They're not "Hard Core", they played a style of Punk Rock called "Hardcore" invented by their mentors, the Bad Brains.

Agree, they were not biting a style, they carved their own path and started well before rap was a real industry. There will never be another.

interesting fact, that concert footage in this video is from Boneroo, which was the last Beastie Boys concert ever, not long after that show, MCA announced he had cancer and he died a while after that. So this video is extra sad.

I was a teenager and remember hearing echoes of "Broken glass, everywhere" for a year or so, and a friend or two actually had a Run DMC cassette, "its tricky, my adidas, you talk too much", LL Coo J was Bad and so cool, and We had heard "Cookie Puss" and were just kinda like Okay. Once these guys got started, I put down the Kool moe dee, the Third bass, and no Van Winklly was gonna stand a chance in a Rico Suave hell. I have been a strict Beastie boy fan for my rap diet since Paul's Boutique. There are no substitutes.

Maybe my best cd purchase EVER was The Beastie Boys - Anthology: The Sounds of Science. My mind was blown as a pre teen because it opened me up to so many sounds and their catalogue of music. 2 discs of pure genius. I later bought every cd they had and have been enjoying their music ever since. Timeless music imo

Yo Shaka, much respect for your channel and your craft. Keep it up, bro. I love the Beasties because they were the OG crew that opened the door for me into the world of hip hop that I would've been too intimidated to open myself as a punk ass teen in 1987. Thanks to them I was brought to Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Kool Moe Dee, LL, Nas, Public Enemy, etc. They opened that door and never lost sight of who they were and who their influences were. Humble, real, and talented as fuck. No equal.

The Beastie Boys assault you with lyrics, fast paced and always with energy!
Also they drop pop references that make you look them up. And, from their Ill Communication album.....Ad Rock in The Scoop: "because I'm on time, you shoutin' rewind" .......so true, I'd have to rewind endless times over the years to catch it all.

ShakaShine, Great review. I like what you said in the beginning it made me think of how we all have different life experiences, so we do not all understanding things the same way. That’s part of the reason almost everyone will say Eminem has technical ability off the charts, but some of those same people say I don’t drive around and bump his music. I feel blessed to have been born in the states but started Kindergarten in the Caribbean and stayed till 5th grade. I was the only blond hair blue eyed kid in my classes full of small human beings and not till I moved back to FL did I witness that some people do not know we are all the same when it’s all said and done. So, I have always felt comfortable everywhere and my first favorite music is reggae. But I have loved the Beasties from the first. I understand why some do not relate to them, but their skills can not be denied. DIY all the way, they produce their music and videos, play the instruments when they want, dig deep in the crates for samples. This song made me go back and look at Nas again because I was on some other vibe when Illmatic came out. Almost totally missed a gem if not for this song.
I talk to much sorry. I hope I did not get to far off topic. Just felt expressive and I dug your vibe. Respect
Thx for the review and her are the answers to your questions.
Why do I like them? I feel like they always stayed true to themselves. They never pretended to be somebody they were not (1st album maybe a little). Blazed their own trail, owned the violent misogynistic early material made amends and grew.
    Favorite lines in no order.
Adrock “Because I'm back with a bang, boogie, oogie-oogie
Strawberry Letter 23 like Shuggie” I had no idea what he was talking about and had to look it up. Well…"Strawberry Letter 23" is a 1971 song written and composed by Shuggie Otis from his 1971 album Freedom Flight. It is best known by the 1977 cover version recorded by the Brothers Johnson and produced by Quincy Jones. Never heard it you are missing out.
MCA “Stay up all night, and I MC and never die. Cause death is the cousin of sleep” Obvious reference to Nas line on Illmatic.
Nas “I'm broader than Broadway, I was the project hallway. Dual tape recorder, lacin' oratorials all day”
Paint a good picture of him in project hallways with less than top quality equipment working at it all day. Also Beasties use the line broader than Broadway in Hello Brooklyn along with Barrington Levy - Here I Come (Broader Than Broadway)
Mike D “Rockin' stadiums and shitty bars Go back in time, send a fax from my car” All true to his experience in life.
