A useful tip when preparing those small clams. In Jamaica we called them cockles.
After you catch them, keep them in a container of water for a couple of hours or a day if necessary. What will happen is they will spit out a lot of sand that they have been storing, that way you will have a more cleaner soup with less or no sand in it.

I think slowly adding time to your previous experience is probably the safest method on any return adventure. I'd say go a full week next time, and that works out for you, tack on more day for the next trip. You don't want to throw yourself into a situation where it's TRULY a do-or-die situation until you're 100% it's not going to be a completely miserable experience. Health and Safety always first.

The trick to netting is slow slow slow like it's debris and then fast when it's already in the net. I used to go netting a lot for shrimp, crabs etc. and I practically never failed once. If you look at how many fish and bottom feeders hunt, that's basically it.
Edit: In fact I think I managed to pin a small snapper like this once that was bigger than the net.

I always say this to survival channels, but do take a failure pack with you. Just in case you can't do it for some reason, you can use that pack and save yourself. Pack food, water and medicine in there and take one of those gps things that allows rescuers to know where you are if things go bad. Good luck with more videos.

Great stuff, I'm a big fan of survival videos like this and I'd be happy to see you go back for longer.
Perhaps you could try showing us different things. Different ways of getting fresh water, of fishing, perhaps of getting about. Make yourself fishing gear from junk and stuff, perhaps a fish spike or shell hook? show us around the jungle, different shelters in different locations. Other ways of going about fire lightining and cooking. Just some random ideas you've probably thought of before.
I wish I had the confidence (and money) to do such a thing, it'd be an experience worth doing but I don't think I'd want to do it on hard mode like this, bringing very little with me.

How much money is enough friend? careful not to end up like many who devoted decades after decades to hoarding money; that when they finally tried to make a move (expedition) the body said,
IT'S TOO LATE FOR YOU BUSTER! we have Dialysis to do several times a week, don't forget our inflammation or Diabetes ,,,.
I got out of doge as soon as I could and don't miss the madness of Big city for one second. I've setup shop between Honduras and Nicaragua and live off the land as much as possible.
Grow my Burro bananas, bell peppers, lemons, tomatoes, Mangos, Avocadoes; catch my own fish and land crabs,,,.
I invite you to join us after seeing your kids off to college. Try not to stay married to the pursuit of stuffs (houses, jewelries, cars,,) which you won't take with you on that final trip.
The experience of expeditions on the other hand, Nourish the Soul in my opinion.
Don't end up like workaholic Steve who amassed millions!
learning of his passing, friend A rushed to the funeral and asked the other friends,
"What did Steve leave behind"? HE LEFT IT ALL!! came the response.

Wonderful and inspiring video! Your stay was amazing. I learned a lot. Thank you. The only thing I would have done upon first arrival would be to make a couple of pronged spears, both for fishing and protection, not knowing what might be living on the island. Looking forward to future adventures! (Larry, Colorado, USA)

14:35 What u caught is called a porcupinefish (we call it a hedgehog) and they are different from pufferfish and not poisonous like them. You csn actually eat porcupinefish, which we do here in the Caribbean. We normally boil it for a while n remove the spikes which u have to be careful for and eat the meat after cleaning. A really nice eating fish

Use sticks for spoon. Find a clam shell for scraping coconut n for spoon.. hibiscus tree is a good source of line. Wait until low tide n go fishing in sand. Banana stem can make water all the time.

Great video man! Love the dedication to only using what you have and find. Too many "survival" people tend to have clips of them catching a monster fish but you can clearly tell its already dead. Stay for a full week or two!

Loved this series Dustin. I think you did an excellent job of cooking up the fish and pippies (clams), the broth would have been very nourishing. I would have added a couple of crabs too. Can’t wait to see more videos 💜💜🇦🇺

Good vid, there are black tips there but rarely come in past the rocks to the shallows. The biggest worry should be jellies, box jellies especially. The sea urchins you can eat too, we used to collect and eat them from the beach you landed at when you got back. Not too many big fish closer the shore there but the small groupers and snappers are delicious. Nice to see survival vids in the gulf islands!

Also the big you found was a Cicada, it’s the same one making the loud noise from the start of the video! You can eat them and people do but I think they taste nasty.

When I grew up in PNG we used to put a long strong stick in the sand to peel the husks off the coconuts and used the nut from cutlery , crookery to holding charcoal, just saying, well done to your show
