I love that you noticed her putting down her stick. Not only is she a great songwriter, great drummer, great singer, but she's so incredibly expressive even being stuck behind the kit. Incredible performer (like the rest of them, but being on the drums doing that as well adds a certain.... magic !)
This was their first time performing it live (that’s basically what Pau is saying to the crowd during the intro). On a personal level, it was my first live Warning concert, in their hometown of Monterrey. 🇲🇽❤️. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. Been to about 20 shows since. I’m a Warning fan for life.

Malincista is a Mexican prejorative, used against people that have a preference for American culture over their own culture. It is a reference to La Malinche, who betrayed her people by assisting the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire. It is an extremely loaded and powerful term, by the sounds of it. The way Pau uses it in the chorus to throw it back in the faces of their critics is stunning. She's fearless.
Their lyrics are as strong as any other aspect of the band. And given that they are typically written in their second language is amazing. This was their first song written in Spanish. They've since written another, Martirio, which is also very strong. I don't speak a word of Spanish, but both of these songs are favourites.
Calling someone Malinchista for not singing in Spanish is the height of irony. They are vastly better cultural ambassadors for Mexico than those critics.

I think that it is a Mexican pejorative, used against people that have a preference for ANY culture over their own culture... It does get drawn into the song writing in English but that is another part of the story.....

Pau's raw power, fury, and anger, is impressive. As a songwriter, she is deep; Paul Simon and John Lennon deep.
IDK, but I think everyone in Mexico knows this song by now. It hurt them on a deeply personal level that their critics were calling them "Malinchistas", basically cultural traitors. And it's funny, but when they performed this in concert over the past year in the US and Canada, many in the audience were singing along with them in Spanish. There were even shows where they had a guest drummer sit in so that Pau could come out front and sing. One was Pau's drum teacher, Beto Ramos, at their show in Mexico City at the Teatro Metropolitan. The others were toward the end of their tour as openers for Halestorm where Arejay Hale honored them by sitting in at Pau's drum kit. So, they truly are cultural ambassadors of their language and culture even though almost all of their songs are performed in English. Their other officially released song in Spanish, Martirio, is one of the most moving pieces of rock music I've ever heard. You really don't need to understand the lyrics to be hit directly in the "feels". At the end of their second show at Teatro Metropolitan, after all the amazing crowd participation and outpouring of love they received, Pau was moved to tears and buried her face in Ale's shoulder as she received a hug from her "little' sister. Being accepted by their people for what they do and love to do is that important to them.
Ale' being the "big sister" to Pau is one of the most heart warming things I have seen in years! Pau truly lays herself out there and her passion shows so strongly. Ale', the stoic one, was really the rock for her sister at that time! 🥰🥰🥰

The warning just dropped a professionaly shot version of Narsasista with a guest drummer so Pau can be the front woman. Its the August 2022 live at Teatro Metropolitan CDMX. 😊
All their originals but this and Martirio are in English. Blows my mind that they are bilingual. I was lucky enough to see them perform both in Las Vegas (Brooklyn Bowl) last October.
Most teen girls would wilt under the pressure of being publicly labeled as cultural traitors. But these young ladies are just cut different.

Nice reaction, thank you. For me, it's striking that Pau can have a voice that moves the deepest feelings (as in The End, Black Holes, The Revenant, etc.) or, on the contrary, a great aggressiveness as in this song, where the Villarreal sisters put a stop to the critics of the band.
It's even better when they get a guest drummer and Pau gets out from behind the drum kit. Somewhere, there is a Broadway show missing its star when she fronts the band.

There are a number of new live versions of songs from The Warning’s latest album which were recorded in the summer. They are slowly being rolled out to everyone and the quality is amazing. Most bands manage to write 2 or three great songs, great bands manage 10 or 20, with the Warning every song they have written is great. They simply don’t write bad songs. Incredible band.

The Warning is the total package, all the talents they display for their fans is the very complete definition of Upness. 💯 I always enjoy seeing people's reactions to the warning because when they see how good they are blown away. Unless their musical soul is dead 😆 😉 😜
This band means more to me than any other I have ever encountered. After many unsuccessful attempts searching for a band that moves me to the core, and is a proper fit for me, The Warning entered my life, and renewed my love for music. But it was more than just music that they offered. Nobody else had the real heart felt drive, the honest and natural talent expressed with vocals, instruments, and genuine integrity I was lacking. They never had to "Sell" me their goods, as their goods sold itself. I wasted so much time and effort, giving to those that never truly appreciated it. They took took took, but never gave back anything of real substance. TW ladies changed that, and was there for me when I about gave up hope. They didn't brush me off like others that used me like an ATM. Instead they supported me with kindness, passion, and reignited that candle made of pure hope, asking for noting in return. I say they have already reached greatness, and anything from here is just icing on top. 🤘❤🔥🤘

Absolutely. This song is so well written. The breaks, the tempo variations, setting everything up for Dany’s solo which is so spectacularly delivered. They are mind boggling in so writing talent and this was a hard song for them a to write in Spanish but boy did they deliver.

Love it. You know, you talked about how great it would be to see this live, you are SO RIGHT. If the crowd is into it, that bit after the guitar solo, Pau will just point at the audience and everyone in the audience will sing NA NA, NA NA-NA NA NA NAAA right back at her and it's fantastic. This song is so f'in punk rock, it's a raised middle finger, it's one of my faves.

Es una canción para sus haters en general, pues la frase "detrás de las cortinas ellos siguen hablando" es acerca de una banda q las crítico en un concierto y su mamá los escuchó, es obvio q habla de backstage, también "dicen q soy egoísta, condenada narcisista" son adjetivos q les han dicho, la parte de "malinchista" es obvio q es para quienes la critican por cantar en inglés.

The lyrics explain why Pau gestures her critics away dismissively at certain points of the song & covers her ears to cut the shit out. Apparently her mother, after reading Pau's 1st draft, was reluctant to let the band play Narcisista in public. They were 19, 17 & 14 at this concert in June, 2019 where they debuted this song - their 1st one in Spanish.
How many 17 year olds have the guts to lash out publicly at her critics who denounced The Warning for singing in English only?

Great reaction, Pau is my favorite drummer, she is super versatile, composition, singing, show and obviously how great she is with her instrument, by the way the song is not a big finger in the middle as some think, it is like a subtle way of saying that she does not care about the things her critics say but in fact she never offends them or anything like that.

Glad to see you back. I wondered where you had gone... You have given a lot of attention to bands that I count among my favorites, including The Warning, Band Maid, Lovebites... It makes me think of one other band that you should review, unless you did already and I just missed it. The band is called Asterism. They are an instrumental trio from Japan. Some reviewers regard their guitarist as the best of them all to come out of Japan. When you consider that the competition includes Midori, Miyako and Kanami, that counts as high praise. Even if you don’t react to them, you should watch the pro-shot videos (there are 4 available) from their concert at Teatro Metropolitan CDMX (Metropolitan Theater in Mexico City). There are fantastic live versions of Disciple, Enter Sandman, Choke, and Animosity (the other song written after someone pissed off Pau!)…
animosity is my favorite song so I have to thank whoever made it angry😂
An interviewer asked Pau what sparked Animosity. She said she was mad but she was over it, the way a woman says, "it's fine". Watching her in the GNR aftermovie saying "Pax, pax, pax.." I would never want to cross her!

I'm portuguese and it always amaze me how clear sounding is the mexican spanish compared to spanish from.my neighbour country of Spain. I understood every word she sanf even when i dont what they mean.
Fsntastic performance by the girls. Spanish is a great language to sing a rock song if the intention is to ho kick ass and take names as this song do clearly proves.
