      I agree, though it is sad that this even needs to be said. It's strange how some people don't even consider this type of thing, whether it's a lack of knowledge and understanding, or simply inconsiderate and plain ignorant. I think care of animals and their welfare, in the wild and in captivity, really should be made a crucial element of education so it increases the awareness of this issue and hopefully could go a long way to preserving animals and their habitats.

    Love the vid! Very helpful. Just wondering what your personal opinion on humidity and tempriture, I have a humidity gage and learned I keep it around 72 to 80% humidity , plus a heat pad to get it up to 90° on one side and about 75 80° in a 10 gallon. Do I need to tweak my setup or how often I mist?

    • @JensensReptiles
      @JensensReptiles  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I'll give you my temps in celcius (use google to convert to Fahrenheit if you need to)
      I've got humidity between 70 and 80%. I water the plants every third day, so there is a humidity peak and drop. I've got a fan on the back of the enclosure for a bit of air flow so there's no stagnant humidity.
      Temperature wise, I keep the warm side at 28°c, using a reptile radiator, and the cooler end is around 24°c

    • @JensensReptiles
      @JensensReptiles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you :)
      One bit of advice, is to monitor your humidity carefully. A ceramic will dry out the air and ground in minutes so you may need to install a humidifier or switch the heat source.
      But for now, put the probe directly below the heat and you can put the thermometer probe there too. Then use a temp gun to spot check surface temps through. Adjust your stat depending on your temp range :)

    What kind of 'clean up crews' are these? Cause I am planning of making my ball python enclosure fully bioactive, as he likes to put his poopies in areas where I cannot reach it that easily, in which case I have to clean up the entire enclosure and that's not very handy.

    • @JensensReptiles
      @JensensReptiles  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should definitely still removed any poop from the enclosure. Your clean up crew will take days on end to deal with a royal python poop.
      But you can use Isopods and springtails to help keep any remnants that you missed at bay!

    My husband and I are considering trying for the scorpion habitat. I've been watching a lot of videos and there seems to be quite a lot of inconsistency on what to feed and how often to feed scorpions. In addition, I would be interested in housing more than one scorpion however I can't find how much space they need per scorpion. Are you able to house multiple scorpions and still have them happy?

    • @JensensReptiles
      @JensensReptiles  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions! My setup is bioactive, so Zoidy has bugs available to eat whenever he wants. Scorpions don’t tend to over eat, but we do offer him some extra food every 3-4 weeks or so. He’s an Asian forest scorpion, so there are plenty of bugs running around where he comes from. If you get a desert scorpion you can expect to feed a little less.
      And for cohabitation, it really depends on the species. For Asian forest scorps, they can be kept together as long as there’s enough space and food. My setup could house one more if I wanted to.

    old comment, but do you know the measurements of that enclosure? What measurements would you use for a full grown adult scorpion?

    • @JensensReptiles
      @JensensReptiles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The enclosure is 90x45x45cm. It’s a good size for an Asian forest scorpion, although it’s likely he’d be just as content in a 60x45x45 too.

      Plants really have nothing to do with mites. If you have a nice bio active enclosure, you won’t have a mite problem though, because the rest of your clean up crew will take care of anything like that for you

    My house is 69-72 degrees and I’m worried about the heat level for my asian Forrest. It’s at 85-90 right now with uses of a heat lamp and mat. Should I use both? It’s in a ten gallon

    • @JensensReptiles
      @JensensReptiles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I prefer to avoid heat mats for animals that burrow (and in general), they make no sense. You might need a different overhead heat source to achieve the temps you need. What are the dimensions of the enclosure and what’s it made of?

      10 gallon is the volume, do you have the measurements of the height depth and length? You can use ceramic heaters or a higher wattage bulb if you’re not reaching your temps though :)

      UV light can indeed damage a scorpions exoskeleton and cause them a lot of stress. I use an LED black light (no UV) for occasional viewing. It’s on for a maximum of 5 minutes

      Sources of clean up crew totally depend on where you live. But most good reptile shops will sell them.

      Nope, you need heat from above to replicate a natural environment, especially if you’re using live plants. Check out the Arcadia deep heat projector. That may do the job happily
