Honda CB350 H'ness | How good is it? | Test Ride & Review

  • Hello!
    A British style long-stroke single from Japan designed to take on the Indian legend!
    The CB350 was launched to much fanfare and hype and triggered speculation whether this model can break the iron grip that Royal Enfield has on the 350 - 650cc segment.
    So, I took this motorcycle out on a 200 km ride on varying terrains to find out, one, how good this motorcycle actually is and two, if it can threaten the dominance of Royal Enfield.
    Post the detailed ride, I am not fully convinced that the CB can or needs to be bothered about Royal Enfield. This motorcycle has some great features and performs very well and can attract riders who will love it for what it is.
    The engine is refined, smooth and has good top end grunt though it lacks bottom end performance. But, knowing this engine characteristics helps the rider adapt and ride the motorcycle they way it needs to be ridden to extract the best from it. The suspension performance is 5 star and excels in bad roads.
    The bottom line is, this is no Royal Enfield. This is a simple, clean, smooth, reliable Honda that goes about its work like a clock. No fuss, no drama.
    Hope you like what you see and hear and hope it helps you in making your buying choice. Cheers!

    Traction control is a very good feature, you get it only in high end bikes, take it an airbag, you don't crash everyday but one day it will save you, same goes for traction control.
    Gear lever is long because if you are a sporty rider then you might use your toe to shift up and down.
    Good informative video👍🏻👍🏻

    Well summed up Bosskey, this gearing should have been in the RS variant. I did take a test ride of the H'ness last week and instantly felt it to be more refined and also had a better thump than the Meteor. But the real issue was the need to revv it up. Meteor with a lesser torque output had a lot more low end grunt. Honda could have done a little change to the gearing especially considering most buyers in this segment would want to have a relaxed ride most of the time and would want to shift up early. The speeds I could do in my 15yr Thunderbird or even in my 155 Gixxer, in 5th gear, I could barely even slot into 4th in the H'ness.

    • @bigbearbangalore
      @bigbearbangalore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. This lack of low end grunt is a miss by Honda. Anyway, let's see if Honda can address this in upcoming revisions and upgrades. Cheers!

    Talking about minimum speed limit for the top two gears, they doesn't sell it on any Honda showrooms, these are meant for long rides and for those it is sold only at Bigwing showrooms. For users who need Commuter bikes they have plenty bikes other normal showrooms.
    NB:- This is a premium bike with long stroke and high gear ratio. Keep that in mind before buying.

    • @bigbearbangalore
      @bigbearbangalore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi! Both are good motorcycles and will serve you well. Personally i prefer the seating posture of the CB since am not a fan of the cruiser seating angle of the Meteor. For lazy riding the cruiser Meteor fits the bill better. The point to note is that after a few 1000 kms there is a tendency of wanting to push a little more and enjoy riding briskly and the CB rewards aggressive riding. So, it's a choice of what you need.
      I suggest that you take both for an extended test ride and then choose. Cheers!

    Rightly said that this is not a lazy motorcycle. From my riding experience of the H'ness, I'd conclude that this is perfect for the city and occasional 100-200km rides. But might prove to be insufficient for a longer journey due to its lack of wind protection which I find is a core reason for causing fatigue. But great value for money.

    What I observed while revving it on high gears is, you need to know the sweet spot in its rpm ratio to pull it and it can actually pull it at even 5th gear. I do it with my girl as a pilloon rider, saddle bags and a medium size topbox. The riding ergonomics are the safest i guess. I went to test ride hunter 350 for my girl this Sunday and after riding this, that bike is a pure dissapointment. Honda should probably work on the long gear ratio to make a better riding experience inside the city, but this is an engine that can run till the end of the world I feel.

I ride a short-stroke Honda single, it will pull from low revs in high gear, but not strongly, the bike thrives on revs. I hope i get to try one, sound of an RE but rides like a KTM, its sure to confuse a lot of people. Best of both worlds to some and worst of both to others. Hope it comes the Europe.

    how does it differ from bullet 350 in terms of power delivery specially in 2-3 gears?

    • @bigbearbangalore
      @bigbearbangalore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very different. I wouldn't compare the Bullet to the CB. The power and performance of the CB is from mid range to top while the Bullet is only at the low end and moderate mid range. The CB is much faster and more refined compared to the Bullet. You must ride both to feel them and choose which can give you the kind of joy and satisfaction you seek. Cheers!

    Lovely bike sir,
    But just a small issue which i noticed is after you clock some few thousand kms and when the foot peg rubbers start wearing out you feel a bit more vibration on the foot pegs at low speed not high speed
    Can you suggest any after market foot pegs which are good rubber padded which can significantly reduce vibration on our feet.
    Thank you Sir

    • @bigbearbangalore

      Sir so do you advise me to change the stock foo pegs of my honda hiness as soon as i feel the rubber on top of it starts wearing out
      At lest this can create less vibration and a better riding experience

    • @bigbearbangalore

      If the rubber is worn, replace the rubber. It's provided to minimise the buzz.

    New gen classic 350 vs highness, which is better in your opinion sir ?

    • @bigbearbangalore
      @bigbearbangalore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! They are very close in most parameters except waiting period. I think the CB is available in 2 weeks while the Classic takes about 4 months.
      Ride both and choose which engine character you like because they are quite different in the way the engine performs. The CB needs to be ridden hard and pushed to get the performance from it and to enjoy while the Classic can be ridden lazily and effortlessly but does not have the speed and acceleration of the CB.
      It’s a personal choice. Cheers!

  • @yatrikashish

    As a matter of fact I already have a Classic 500, and now for the last week or so, Ive been riding a CB350, which I recently purchased. When I ride the Honda, there's this sense of safety and reliability that rides with me. Im certain that the clutch cable wont break in the middle of nowhere and each time I press the starter button, the bike bloody will start , both these events have come to pass, the dead starter, and a broken clutch cable...so I know how that feels! In fact Enfield should give a spare clutch cable taped to the service cable right out of the factory....just like so many of us do anyway, spare us a bit of a bother!....and for heavens sake, put that darned kick starter back on, in the Meteor....you arent Honda yet!

    • @bigbearbangalore
      @bigbearbangalore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I feel you and understand you. Royal Enfield is not yet a match for Honda in terms of consistent quality & reliability and peace of mind.
      Having kept a close eye over the last 10-12 years on the premium motorcycle market and having kept my ears open for the latest happenings, it is clear that Royal Enfield has turned the corner with the launch of the Twins and more so with the Meteor. The evidence of this progress is clear in social media. Anyway, while I accept and respect your scepticism, I am convinced that Royal Enfields do not need kick starters anymore :-)
      But, the proof is in the pudding and so only time will tell if this progress is genuine and sustainable. Cheers!
