since there seems to be a misunderstanding in the comments and elsewhere as to what "sigma" means. alpha's lead, beta's follow, sigma's have no desire to lead and no inclination to follow. so they do their own thing. neither this bateman character, nor 98% of those who identify as sigma's, actually are. some wish they were alpha's, which means they DO have desire to lead, they just cant find any followers. and those who follow trends of any sort, obviously follow. it seems like a simple enough issue, yet few in this society properly grasp it. a beta, who long's to be an alpha, cant be a sigma. and killing people doesnt constitute "doing your own thing". there is nothing whatsoever about being sigma in this film, and those who believe otherwise completely miss various points.
Yeah I think the entire thing that links this to "sigma" is the people just making fun of "sigma" and using a clearly and obvious piece of shit as their smear of them.
Here are some sigma males: Socrates, Diogenes the cynic, Einstein, ... ect. People who dont lead or follow are generally social outcasts or strange people. Sometimes they are brilliant. Sometimes they are mentally ill. They reject societies rules and often struggle because of it.
Most people don't go in knowing this is a black comedy and a lot of it goes over their heads, but they definitely pick up on something weird about it. I still think you got distracted by what was literally happening on screen and kind of missed the comedy of it, partly because you cut out a lot of the funniest moments. Your video title says it's insanely funny but you didn't laugh much.
You keep using the term 'sigma-males.' This is a commentary on how the enormously wealthy, nepotistic stockbroker yuppies of the era are all actually hedonistic psychos with zero empathy for others. It's a satire of class, not gender, especially considering the portrayal of Evelyn and Courtney are about as narcissistic and fake and empty as he is. Though the twist in this story is that Bateman's psychopathy is ramped up to being a literal murderous cannibal, the point remains. 10:57 - 11:25 Of course you agree with it; it's the kind of rhetoric every celebrity and social climber has used for the past 50 years, and the people saying it are just as sincere as Bateman. Bret Easton Ellis wrote this novel after hanging out with a bunch of vapid, wealthy socialites like this, and that's the kind of conversations they have; that's where his inspiration came from. I've always felt the fact of whether or not Patrick imagined the killings or not to be up for debate. The realtor could've been just covering up the murder to keep up the value of the property, the lawyer could've mistaken one of the other businessmen for Paul Allen, as these rich yuppies so often do throughout the film, but it ultimately doesn't change the ending either way: Patrick suffers no consequences, so he will continue to gain no self-knowledge and live an utterly fake, meaningless life.
If you want a really great Leo Dicaprio movie, watch The Aviator. True story, and such an incredible film, and one hell of a story. Not to mention the phenomenal acting
Hearing rumors that they're gearing up for a remake of this - which is utterly insane to me.. there are a few titles out there that basically became their own zeitgeist.. this movie is one of those.
They also already made a shitty sequel to this in the early 2000s with Mila Kunis, out of all people. As far as I know, it was originally not even supposed to be a sequel to Amercian Psycho but the studio had the rights to it and decided to make it a sequel so it would sell more.
Brett Easton Ellis has this one line he wrote in ‘Rules of Attraction’ that always stuck with me…. So I’m sitting on a bed with this hippie chick. She turns to me and says ‘You know what, the world really blows my mind,’ and you know what? I f’d her anyway.

The story behind the making of this film, with Leonardo DiCaprio almost getting the role, is fascinating! I always considered this movie quite the comedy. There was this story about its inception, in which Christian Bale and director Mary Harron both started cracking up while reading the script, it’s absurdity is the beauty of it and I agree hahah 😅😂😂
the true definition of a sigma male is someone who doesn't care about being an alpha or beta, but gets the same respect or even more than an alpha does. patrick bateman constantly was insecure about his status and image and it's why he killed people, so he's actually a beta. the whole thing with "you are alpha, beta, sigma" whatever is just really childish and those videos that use bateman as some kind of rolemodel are probably teenage boys who have no idea what they're talking about. if they had any clue, they'd put someone like the actor charles bronson instead, he was a true sigma without ever caring about any of that.
I would be surprised if you could do one underrated movie called Seven Psychopaths. His other 3 movies is good too but seven psychopaths is the most fun to watch 😁
Little tip for ya, Dollface. If you interrupt your own viewing/reaction to mess with the video settings, go back a bit to make sure you don't miss anything like Patrick's reaction to Paul Allen's card (literally the most iconic part of the film that everyone wants to see in a reaction) or how bewildered he was looking at his gun after he somehow blew up the cop car with it. Which adds to the already questionable nature to the things he's been able to do.

Cool reaction! This definitely is a fascinating and hilarious film. But yeeah this whole movie is a satire on high class wall street businessmen of the 80's. Patrick Bateman is supposed to be an exaggerated personification of this type of man in that world, and the joke is that the society he's in is so shallow, superficial, materialistic and self absorbed that they cannot even see an obvious serial killer among them 😂 cos yeeah.. he's not subtle or even smart at all. Even when committing a murder in the stairwell of this apartment complex, no one comes out because no one cares. Paul Allen (Jared Leto) was definitely killed. His lawyer simply mistook someone as him. That's another consistent joke in this movie. Everyone is so self absorbed and even look the damn same with the same style of clothing and fasion.. that they mistake each other very easily. And the apartment was being repainted to be sold, that realtor was playing dumb and "subtly" implying she knows he's the killer and threatening him to leave. Again materialistic gain is much more important to people in this society. With all these people covering sh*t up, it wouldn't be a surprise that many other people are serial killers. They all just happen to target people who don't matter. The whole detective plot all started because Patrick f*cked up by killing someone who matters. But yeeah its a really entertaining movie.
The sigma male thing started as a joke but then morons took it over unironically. Ignoring the fact that people were using it to poke fun at certain types of people. Not surprising, considering the types seek validation from one another to continue their idiocy and behavior.

Here are some sigma males: Socrates, Diogenes the cynic, Einstein, ... ect. People who dont lead or follow are generally social outcasts or strange people. Sometimes they are brilliant. Sometimes they are mentally ill. They reject societies rules and often struggle because of it.
To The one and only Abby Jane as Always Keep up the great work with your Amazing Movie Reaction s
This movie is more relevant than ever. Narcissists like Bateman are a dime a dozen now. But they are influencers not serial killers.
I’ve never seen a female reactor who is aware of the whole sigma male thing with American Psycho. Lol.
4:46 “shes not ugly” i died here 😂 i was like, thats really all you took away from his statement 😂
Don't just stare at it, eat it
Most people don't go in knowing this is a black comedy and a lot of it goes over their heads, but they definitely pick up on something weird about it.
34:57 The other neighbors just dont want to be involved.
Happy to see you reacting to this classic Christian Bale movie
Holy yap in the beginning. 99% of big people just are too lazy or have no motivation.
If you want a really great Leo Dicaprio movie, watch The Aviator. True story, and such an incredible film, and one hell of a story. Not to mention the phenomenal acting
Jared Leto has an excellent filmography watch panic room, requiem for a dream, and Lord of War
Great reaction n new subscriber
Thank you!
Hearing rumors that they're gearing up for a remake of this - which is utterly insane to me.. there are a few titles out there that basically became their own zeitgeist.. this movie is one of those.
It's not a remake of the movie, it's a new adaptation of the book
@@samuelmorales2136 True.. but the point still stands - new adaption or outright remake.
They also already made a shitty sequel to this in the early 2000s with Mila Kunis, out of all people. As far as I know, it was originally not even supposed to be a sequel to Amercian Psycho but the studio had the rights to it and decided to make it a sequel so it would sell more.
@@vampyre_with_a_suntan I’ve seen that! Apparently Jacob Elordi might be playing the role
Brett Easton Ellis has this one line he wrote in ‘Rules of Attraction’ that always stuck with me….
So I’m sitting on a bed with this hippie chick. She turns to me and says ‘You know what, the world really blows my mind,’ and you know what? I f’d her anyway.
It's less satire and more dark comedy.
He continues the charade at 16:21 and 13:10 because 10:35 and doesnt want to be reminded of being 17:13 and 39:02
They use DiCaprio’s role Jordan Belfort
I've seen several reactions to this. Every single one, when Bateman kills the homeless man, it's basically business as usual for the reactor. He kills the dog and it's the worst thing they've ever seen. Pretty concerning TBH...
@@thenjry maybe bc he was taunting the homeless man so you saw it coming, whereas the dog was just next to him and he just turned around and hurt the dog unexpectedly
I love watching this with blonde's 😂 i cant emphasize the word blonde enough.... BLONDE!
I had to turn off. She kept pausing and talking😢
Please react to Mulholland Drive. It is amazing movie. And it is my favourite. I would like to see your reaction to this movie.
you should watch The Prestige Abby, also with Christian Bale in it haha
the true definition of a sigma male is someone who doesn't care about being an alpha or beta, but gets the same respect or even more than an alpha does. patrick bateman constantly was insecure about his status and image and it's why he killed people, so he's actually a beta. the whole thing with "you are alpha, beta, sigma" whatever is just really childish and those videos that use bateman as some kind of rolemodel are probably teenage boys who have no idea what they're talking about. if they had any clue, they'd put someone like the actor charles bronson instead, he was a true sigma without ever caring about any of that.
Tabloid talk is rather unpleasant...

I would be surprised if you could do one underrated movie called Seven Psychopaths. Not many movies i have seen that's a blast to watch but this is definitely one of them, the comedy, story, humor is just 👌
This director Martin McDonagh is actually pretty good,it's not his movie though but the one i enjoyed the most. His other 3 movies is good too but seven psychopaths is the most fun to watch 😁
9:35 "it's just the gym" YES bless you ❤
i so miss this attitude in a lot of things
Well, he is breathing because he is not really dead.
This character isn't sigma, he's insane, depends on material, nonsense and what everybody thinks about him.

You can become addicted to working out, plus many people make a hobby or whatever their whole personality. You're young and I assume your friends are young too, so the guy will grow out of it. Don't worry about it, just be patient and try to remind them of who they actually are, which is not their hobby.

Definitely check out Jared Leto in Requiem for a dream. Oh and you have a lovely accent!
Watch Prestige next it has both Bale and Hugh Jackman and it's really Amazing
Most sigma male stuff are just jokes and memes but for the people living it.. they're basically the male version of women who see themselves as independent queens that don't need any men. I hope you got the same energy for them though because it's just as ridiculous and toxic
@@hyplix241 I mean for me being a red pill incel with a superiority complex is much worse that a woman wanting to be independent idk… 🤨
@@AbbyJaneReacts redpill incel is different from a sigma. What people normally mean with sigma is just a dude that goes their own way, they try to help others I guess but they don't want to be influenced by others or ever depend on anyone else. The redpill stuff is another level of retardation, I agree with you there. At least it's my interpretation that they're different. Maybe some people say they're both redpill and sigma idk I guess someone could be both at once.

It’s weird that they are 2 completely different books/movies but American Psycho and FIght Club are 2 of the greatest examples of Satire that I can think of and ironically they are both very popular with the “Sigma Male” community
