One of the best interviews that @ The Dink has done. What impresses me is Zane and Thomas are far more comfortable and paced with their interview. Superb questions for Donald. I've followed pro tennis since the 70's (yes, a boomer) so listening to the transition from pro tennis (finals of US Open mixed?!) to pro PB is fascinating to me. Well done - all 3 of yas!
Good interview. As an avid watcher of streamed pro pb I’m thinking there’s too many tournaments. I’m getting bored of watching some of the top pros who also appear somewhat bored (and fatigued). I think they PPA should nix a bunch of them and increase prize money for the rest so the players have a more “eat what you kill” competitive mindset.
Totally agree. It’s hard as even an avid fan like me to keep up with pro pb. I was watching last weekend’s games but had to abandon that to catch up on this weekend’s. The experience just isn’t as unique if there’s weekly ppa tournaments
What donald young means by stressful is all the hate he gets. He's one of the most teased players on the ATP tour for those who are avid tennis viewers. He's basically the Ben Simmons of tennis but maybe not many pickleball players know this.
Donald Young and Ben Simmons do not equate at all. Ben Simmons is an extremely talented basketball player who doesn't like his sport and can't handle his talent. Donald Young was a tennis prodigy whose success peaked at 16, when he was the world's No 1 junior player. He was under tremendous pressure throughout the tennis world, especially in the US, to continue to succeed, but other players caught up to him as they matured and surpassed his skill level through no fault of his own. The expectations put on him throughout his career were unrealistic. It's amazing he's come out of it as well-adjusted as he has. A better tennis equivalency to Ben Simmons is Nick Kyrgios.
@@barney9997 I'm not talking about their accomplishments. Of course i'm not equating those. But I'm referencing the fan reaction to them as players within their sport. And how trolled and teased they are at their sport. Clear your head when you misconstrue things and need to write a manifesto.
@@shipwreck8847 I can't entirely agree with your premise of equal fan reaction, but it would have helped if you added a bit of context in your original comment, but then again, that would have required at least another sentence. Clear your head? Manifesto? The Ben Simmons of tennis? Good one.
Good interview, Donald. Regarding your project my advice is that you set up video of matches for court level views. The camera angles in most pickleball matches are awful (and not good for the game of tennis either). Viewers are players mainly -- we want to feel like we're on the court so we can appreciate the athleticism and the shot and decision making.
i think you can see why Young did not go higher in tennis. He is a really nice intelligent guy. The guys who go up in tennis have to be driven - most of them.
Tricks. I’ve spent some time between matches bouncing the ball on the edge guard/side of the paddle. There’s a trick where you can roll the ball from one side over the edge to the other side without breaking contact with the ball. Some wall drills feel like soccer juggling tricks.
We should just switch to foam balls. I have one of those foam practice balls and the spin is amazing. More spin less dangerous and less noise. Main downside would be the sport being rediculed even more. Oh and the courts would eat through those balls like crazy. 😅

One of the best episodes. Was cool hearing DY’s perspective on the transitions. Seems humble and kind.
Donald Young was very interesting to listen to. Very likable!
Donald Young might be the most likable player in the game

DY is so smooth out there, love watching him play. Seems like a great guy too

Thomas we need to get another backyard match together it’s been too long since I edited a blooper reel for you
The Prokennex Black Ace hits harder than the Engage paddles and it's been around a while
