    Wow, that space looks so nice now with those beautiful #vegega raised beds. I just installed my first Vegega raised bed too, and I put in a trellis! It's blue and looks beautiful! I too filled it up with good soil rather than the Hügelkultur that many people use. More real soil means better plants IMO!! Great video, thanks for sharing!

      The #vegega beds have really transformed this space - we will be sharing more about the raised bed trials we’ve been doing soon too 💚 thanks for watching/commenting - happy growing ✌️🌿

    Thank you..I’ve seen these in some US videos..glad you showed how quick and easy it was. I’ve been looking to make a raised bed as I’m quite arthritic..the big toad thing was funny😊

      Hi Marian, Glad you enjoyed the video ... and the toad!! 😆 Raised beds can defo create easier access and make gardening more accessible for sure and I feel this style of bed will last a lot longer than wooden ones. We actually timed making the 3rd bed and it took us 30 mins exactly, with the both of us doing it. They really are a very simple construction process, I would have been fine doing them on my own even! I did mean to mention the timing at the end of the vid, but completely forgot in the excitment of getting it all finished!! 😃

    Thanks for the video, those raised beds are quite a challenge. In your vegetable garden you are afraid to cultivate just a few centimeters. Now you fill 40 cm with all kinds of material without inoculating the beds with soil life from the garden. No capular effect from the soil, so give it plenty of water in the near future. I really didn't expect you to participate in this fashion phenomenon.

      Hi Jan- Boer, I am absolutely up for making growing food as fasionable AND accessable to as many people as possible, so that more people grow fresh food for themselves and get to enjoy it, which in turn will benefit the planet as a whole 😍 exploration and experimentation is all part of the journey - we put a lot of thought into things like this and only do for good reason. Protecting our crops and relating to/helping others who have limited growing space is important to us. The beds are in contact with the native soil below so soil life can migrate, as well as being innocutated with our homemade compost 💚 it will be interesting to see how much watering they need ... we will find out ✌️🌿

    You two are a pleasure to learn from. So much energy and enthusiasm 👌 Question if I may from a pair of novice gardeners. Why did you not pack the lower part of the raised bed out with bricks/large stones, to save on compost/soil? Always learning 👍

    • @freedomforestlife
      @freedomforestlife  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, yes thats a great idea, we did debate doing Hugel-Kultur, which is where you lay logs etc in the base layer. Where we are using 2 of them for sweet potatoes this year though we decided to just do soil - thinking on it now though we could of done Hugels in the one we will not be growing root crops in and saved some materials! 🤣 We are a little spoiled in that we have a green waste site very nearby and have access to unlimted compost and topsoil very cheaply, so we just went for it... still a lot of lugging though !! If we do any more, will defo do Hugels to lighten the load - absolutely still learning here too 👍 Thanks for watching and for you lovely comment and great suggestions too 💚✌️🌿

    The raised beds look amazing, but they're not a cheap purchase. They look easy to put together so they'd be perfect for someone like myself with poor health.
    We've grown carrots higher up, and it's been successful.

    • @freedomforestlife
      @freedomforestlife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi again Jacqui - I would say they are well worth the investment if you are looking to install raised beds. Timber is very expenses these days and in our experience, even heavy timbers rot out in just a few years. These are indeed quite easy to put together and we feel pretty sure they will last a good few years. There is a link and discount code in our video description that might help.
      I think you are right about the carrots - I would like to go another step higher with them next year ... have a few ideas to play with 😃 Appreciate you watching and commenting 🙏✌️🌿

    I'm surprised you didn't use the Hugel-Kultur method, would have saved you a bit of earth/compost and meant you wouldn't have to water quite so much. Are these the same as the Birdies bed used by Mark at Self Sufficient Me?

    • @freedomforestlife
      @freedomforestlife  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Will, we did consider doing Hugel's - As we are going to be growing root crops and tubers in 3 out of 4 beds this year, we decided not to this time. Also we are very fortunate to have access to unlimited compost and topsoil from a green waste site very nearby, very cheaply, so we decided to fully fill them this time, if we add any more ever, we will defo try Hugel-kultur. The seems pretty much the same as the Birdie Beds - Love Self Sufficient me 💚✌️🌿

      @@karlp4222 I'm sorry you feel this way. Its a real shame that you can not see the bigger picture that we are actually doing this to, one, find and share ways to protect our crops from pest long term, without having to use chemicals and poisons and 2, help encourage and demostrate what people could be growing themselves in an average garden set up. We put a HUGE amount of our time and effort into our TH-cam videos, for very very little return and we do this willingly and passionately with the desire to encourage and inspire others 🙏
