  • A new Roof Top Tent is always a bit of an unknown...did the freight forwarder take care with the shipment? Is it damaged? Will it fit? How the hell are we going to move it, let alone get it up and on our Rivian R1T's load bars??

Thanks for putting this together. A couple that adventures together stays together longer. Hehe. And it’s always nice to have someone to split the bill with. Hehe. Would like to see a video on the kitchen. Thinking about it but would love it more if it was coated with a black bed liner paint like the new roofnest tents.

The trouble with coatings on the kitchen work surfaces is that it must be food safe, and I doubt bed liner paint is. The wood has a Danish Oil finish, which...smelled quite strong for a couple weeks! Be forwarned folks lol
That being said they do have a version with black end plates if that strikes your fancy, costs a bit more: www.thunderboltadventuresupply.com/cdn/shop/files/DSC_0496.jpg

I love the video! It will be a while before we get an rtt, but we’re getting an r1t delivered next week! One question about this tent: roofnest says it is 60” long but rivian bed length is 54” long I think. How come yours doesn’t look to be overhanging the back by 6”?

54" is the bed length (interior dimension). There's several inches at each end beyond that, both from the thickness of the tailgate and also behind the rear cab glass.

I'm torn between the overland 2 xl and just the standard 2xl. how are you feeling about it? which would you recommend?

The difference seems to primarily be the aluminum shell (extra durable, probably shakes/flexes less in wind), and also has mount rails so you can attach stuff to it (we have our recovery boards on there). This means we DON'T need to mount anything above the cab or tent, which keeps our aerodynamics clean and efficiency up 👌🏻
