Xavier I am glad you enjoyed your surprise. Your mud man seems to not understand your true brilliance in bringing people together. That is okay though, because the rest of this community does. Great work with your Redwoods. They really thrived over this past year. Mine has started budding out, but I have not seen any roots shooting through the bottom yet. Thank you for sharing!
oh its down to 5 now? he told me the 6 in 6! I ordered my root hook yesterday from him. He's one of the good ones in the community, maybe even one of the best. Those cuttings are doing great! Your deciduous conifers are so unique. I have clearly been missing out! I need to dive in and catch up on your prior content.
My goodness that is what I call well rooted :-O One of my favourite trees so will defiantly try some cuttings rather than seeds. Thank you for all the tips in working with these trees.
Ah, hello Dawn! I'm not surprised at how much that seedling has grown Xavier. They seem to grow like weeds. Mine doubled in height and (nearly) thickness last year. Mine was on the ground too and had the roots escape out of the bottom. Great video mate. You've got some lovely dawn redwoods. Lots of ideas and inspiration for me 🌳💪
Unbelievable amount of roots on that larch Xav useful to know mate, I have always wanted a dawn redwood those 3 you are working on are nice trees mature look about them just need more branching the last one you worked on is turning into a great tree just needs a bit of wiring to improve the branch layout. All the best with them.
I love the Metasequoia glyptostroboides 🤓❤️ Meanwhile in Salzburg I‘ve been unpatient again and had a look at my last autumns cuttings. No roots. I hope I didn’t kill them. So thanks Xavier, now I know, that I have to wait for one year. Can’t wait, the first flush to harden to take an other try. 😘🙋♀️
Some years it works and some it doesnt. I wont check any of my hardwood cuttings for roots until the late autumn. They are all in leaf or flower but than can be so misleading too. Just keep on trying and you will have success. God Bless Martina
I do like a Dawn Redwood. I only have one and it is a large formal upright style, it's great once the leaves start pushing. The last one you showed has a bar branch about one third the way from the top, could you remove the branch on the inside of the curve or would it leave too much of a gap? Amazing to see the roots on the cutting, i have never tried cuttings from mine.
The two smaller ones were probably imported as 8-10 year old specimens in 2017. the bigger one was probably nearer 20 years in 2017. Its all guess work really Andy.
It was probably a molar clay, grit, vermiculite and compost mix. These were potted up before my mst recent soil mix experiment with zeolite and pumice :)
@Xavier Martinez - Expressions of Grace Bonsai I have not gone to a greenhouse for some time. Money is my restriction. I have no spare money. I love to go walking through the greenhouses. I always find something I want. Ha! Right now it's home necessities only. So I just don't go anywhere.
YEZZZZ! Bring out your DRWs!!!
Cheers Candice - I will be interested to see what you think of my solution for all those rooted cuttings in Part Two on Thursday :)

My pleasure matt - and thanks again for the rake.

At the rate you produce videos i will be surprised if you get an opportunity :)
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat I never give up! It’s just another challenge!

No worries Jules - they seem to root pretty easily off cuttings about now.

Definitely the way to go for cuttings.
Some nice trees there, Xav!

Kennet
Thanks kennet - I just need them to get some vigour this year.
Excellent plan. Hope to see it in its deadwood stage 😉
Did i talk about doing deadwood in this one?
I'm really liking that last tree mate, and I agree, that weird straight branch on the first one has to go!
Totally, but after last year's heat I just want these to get a year of free growth to try an dput on some more vigour and branching options.
Well done xavier keep up the good work mate thanks
Thanks as always Phillip.
Lovely to see the Dawn Redwoods. Sadly mine didn't make it 😢 but your trees look great. Roll on spring and summer
I am already getting behind on my repots - time is starting to fly.

They really got put back a bit after last years heat but hopefully you will enjoy seeing what I do with the cuttings on Thursday :)

Those aren’t roots. They are dreadlocks!!!
Great gift from Matt, he’s a great guy. 👍
Top tool for sure. I am finding roots do really well under a thin layer of bark for everything in little pots.

I know the branch but it gives me a back for the tree. I shall keep it in mind though...
Will be nice to see them in the summer mate I’ll look forward to it.
How old are they Xavier?

What is the soil you use for those Redwoods?

Great video! Now... To find a dawn Redwood... Cause I need more trees like I need a hole in the head...
The trouble with this hobby is it is impossbile to stop collecting more trees. Nursery's are banned to me at the moment :)
