Well done. Ive been working 25 years in activities/ lifestyle. You hit the nail on the head when you stated...the challenge has been the staff. The problem isn't the residents. Ive always said the more we normalise the environment and routine etc..the more settled people feel within their environment and self. Having something to do, someone to do it with and something to look forward to has always been my philosophy. However Montessori is seen by many as childish and ....is extremely misunderstood. Hopefully more organisations will adopt this method...but everyone needs to on board, the staff, families, management etc etc. ☺️thanks for sharing! Oh and my pet hate in aged care...it's half an hr to morning tea you have to wait for a coffee!!!!

This is all good..wonderful..but......here comes the but......I have patients that can’t function this well...they can’t remember to eat..actually not know what food is...a fork...have lost the ability to swallow..dementia is not only a memory loss condition..they can’t walk...wheel their own wheelchair...don’t know that they have a bowel movement...and these people need activities to distract them through the day also...are you handling these very progressed dementia patient? If so can you show videos on how you handle them

Yes, this is happening in the U.S. In Portland, Oregon, there is a Montessori program in an assisted living facility. Though this isn't the exact program that is presented in this U tube film, it has some similarities and should be interesting to those who are inspired by this program in Australia. I would love to talk to anyone about it and share the information about the program. We started this program in 1998 and it is still going today. Goes to show you that Montessori works for everyone!!

Montessori principles - super! Like idea of helping, but what about health rules of using gloves and changing them. Will health rules allow them to set tables, peel vegetables or folding clothes (but they could do their own) ?

Does anyone know if this is happening in the USA? This is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. Thank you to all those involved who have put this together.
