I didn't think that The Witch was too long, but rather a very slow burn that kept my interest as it builds into a truly bonkers story. This film is fantastic and the patience is worth it.
I'm gonna pickup both of these at some point. I'm a big fan of Italian horror and gothic horror is always comforting for me in October. Very curious to hear what you think of Beyond the Darkness when you see it. I've watched many wild, disturbing and extreme movies but for some reason Beyond the Darkness was one that made me lose my appetite for several hours. I watched it in the morning and I was going to make breakfast afterwards and I just couldn't do it.
I love Italian Gothic movies, i have seen these. Here in Brazil, Italian movies in general were very popular, specially from 50s to 80s, and were released at the theaters just as much as the US ones. So we always had a lot of classic Italian movies released here from VHS to the current times. As i grew up with my mother being a huge Italian movies fan, as she grew up watching them in theaters, i'mlucky enough to have watched - and collect- many of them. If i list my 10 favorite movies, 7 are Italian. So i'm quite happy when i see the US finally giving Italian movies more attention.
So awesome that you reviewed this set! I've actually only watched The Blancheville Monster so far, and found it to be fair... I liked the look of the disfigured de Blancheville patriarch. It is a bit on the slow side, but I still enjoyed it more than Monster of the Opera (but that's not much of a recommendation) and The Seventh Grave. Looking forward to digging into the rest of the set (not least because of Erika Blanc and the gorgeous young Franco Nero) and revisiting your review once I've finished it.
@@cobwebschannel ...my next foray into the set was Lady Morgan's Vengeance, and I actually thought that was a step down from The Blancheville Monster. Gordon Mitchell and Erika Blanc are both extremely watchable, but the movie as a whole just felt cobbled together from elements that somehow don't quite form a cohesive whole and then the bad guys are suddenly vampire ghosts. And I was like, "why do they get to come back and exact revenge? It's Lady Morgan's vengeance and they were the wrong-doers!"

I've had this box set for quite a few months now & still haven't watched them. Tonight's the night. I got into spanish horror a while ago & have a few of them on BR but I think we need to see more releases of some soviet fantasy films. Deaf Crocodile released a few but there are many more that need some love.
Great review! I believe I was the one that I asked you to do a comparison with Danza Macabra but you didn't repsond. Could be wrong. I actually like a LOT better the Danza Macabra artwork and I think that is the one I might be getting based on your recommendation.
Blancheville recently became my favorite horror movie ever. Have watched it at least five times now in the last year. Is your head pointed? If so then shame be upon it. = ) ha ha, JK
It's always such a bummer when the movie doesn't stick the landing. All the great build up/intrigue before to just kinda wander off is just such a let down ha
if 'the witch' is anything like damiano's other films, it will be dialogue heavy. it's a shame it's dumped in this set - no interest in the rest of it.

I see it is on sale for $35 on Arrow's website. Did you watch them yet, and do you think it is worth that price? Saw regular price was around $99.
@@mikeadams8027 Yes. If you can get it for that price I say grab it. The extras are pretty good too, for movies that are a bit obscure like these.
