  • In this video I show you how to crochet a small pumpkin. I show you how to stuff and shape, how to add the lines and crochet the stem. This is a small pumpkin, perfect for your table or mantel as a decoration. It is also the same pattern I used to make the Grumpy Pumpkin that has a face.

    My daughter has just started to crochet and we went to home bargains, but we didn’t have the colours that she wanted to make what she wanted to do. So instead she did a Halloween themed one and this pumpkin was great so just it’s you need to bit of help with the magic ring with another video, but apart from that it was amazing I she didn’t understand magic ring on the video so we just found a different video and then we came back to this one and she’s really enjoying making these pumpkins so I recommend this and you should have a try.

    Love it!!
    When I make my "invisible" decrease (on amigurumis or patterns that are "one sided") I do it a wee bit different, instead of going through a stitch, yarn over and going through the other stitch, I take both front loop stick to be joined, before yarning over, as it creates the image of just one single V in the front ( I know it's hard to picture as I explain it), so instead of three loops in the needle you will always have two single crochet :) it makes it even more "invisible" to my eyes)

    • @SharonOjala
      @SharonOjala  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe you're explaining the inv dec as is done by many. The only reason I don't like that method is the visible line it creates on the finished amigurumi. (If that's the method you're speaking of) I do plan on doing a video one of these days explaining the different ways, pros and cons, to each method. I've always just done the sctog as I never have had an issue with gaps or bumps and if people don't see gaps or bumps in their work then it's a good way to do it. But yes, inv dec with the 2 loops is great too. Whatever works for an individual is always best, of course! :)

    • @ginagaladriel
      @ginagaladriel 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SharonOjala Yes, that's the method I refer to :) , the visible line for me is always in the inside, and the outside looks like single sc (when it's done always in the front look, as when you do it in the back, the visible line is seen in the front), at least for me..; but I'm so glad that you show everyone different methods and each can choose the one that works the best for us ♥♥♥

    • @SharonOjala
      @SharonOjala  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I know what you mean, haha but I'm a bit unsure so one day soon I will give it a try and see if I can get the line on the inside like you say.. it's just never been a method that I liked but then again, I haven't done it in years either. In my patterns when I refer to a dec I say 2tog, that way people can crochet 2 stitches together their own way. I know some will only do an inv dec when decreasing, which is totally cool. As long as you enjoy it and like what you see, then that's the best way ever. Thanks for taking the time to comment about it, It's something that has been on my mind so it's a good reminder to get on it already, lol

      At the beginning of the video (approximately the 0:50 mark), there is a small black box that briefly pops up in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Click on that box. That will bring up 3 different links to the lady’s blog. Click on the one that says GRUMPY PUMPKIN. This is where the pattern is located.
      If you don’t want to do go to her blog, you can do screen shots on your device when the pattern is shown during the video.

    Thank you! With the invisible decrease I saw you pull through all 3 loops. I learnt to pull through 2, yarn over and then pull through the last loop. Am I doing it wrong?

    • @SharonOjala
      @SharonOjala  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, it's not wrong if it works. I found by doing the way you just explained adds a bit of bulk to the stitch.. but then many swear by that method. If you just pull through all 3 loops there's no bulk and no gaps. But again, it's whatever works for you. Try out both ways. Do one way for a row then try the other way. How does it look to you? How does it feel while you complete the stitch? You decide what works best for you. If you enjoy that 1st method and it works for you, keep using it. I hope that helps!

    Okay so why does your magic ring have two loops instead of one? I’ve been crocheting for very long time now and this is literally the first time that I have ever seen a magic ring done this way.

    • @SharonOjala
      @SharonOjala  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      there's different ways to create the ring, use the method that works for you. I learned the double ring years ago, I love it and it works so well for me. I have a couple videos showing the different ways, I always say to use what is best for yourself.

    • @angielivery2
      @angielivery2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I’ve been crocheting since I was 8. I’m 34 now and the way she does it is also the way I was taught to make my magic ring. I find that when you loop it twice it’s also harder for it to fall apart on you after your items are made.

    Also, DON’T WORK IN A SPIRAL!
    THIS PROJECT LOOKS BETTER WHEN JOINING AFTER EACH ROUND INSTEAD OF WORKING IN A CONTINUOUS SPIRAL!

    • @SharonOjala
      @SharonOjala  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      amigurumi is usually done in a spiral so we don't get the joining line. That line is unsightly but, as in any craft, you can do what suits you best. If you are making amigurumi for display or for photo props then you will have a good and bad side. You won't want to show the side with the joining line. If you work in a spiral, it won't matter which side as it'll look good all around.

      1) all caps is like yelling at someone. 2) working in a spiral gives a better finished project.
