Hi Sky Blue, thank you for watching Rinpoche`s video. Please do check out Rinpoche`s blog www.tsemrinpoche.com. There are lots of dharma teachings and good content on the site. 🙏🙏🙏
9:44 Yes. We can do EXACTLY what he does. Of course! In so far as he perfected the instruction manual; we absolutely shouldn't approach 'doing dharma' from the premise that we can't do it 'exactly'!
1:02 Well that's not strictly true. The bodhisattva vows require that one be 'willing' to break minor vows. And without the firm foundation of Sutra, Tantra will bear little fruit. 1:26 There is no negativity in anger, hate and desire. It is the way in which they are directed which classifies whether they are negative or positive. 'Attachment' and lust are also beneficial if used correctly. Revenge is never good. And 'retaliation' is banned in the bodhisattva vows. 1:38 The wrathful deities of tantra cannot be practiced effectively without a complete assimilation of sutrayana and bodhisattvayana and perfectly held bodhisattva vows and as high a realisation of Emptiness as possible. Sutrayana (eg; Lamrim) enables us to build bodhicitta and wisdom realising Emptiness. Without bodhicitta and wisdom realising Emptiness, there is little point in entering into highest Yoga Tantra. Of course, Kriya Tantra is ALWAYS beneficial at any level. Highest Yoga Tantra requires the holding of the tantric vows, which require the holding of the bodhisattva vows. Even with perfect bodhicitta and the holding of the tantric vows perfectly; still wisdom realising Emptiness is required to attain the results. Highest Yoga Tantra is not for the 'elimination' of anger and lust; but for the 'transmutation' of these emotions into a more powerful, CORRECTLY directed version of the ordinary samsaric version of these emotions. (See the five Dhyani Buddhas). As Atisha states: broken bodhisattva vows represent a huge level of negativity and should be strongly purified. But he states that broken tantric vows represent a level of negativity, the karma of which is not even worth imagining! In this respect, the Tantric Path is not ONLY the 'swift' path; it is also the 'dangerous' path. By the time we enter the Annuttarayoga tantras; we really should have INDESTRUCTIBLE bodhicitta. Wisdom realising Emptiness we can build as we study the tantra. But the bodhicitta should be there from the outset. 1:46 Ideally; one has transformed the negativities with Sutrayana, Bodhisattvayana and Kriya Tantra. If one enters into Highest Yoga Tantra prior to this; it will be very difficult to hold the tantric vows which is far from ideal. Of course broken vows can be purified with Heruka Vajrasattva; but then one is trying to keep the commitments whilst struggling to hold the vows and constantly doing purification. And the 'self-generation' will be very weak. 1:49 Rinpoche is always talkin' about the 'beautiful' face. A vajrayogini is not 'beautiful'. She is who she is. 'Beautiful faces' are worldly considerations. Of course thangkas and rupas are always beautiful for inspiration; but this has nothing to do with worldly beauty. If Rinpoche speaks like this; he will draw practitioners who want to achieve a beautiful face!! Vajrayogini is seriously not running a beauty parlour! 😳 2:06 No. 'Transmute' anger. Not destroy. Transmute anger into rage. Vajrayana emotions are upgraded. They morph from the weak samsaric version into 'super-emotions' which are correctly directed. 'Hatred' is misdirected anger. And 'ignorance' is not an emotion. But Emptiness realisation does require the philosophical study as well. Usually the monks do not even go into the tantric college until they have completed the 16 year Geshe degree. 2:47 Not destruction of 'desire'. Destruction of 'lust'. These are not the same thing. Desire is desire. Lust is sex for sex's sake. Sexual 'continence' does not represent the subjugation of 'desire'. It represents 'control' over the energies. Again; the desire is a transmutation of lust and correctly directed. And again; if one understands the tantric vows correctly; the vows include the vow of celibacy. Celibacy until one reaches the completion stages. So although we vow to NEVER abandon the two types of mudra right up until the time of death; we vow to maintain perfect and absolute celibacy. 3:22 No. The better definitions are: 'attachment', 'revulsion' and 'ignorance.' The mind that is mega-attracted to an object whilst repulsing another; and the ignorance of the ultimate nature of reality. Eg; attachment craves to be with the 'beautiful' woman whilst revulsion rejects the 'ugly' woman. Attachment craves to have a circle of friends who are always praising us, whilst revulsion avoids friends who have a lot of problems and need a lot of help. 'Worldly grasping' and 'worldly repulsion; as generated from the ignorance of ultimate reality. Which is why the pig of ignorance is spitting the cockrel of attachment and the snake of revulsion simultaneously from his mouth. Since grasping can only exist in conjunction with repulsion. 3:37 Well ok. But no deity practice should be undertaken with the intent of 'leaving' Samsara or 'ascending' to the paradise of the deity. Only with the intent of 'the liberation of all sentient beings'!! Leaving Samsara or ascending to Kechara are neither here nor there! When bodhicitta is at the center of the practice; these 'side-effects' are automatic bi-products of heartfelt genuine practice! As Pabongka Rinpoche tells us: "Give up this life in your mind! And give up the grasping for a better future life in your mind!" We are not trying to ascend to heaven! We are trying to arise as Vajrayogini to go and liberate the hell realms! If we are not willing to go to Vajrahell to liberate beings; then it's not good to practice Vajrayogini/Chakrasamvara! 😳 To be a vajrayogin or a vajrayogini is to be willing to take on vajrahell! 😳 3:50 Ok. But here; we have to be SERIOUSLY realistic! We no longer have 7 lifetimes or 16 lifetimes and these things! That was in the good old days! Now! It'll be an absolute miracle if we get 1 or 2! Don't forget that the 'precious' human rebirth is born 'outside' of slavery! Because slavery doesn't allow for practice! 😳 And the 'precious' human rebirth, as opposed to an 'ordinary' human rebirth; relies on an overall 'status quo' which is no longer available as things stand. 4:48 Nobody; but nobody! Should enter into Annuttarayoga tantra without the FULL intent of attaining the deity in this lifetime; including the completion stage. If one practices with the attitude that one is not going to make it in this lifetime, but at least will be reborn with conducive circumstances; then one has ALREADY made the decision that one is not going to attain anything in this lifetime. This means that one has no bodhicitta and is in no hurry to liberate all sentient beings. One is lacking the required self-confidence and sense of urgency. If one apporaches with a 'in this lifetime' attitude and fails; then of course one will have earnt the merits which Rinpoche defines. But these merits should not be the 'reason' for practice! 😳 The TARGET in tantra is: "May I swiftly swiftly, in this very life! Liberate all sentient beings." NOT: "I'll do this practice because I'm not good enough to achieve anything but at least I'll be reborn in heaven."!! This attitude is very very negative; and will most certainly NOT land one in Kechara! 😳 Which is why I feel that ideally; one will not enter into Annuttarayoga until one can stand up and say: "I have INDESTRUCTIBLE bodhicitta!" This is precisely why His Holiness chose to 'restrict' the practice of Dorje Shugden. Because as he explained in the Geshe conferences; bodhicitta is FUNDAMENTAL to the practice. Unless one has the same level of bodhicitta as Pabongka Rinpoche; one should not practice the practices that he practiced JUST because he practiced them! 😳 Will you go into a death fight in Kung Fu just because you love Bruce Lee?!
10:23 Ok. But my understanding of the dharma protectors; is that they are usually practiced by a monastery rather than by the individual in order to protect the entire monastery. There is a huge difference between a monastery and a dharma center. A monastery is like one mind. Like a beehive. A dharma center is rather a large collections of individuals. In my experience; in the west; you can never attain this one mind beehive like in the monastery in India whilst doing pujas or retreats. That's not to say that the energy is not strong and great; but always the individual egos are there in a way that I never saw in the gompa in the monastery. But isn't the dharma protection practiced in the Lama Chopa tsog offering?
Namo Gurubhya Namo Buddhaya Namo Dharmaya Namo Sanghaya! Namo Triratnaya! Om Vajrayogini Hum Phat!
I could stare at Vagra Yogini forever.
Thanks always.
