    No matter how you look at it. He knew it was a dirty hit and still did it. What is worse is arguing about a hit that is viewable and clear.

      Must be why there was no supplemental discipline because no matter how you look at it, you are an idiot just like the refs. Shoulder to shoulder hit, with the head as a SECONDARY point of contact for anyone with a functioning brain. I truly wonder how many people even understand what MAIN POINT OF CONTACT even means. Try actually reading rule 48.1.

    Why is he acting like it was a bad call, you got laid out didn’t like it and hit the first thing you could even tho he had nothing to do with it it was interference and a headshot then act surprised you get a match penalty. What a coward

      i mean the puck was in dellandrea’s feet when he hit him. it’s not really interference, check to the head was legitimate right call

      Smith is mad because of the cheap shot / no call made on him 5 seconds earlier...

    • @m15km
      @m15km 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@rexfordmorgan7552 zero intention to play the puck, and saying it was in his feet is disingenuous at best: it caromed off the board and by a player before hitting his foot. Smith had zero way to know the puck would be in Dellandrea's feet, which means he committed to making the hit while thinking Dellandrea would NOT have the puck. Super dirty and reckless hit.

    • @rexfordmorgan7552
      @rexfordmorgan7552 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ nobody said it wasn’t reckless or with bad intent, just that it wasn’t interference. look up the rule

    • @m15km
      @m15km 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@rexfordmorgan7552 Straight from the rulebook: "A “pick” is the action of a player who checks an opponent who is not in possession of the puck and is unaware of the impending check/hit. [...] When this is done, an interference penalty shall be assessed."
      It's quite literally textbook interference, according to the league's own published rulebook. 🤷‍♂
      The puck bouncing off the boards, over the other player's stick, and deflecting of Dellandrea's feet ≠ him having possession, btw.

  • @nilocblue
    @nilocblue 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +88

    Kept his feet on the ice and leaned into the hit without elevating, that's the good part. The bad part, he was an exposed player in a vulnerable position not having had possession and the first point of contact is the head. For those who don't understand hockey, that's a big no no.

      1. Shoulder to head is DEFINITELY the principal point of contact here, not even close to being anywhere else
      2. Even if it was elbow to chest (which it clearly wasn't), that would make it elbowing which still means it's not at all clean
      3. He didn't touch the puck, or make any effort that suggests he was trying to, it just happened to hit his skate after the previous guy mishandled it. He at no point had or attempted possession, which makes him technically ineligible for a hit. Most refs will let this go if everything else about the hit is clean, but that is clearly not the case on this play.

    *When announcers have never once read the NHL rulebook.* It was NOT interference. This only discusses interference and not 'head hit', so let's just clarify what interference is and isn't.
    Rule 56: Interference
    Possession of the Puck:
    The last player to touch the puck, other than the goalkeeper, shall be considered the player in possession. The player deemed in possession of the puck may be checked legally, provided the check is rendered immediately following his loss of possession.
    Now look at the Rulebook's Glossary Of Terms that defines Puck Possession (page 213).
    The last player to physically touch the puck with his stick or body shall be considered in possession of the puck. (NOTE 1) A player can have possession of the puck without control, but he cannot have control of the puck without possession.
    The puck does NOT need to be touched by a stick and possession does not have to mean control. The puck is redirected by the player's skate, giving him possession.

    I do think the refs could’ve called a penalty just before this on the sharks player (different player than the one injured) for interference on Smith. If they had, this wouldn’t have happened, but that’s no excuse for Smith looking for someone to hit and then doing this.

Them from there it slightly moves towards the head which he cannot control. I guess we will wait to see how the NHL sees it.

    So where was the call and suspension for the head hit on knies? Joke referees make a joke out of the league. To be fair it’s an illegal hit for different reason ie player not having possession of puck which is interference not a head hit, but if that is considered a hit to the head the knies hit earlier in the year should have been as well, but their explanation was even though the head was first point of contact he followed through the body, like wtf are these people smoking, if the head is the initial point of contact it a head shot. It would be nice to see some damn consistency in the way the game is called and the way rules are interpreted. Do better NHL officials

NHL is getting soft with these hits guys. we act like these guys arnt doing nearly 30 mph in some cases, your head is gonna make contact with their body if its a straight on hit. None of the players where neck devices to keep their head from snapping around in a impact like this. The only time your head isnt gonna hit the other player is if they hit you from behind, which in my opinion is way less safe.
