I can't tell you how much I enjoyed your video Mariel, down to Earth, practical, and real, so unpretentious. Too many teachers decorate a space and make it more about themselves than anyone else. I am a mature teacher and this is my first year of teaching (as a homeroom teacher too), after a 25 year break from Education. It's going to be fun, thank you so much for the fantastic resources.
Oh my goodness you are too kind! I really appreciate your feedback and compliments. My colleague, Leanna, gets full credit for making the space reflect the student community. She’s stellar at it. That’s so cool that you’re returning to the classroom! You’re going to love it. In some ways things have really changed, but also, kids are kids. Welcome back! 🌻💕
"I'm your teacher and welcome to 5th grade," HAHA 😂!!! THANKS for your opening remarks. I love to look at classroom setup and themes, but they usually make me feel inferior. You're so right...I don't need to be so concerned about this, as I don't have the time or a bagful of money to make this happen. ❤
Haha! Pretty sure my theme one year was, “I just got hired 3 days ago…Good luck everyone!” But seriously, I’ve never had a student say they wished their teacher had a more cohesive bulletin board theme. 😆
I will begin my 32nd year as an elementary school teacher, and I remember having only $71 to my name back in 1992. It is true to have procedures and routines in place during the first two weeks of school and to review them consistently. My teachers in elementary school never had classroom themes, and I never felt as if I were deprived or had my self-esteem destroyed. Yes, they cared about their students and made sure that each one felt safe and welcomed in their classrooms. If some teachers feel the need to have a theme, then that is their choice. Thank you for your video presentation. Take care.
That’s so funny - my husband and I were just talking about how our teachers never had themed classrooms. I think themes can be great if you have the time and resources, but that’s just not the case for most of us. Congrats on entering your 32nd year! That’s quite the accomplishment. 🎉👏🏻
Oh my goodness that is so kind of you to say! Thank you so much. 🥰 Please let me know if there are any topics you’re interested in. I’d love to be able to assist more first year teachers as I received a ton of help my first year teaching.
I just stumbled on your channel last night when I saw your 43 File system video and subscribed. LOVE all the videos I’ve seen so far. So helpful, and very much “my style.” As you pointed out in this video- I have nothing against the themed “Pinterest” classrooms, but that’s not me. I’m in my 6th year, but started teaching a little later. As a male elementary teacher too, I didn’t feel like most of the TpT stuff and bulletin boards I saw were for me. Also interesting to hear you moved from 2nd up to 5th! I finished up my 5th year of 5th and am moving down to 2nd this year 😁
Thank you so much for the compliments and feedback - it’s very kind of you! I actually taught middle school for many years and then moved to 2nd grade for a few years. You’re going to love it! The kids are just so endearing. But be ready for the lost teeth. Soooo many lost teeth. 🦷😆
I’m in a similar situation and luckily I’m fortunate enough that my district offers translation services for a handful of languages. It’s a huge help for me in communicating with our multilingual families!

Haha! Thank you! It really is my favorite theme. 😉
My last year teaching, so my theme will be eclectic.

I don't get my class list until the day before!
Whaaaaat?! How do they expect you to get anything prepped? I’m so sorry. Boooo 👎🏻☹️
I'm in the same boat. One year, I didn't get my list until the first day of school!🤷♀
@@janean1251 What?! That’s madness. 🤪
9/10 of my families speak Spanish and I don't. Fun, fun, fun.
