  • Dual aquarium sponge filters work great because they filter your aquarium and don’t have too much surface agitation. Having very little surface movement enables you to utilize Floating Aquarium Plants. Using Floating Plants super underrated type of filtration in this hobby.
My review on dual sponge filters is very positive. I utilize this type of sponge filter in 90% of my aquariums in the house. And that being said, I have over 50 aquarium set up right now and that says a lot. I plan on adding these every Plant Aquarium that I set up in the future as well.

I have one for my 20 gallon and it has the holders for carbon or whatever you choose that the water goes through. The unit is from Hygger. Easy to clean. Works great!!

I personally like these as someone with many tanks because if I need a cycled sponge for a quarantine tank ASAP, I can just pick one out of an established tank and swap it with an uncycled one (Brand new, not exposed to anything).

I bought one of those, the suction cups blow! They definitely do not suck hahah. Mine wouldn't stay on the glass longer than a day, the ceramic media did keep it submerged tho.

  • @AQUAGUYUK

Best to get one large as no suckers and more area having said that there are new twists to this now one being pump assisted and others having little media baskets

I have one of those in a 5 gallon but I love using them for all of my tanks because I can switch just one of the two entire sponges and biomedia together with a new tank to instantly cycle it and sometimes I just switch two tanks willy-nilly just cause

I got rid of all my dense polishing foam sponges and replaced them with reticulated foam sponges. Nice design. I would definitely consider if less porous sponge. Especially for quarantine tank.

What wattage air pump does it need for that or the ones with the biomedia in double filters

I need it because I started using poly fill and the poly fill is leaving little clear hairs all thru my water.

I know all about these. You aren't wrong. I just get over spending a bit more on a HOB. They take up virtually zero space.
I just convert them all to non-chemical filtration.
That's just me though. If you need a cheap filter quick, or can't afford one.
Get this duel filter. Just can't get over the inside my tank part. I don't even use bubblers.

I bet you could just take a soldering iron to melt through a lower PPI sponge for a tight fit. You can basically just widdle it like wood if you want it round too, which is how a made a custom pre-filter for my bulky Penguin 200 HOB intake

i kept getting made at my hanging filter it kept getting clogged. every other day i had to uncloge it. i switched to the dual sponge filter. never looked back i got a 15 gallon guppy tank so easy to clean. once every 2 weeks i squeeze out one of sponges and do not touch the other rotate like that.

To cut sponge, press as thin as possible with clamp or something ,heat up a empty 9mm and melt it through???? Might work

The opposite is true. The deeper they are, and the taller the tube, the faster the bubbles go and the faster the flow.
There are also versions with pumps built in so no air needed.

The major con is suction cup failure...always. They need a magnet connection like sicce has on their circulation pumps. Then, it would be great.

I've had the dual sponge/biomedia one in my Amazon list for a few months now, but have been hesitant to pull the trigger due to the sponge coarseness.

I have your answer! Connect a regular siphon to a garden hose and put this pump at the end of it! It’s called a transfer pump. You will LOTS OF SUCTION. amzn.to/2Vs6k5u
