideas though so its understandable that there are some things that aren't fleshed out very well. Some of the cut ideas for The Last Problem were really great but I can understand why they didn't make the cut. Still though, I feel like the thing with Sunset could have been worked in somehow but oh well. Despite being a cut idea I feel like this is as close to what we'll get in terms of an official conclusion for the EQG end of things. Wouldn't blame anyone for considering the stuff described there as canon. Ultimately, I like what we got with season 9. Really my main issue was that the reasoning behind Discord being Grogar and doing what he does just felt really bad. It honestly nearly ruins him as a character for me. It felt like the writers had a hard time balancing his chaotic nature while also making him a sympathetic character (which makes me really bummed out about that cut episode where he finds a fan of his). All this is why I was really intrigued by the cut concepts for season 9. I can't say I like the proposed ideas better than what we actually got, because these concepts were never fully developed, so I can't really judge them in the same way as what was actually put on screen. That being said I do wish something similar to what was proposed ended up being Discord's motivation for being Grogar. The cut idea was a step in the right direction but had a lot of ironing out and changes needed for it to work. All that being said, this was a very great video going over all these scrapped materials and concepts. I can tell how much research went into making this and the previous cut concepts video. The behind the scenese content that has been leaked or drip-fed by staff is a major rabbit hole to go through and its nice seeing videos like these that cover it in detail!

I'm pretty sure the apple sketch and off-putting balloons could be related to the maze scene with discord and the mane 6 where often objects are taunting them, like apples and balloons with faces, I don't even think they're for a scratched episode considering the balloons and apples show up. It could just be the bowling pins and other weird stuff didn't make it. Might explain the other weird sketches lol like twilight being a bowling pin.

Some of the cut ideas for The Last Problem were really great but I can understand why they didn't make the cut. Still though, I feel like the thing with Sunset could have been worked in somehow but oh well. Despite being a cut idea I feel like this is as close to what we'll get in terms of an official conclusion for the EQG end of things. Wouldn't blame anyone for considering the stuff described there as canon.
Ultimately, I like what we got with season 9. Really my main issue was that the reasoning behind Discord being Grogar and doing what he does just felt really bad. It honestly nearly ruins him as a character for me. It felt like the writers had a hard time balancing his chaotic nature while also making him a sympathetic character (which makes me really bummed out about that cut episode where he finds a fan of his). All this is why I was really intrigued by the cut concepts for season 9. I can't say I like the proposed ideas better than what we actually got, because these concepts were never fully developed, so I can't really judge them in the same way as what was actually put on screen.
That being said I do wish something similar to what was proposed ended up being Discord's motivation for being Grogar. The cut idea was a step in the right direction but had a lot of ironing out and changes needed for it to work.
All that being said, this was a very great video going over all these scrapped materials and concepts. I can tell how much research went into making this and the previous cut concepts video. The behind the scenese content that has been leaked or drip-fed by staff is a major rabbit hole to go through and its nice seeing videos like these that cover it in detail!

I was just watching all the discord episodes recently and the apple monster was DEFINITELY referenced and used in the episode where Big Mac proposes to his girlfriend
I'm pretty sure the apple sketch and off-putting balloons could be related to the maze scene with discord and the mane 6 where often objects are taunting them, like apples and balloons with faces, I don't even think they're for a scratched episode considering the balloons and apples show up. It could just be the bowling pins and other weird stuff didn't make it.
Might explain the other weird sketches lol like twilight being a bowling pin.

Lol, I am working on an mlp fanfic revolving around Twilight, and besides these giving me ideas, I also think it’s crazy and nonsensical that they would make poor Twilight grow so much over a period of overnight. I can’t even imagine the pain. LOL. Who thought of that? Anyways, mine is actually more realistic about Twilight’s growth spurts, LOL.

So that explains a lot about Equestria Girls ending. They originally wanted to put them in the show in the series finale of how do they went but we didn't get to see it sadly because Hasbro says it will be too much. But as long as all we know/acknowledge that the Equestria Girls have their ending too, so be it.
