    I was initiated into Transcendental Meditation many years ago, and I "paid" for my initiation as everybody else did. I can attest that it was the best thing I ever did and it completely changed my life and set me free. The fee that is charged is to maintain the structure so that everyone who wants to learn TM can do so. I am very familiar with the organization and have never known any TM teacher who became wealthy from teaching. I suggest - set aside the skepticism, and learn the technique. You'll be glad you did.

    I'm a long term TM practitioner. Used to see Roth hanging out at the TM center in Westwood near UCLA in the early 70's. I recommend TM but for those desiring something for free, such as the experience of "Transcendence", no problem. Access "Mahamritunjaya mantra - Sacred Sounds Choir", and also "Om Namah Shivaya - Shivananda Adi". Listen to each for 5 min per day for at least 2 weeks and you may "Transcend", but the first experience (Samadhi) may only last a split second. The time immersed in Samadhi lengthens with more practice. Enjoy the Bliss!

    I've had this same exact thought for sometime now. "University of Peace" sounds like a fantastic idea!!! We should also implement this practice on a national level in all schools, not just in elementary schools. Especially in high density neighborhoods where people are constantly dealing with fluctuating energy of themselves and others with no healthy way to process them.

      on youtube do a search on "Free Transcendental Meditation tutorial" There are people who are posting on this. I have paid the money to learn TM, and what they are sharing is what I received for payment. I have paid for hypnotherapy, too, and feel what I received for my payment is fair for the value. But I also feel like this high cost does prevent people in need from having access. We tend to value things according to the sacrifice it cost us. I believe some of the money goes towards the David Lynch Foundation, which is bringing TM to at risk children schools all over the planet, so you can feel good about supporting that. And there is something great about being taught one on one and in person and in a group with valuable feedback from other people. So those are all things you get when you pay. But for ;the technique alone, you can find it on the internet and I'm sure in books, etc. Don't let the money be the obstacle.

    Hi Gabby and Bob! There are SO many methods of meditation, and I tried to stick to one method but have actually found doing a different method every other day during my morning session to be more interesting to me as I get bored quite easily. I started off with Vipassana, now doing guided meditations, binaurals and isochronic tones, a little bit of tapping. I now want to try transcendental meditation as it is similar to a method I started doing, by myself. Many teachers say you should choose one method and stick to it. I can't decide which one to use as they have all had positive effects on me in some way. What is your viewpoint in mixing meditation methods? Is it dangerous? How do you chose?

  • @Amyjo_lovesmusic

    I have been interested in TM for along time. The thing holding me back, like so many others, is the cost. Bob said it is ok to be a skeptic, but as a skeptic it is hard to spend almost a thousand hard earned dollars on something I am skeptical about. It may be totally worth it, and sounds like it is, but that is a lot of money. I know that there are scholarships, but I would not qualify. It is just so frustrating.

    • @Amyjo_lovesmusic
      @Amyjo_lovesmusic 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I understand the cost, but even at $100 a month for a year or how ever you break it down. To spend $1000 on something you are skeptical about is still a of money any way you slice it. Sure celebrities say it is so wonderful, but they say that about a lot of things that maybe aren't so great. I guess I have been burned too many times with great promises, little delivered and wasted money.

    • @Amyjo_lovesmusic
      @Amyjo_lovesmusic 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks Isabella! I appreciate your story. There seems to be some secrecy that surround TM that seems kind of shady to me. I can't seem to find a lot of real information about it, you know. The high cost is a turn off also. I understand the teachers need to be paid and all. I am sorry you spent so much and didn't get the help you were looking for. I suppose if someone I knew and trusted has done it I might feel better about it. Celebrity endorsements of it do nothing for me, except make me curious, but that curiosity isn't strong enough to get me to part with that much cash.

      Amy Jo Hey Amy! Don't mean to creep, but felt super compelled to reply to your comment. I watched this video when Gabby published it at the beginning of the year. I felt so intrigued I emailed Bob and found out there was a meditation teacher in my area. I emailed her and the next day attended a free intro. I signed up (paying the student rate of $655). It has changed my life profoundly in so many ways. I feel very much on my path and supported by nature. The money was hard for me to part with, like really hard. But I've never regretted it. Then last week, I check my bank acct balance there was $655 extra dollars in there. No joke. I was reassessed on my taxes last year and the government deposited exactly $655 in my bank! Don't let money stress you out. If you feel pulled by this, answer the call and TRUST the universe will support your decision.

    can't question the amazing benefits people get from this practice, but it has become a business. spirituality for sale, commercialized mantras? there is something elitist and dubious about it...simple chants that are "free" have the same effect. om mani padme hum, for example. if they really wanted to share and spread this amazing message that meditation can change lives, why charge so much for it?!

    • @ewartmckinley2977
      @ewartmckinley2977 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sympathize but if you look into it, you'll find it's not a really a business at all because nobody makes any money on it. Purely nonprofit. All the money goes to help more people learn, especially people who can't afford it. If it were a business there wouldn't be a lifetime of free follow-up and ongoing classes at no charge.

    • @asikshari
      @asikshari 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      thanks for your reply, ewart. but if the goal is to spread this message and help people learn , then why set the price so high?! only someone who lives a comfortable life and has no problems with money could come up with that. i cannot imagine a regular person with a regular job being able to afford to pay over a thousand for some secret mantra...a mantra that's probably plucked out of widely available vedic scriptures anyway. this is a very western capitalist way of approaching things - taunt people with a promise of transformation, lure them with words like "personalized", "exclusive", "special", "secret" to make them feel like they're entering some privileged circle, and then put a hefty price tag on it. it's a very effective approach but it's hardly a new concept, which (if history teaches us anything) really does warrant a little bit of suspicion. if people choose to pay for support or further training later on, that's fine. but mantras should not be bought or sold. it somehow pollutes the whole idea of transcendence and meditation and makes TM another brand name in this ever-growing world of "spiritual" industry. and it's a shame, because chanting and meditation are really amazing transformative practices.

    I went to an introductory session on TM last year. They told me that the program costs about $1200. This was far out of my range. It was mentioned that they had scholarships available. I was on their mailing list but they never reached out again to me personally, to ask if I needed a scholarship. I felt a bit reluctant to ask for one, I admit. I did get an email telling me there was a discount and that it was down to $700. I thought you were into Sat Nam/kundalini yoga...Not doing that anymore or is this just an addition. I have nothing against TM but I do feel that it's a bit steep in price for the average person.

    • @izabelaR
      @izabelaR 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you overly anxious when you're excited? Did something negative happen the first time you got excited and from then on you expected this? Do you feel like it's similar to jinxing something, that if you're too happy/excited something bad must happen? Perhaps deep down you don't believe you deserve to be happy?
      Or are you in a manic high excited and doing more unusual crazy things therefore something negative happens?
      Maybe just a few questions to ask yourself. Sorry if I couldn't be of any more help.

    • @nature10879
      @nature10879 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      izabelaR
      No I do not expect this or nothing negative happens and then I expect this. I am not saying my life is low low and bad things happening to me. All I was saying sometimes excitement brings in negative things, don't have to be big, little things that can sometimes irritate me. I honestly do belief I deserve to be happy, no doubt about that. I don't do crazy things I am just a normal guy, probably one of the nicest person you'll ever meet. I think excitment flows energy real fast, From my understanding and I could be wrong. I have seen people get excited and suddenly hit something,fall and hurt themselves or something hit them..or someone gets excited while driving then suddenly they get a traffic ticket or vise verse when someone gets really really pissed...I think staying calm and relaxing works best for me. Excitement/over excitement about anything has some cause to accelerate instantaneous manifestations. Thanks for your input.

      TM is for those who want to think for themselves, sift thru misinformation & discover what's real & life supporting. There's negativity in the world and perhaps there will always be, but there's a part of you deep inside where there's calm, peace and no negativity-and that's your true inner self. TM is an effortless way to be in that level of awareness. I've been excited about TM for years and I've also heard all the misunderstandings, which I see as based on lack of experience of what the technique is and how it works, how truthful, simple and unique it is.

    What holds me back from learning TM is not the money, but the fact that it's a religion based meditation... the mantras they are using as far as I know are the names of the gods.. unlike Vipassana when there is no any belief in it, just pure self observation, plus I don't like the idea of repeating a mantra.. I don't know why but I don't feel it as a natural way to meditate.. perhaps because I was a vipassana student which holds a different View about mantras XD

    Things like that shouldn't be do expensive. Many profit from such things knowing it's not widely used nor is it covered by insurance..its not fair

    Why do you have to pay to learn TM?

    • @zodiacbluesbaby
      @zodiacbluesbaby 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cindy Litton You pay a one-time-only fee because TM teachers are professionals and some money goes into programs to teach people for free.

    • @benj1008

      You pay for personal instruction by a well trained teacher who will make sure you practice successfully so you get the full benefit, also the long term because you get free lifetime followup sessions.
      You can't learn TM from a book or video because everyone is different and learns at their own pace -- that's why having a TM teacher is essential.

    TM is a very old and simple technique. It is more effective and faster than other types other meditations like Vipassana and mindfulness. No doubt the other are good too but with the lifestyle nowadays, they are difficult to practice. TM could be done at any moment but intially one has to sit down and practice.
    Some people , as always, has made a profit and business out of it. A simple think as accessible to everyone on this planet as breath and water, TM is made into money making machine. It's like taxing air and water.
    Why would you pay and stress yourself out financially learning a thing or a technique which is so simple?
    People who say mantra meditation and transcendental meditation are different, actually don't know about mantra science.
    Actually it doesn't matter if a mantra has a meaning or not. Actually every mantra has a meaning. It's a different thing if you don't know about it. Sometimes it is good to know the meaning of the mantra and sometimes not.
    But the mantras which are really helpful and important have beautiful meanings.
    Skeptic persons can also be profited from it and they don't need to know the meaning but they need to know one thing, "The mantra should not be a man made mantra. Mantras contain spiritual sounds and are not man-made. With man-made mantras like "I am confident, I am in control.." they just give you psychological benefits but not take you deep and transcend your consciousness.
    I don't know if there are much videos on teaching transcendental meditation. Everyone can learn a TM by watching a video or watching other people do it. But what you will lack is the mantra.
    Understanding mantra and picking a mantra just right for you is the difficult thing and requires a teacher. Techinque is only a child's play but getting the mastery of the mind isn't.
    I would recommend; "choose a mantra you like (not man-made affirmations). Research for it. Sit down in a comfortable posture, close your eyes, and start chanting the mantra and focussing on it. When other thought comes and your mind wanders, come back to mantra. Everything other will fall into place itself.

    Gabrielle, I really do admire your work and totally agree with your message, you are a true light worker. But I do not understand at all why you promote TM, if you dig a little bit deeper, they are considered to be a sect!

    This is the 4th video I've watched with bob Roth TRYING to understand HOW to USE transcendental meditation but all I get is this ocean analogy it's so annoying! Not everyone is the same. We all learn and absorb information differently. change up your interview and describe it differently each time. I still feel this is the same as meditation. We know meditation reduces stress but your stressing me out
