This guy doesn’t know what he is talking about. Take apart your motor and clean it. There is stuff stuck in it, this way the humming will go away. Also if you want 100% quietness just put sound proof black foams on the sides and the back of the file tee on the outside.

I tried this on the Aqueon quiet flow and most of my fish died. Hindering the flow stops the bubbles/agitation which stops oxygenating the water. If you do this, get an air stone so that there is still a constant flow of oxygen
I just fill my tank right up to the water line or where the water comes out the filter. I don't hear anything but the motor. I have a marineland penguin 350 and it tends to be a louder filter. Also helps to replace all the plastic bits and put in soft media like sponges in place. Much better ♡
I had the same filter. I removed the filter media from the grimy piece. I replaced it with a longer piece and cut slips to fit. It's long enough to go into the water and has almost no sound at all and a good spot for more beneficial bacteria to grow. Took about 30 seconds and didn't use a drop of glue.
Happened to me and my family when we first assembled it, literally sounded like it was gonna explode and it was crackling but then my mom said we should try putting more water and now it’s almost silent except for the water noise which is so relaxing. I love it
@@EezoTheChezo yup. i put water into my tank and planned on adding more the next day, when i turned on the filter it was very loud. put more water in the next day and my filter turned off and turned on pumping out water and it was a lot quieter.
Thanks I just used some hydroponic sponges for seed starting that I had on hand and it didn’t silent it just kinda made the sound less bothersome since the dispersion of the water is different but not obstructed
I had HOB filters years ago (all that was available at the time) and am not a fan of them or sponge filters. I have three tanks two of which are on canister filters and my 70-litre tank uses an internal. 😊👌

Derek Arneecher I’m not sure, I had the same problem. I think those filters are just loud like that because I have taken mine apart and could never find a solution. I just ended up taking that filter down because of the noise
I assume you are talking about saltwater and the purple color is a type of algae that grows on it. I’m not sure how long it takes but I used dry rock in my tank and it’s been about 10 months and it’s still not purple.

Top filters and hang on back filters are the noisiest especially when the tank is in the bedroom.. which will definitely disrupt sleep lol .. best are still internal filters which are way quieter.. 😆
@@evilcrime5724 I fixed mine today. I cut a side off a big Crystal Geyser 1 gallon water jug & made sure it was long enough to reach the water & wide enough for the width of the filter opening. I had some clear flex tape & attached it to the edge of the filter where the water falls out. It worked & looks like a waterfall due to the bottle design. Maybe it will work for you guys too!
I don't know if you still need a solution but I invented a solution tonite that is super cheap and takes no time to install. I'll make a video in the future about it to share to the Aquarium community.. it's quite amazing because it's so simple. I'm not going to put any spoilers here for now.
Decreasing the water flow decreases the filtration in my opinion. Keeping the tank filled and extending the outflow into the water would also solve the problem while maintaining good flow and filtration for the tank.
Dude, you don't have a filter cartridge In there. Where it says FRONT your supposed to have a white pack of biological filter media encased in white plastic.
And also the water is just getting pumped up through the pump and isn't even touching the small amount of foam media you have at the bottom of the filter, so nothing is getting filtered.

my tank came with the "quiet" 10 and holy crap it vibrates! even tried the vaseline impeller and random foam to lift it off the tank

My aquaclear is usually quiet but the little water fall split and the right side drops in rapid water drops and it makes so much noise
"Quiet flow" likely means the actual flow is quiet as in you dont have water splash effects or at least not as loud ones

Derek Arneecher You could try a tank with no filter and just a circulation pump. That’s what I’m doing with mine after I took the filter out.

Lol, I noticed that too,,,, I have same filter mine is ok not loud just a very gentle hum, hardly notice it. I guess some are loud some are not.
