i cannot fathom why you would want to sign to the big labels when music is about being creative not a puppet for a big corporation, you should have full creative control by definition or you are not an artist.
I think it’s a question of impact. Depending on an artists goals it might be helpful to sign a single or two album deal with a major to get the machine exposure. There aren’t really any wrong answers when the artist is informed of their rights, options and opportunities🙏
